Corn Ice Cream
wow!
i've never heard anyone else talk about corn ice cream.
well, what i tried were sweet corn popsicles in guadalajara.
i LOVED them.
whenever i tell someone about them they get really grossed out!
my mom has even made them and they're really good.
but i've never actually heard of a place that sells them.
have you heard of avocado ice cream or popsicles?
they had those in guadalajara as well, but i was too stuck on the corn ones to try the avocado ones...
:)
Guilty Pleasure
HA!
i was just telling my boyfriend that i used to love mc donald's fries dipped in chocolate milkshake!
mmmm....
so weird, yet so delicious.
don't know if i'd do it now-a-days however...

so, had the cochinita pibil and it was awesome.
the reason why i decided to go with this dish is that the last time i tried it i was 11 years old and my parents took me to guatemala.
it was my first experience with it and i fell in love. i ate it the whole time we were there.
but never saw it again. maybe once or twice somewhere but i can't recall.
i'm 30 now, and finally decided to try it again.
it didn't taste the same as when i had it at 11, but it was quite delicious!
so flavorful and tender.
i loved the tu y yo salad too.
just lettuce tomatoes cheese and cilantro dressing.
it's the dressing i loved the most.
definitely my new authentic favorite restaurant out here.
unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert...
next time!
oh yeah, and the jalapenos stuffed with chicken and served with a tomatillo sauce were awesome too!!!
Boston Hound Seeks L.A. Food Itinerary Advice
i like el cholo. :)
i was only there once for a birthday event.
i got a chimichanga and really liked it.
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
now, were you traumatized for life 'cause of it?
can you not eat tuna or any other fish?

going to Tu y Yo tonight.
i'm excited about it since it seems to be a favorite amongst a few people.
i looked at the menu and i think this is what i'm getting:
for app & salad:
Tostadas de Pollo con Mole Negro
Crispy mini corn tortillas topped with chicken & mole negro.
Tu Y Yo
Lettuce, tomatoes, fresh cheese and cilantro dressing.
(i'm gonna see if they can add avocado)
main course:
Cochinita Pibil ( María Ruz Viuda de Espinosa 1908)
Shredded boneless pork loin, marinated in a sauce made of paprika, orange, garlic onions and spices.
or maybe this one. i can't decide...
Bisteces "Mamá Evelia" (Evelia Gómez Viuda de Guzmán 1930)
Angus chopped tender sirloin sautéed in onion and "tomatillo-chipotle" sauce
i saw alot of cactus stuff.
my mom loves the stuff. i don't.
and has anyone tried any of the grasshopper dishes? YIKES!!!
(i hope this isn't off topic... sorry if it is)

i feel that way about my guacamole as well. :)
i don't make alot of things well, but when it comes to guacamole, i do.
what do you put in yours if you don't mind sharing?
Where to go for Sushi?
is seiyo good?
i always saw people in there, but we never ate there.
we used to go in there to get our booze...
but i haven't heard much about whether it's actually good or not...
Moderately priced Italian for 6 - Friday night downtown
my favorite will always be mother ana's in the north end.
right at the beginning of hanover.
if you do go there, definitely get a salad because their dressing is the best.
the chicken marsala is outstanding as well....

i have also been looking for good mexican places.
my thing is, they have to have refried beans.
let me clarify even further, they have to be PINTO refried beans.
i once ordered a side of refried beans at this place down in the fenway area (forget the name, it's known for it's tacos i guess...) and they gave me black bean refried beans which tasted kinda burnt and gross.
so i've posted on several different boards regarding mexican places, and angela's seems to be most people's favorite.
i still need to get there someday, somehow.
i've also noticed so many places that sound really good, but are outside of boston/cambridge area.
so it'd be a bit hard for me to get to since i don't drive.
i guess if they're THAT good, it'd be worth trying to find my way out to some of those places.
are they T accessible, such as the place in winthrop, waltham, lawrence?
my boyfriend sometimes gets a zip car though, to do errands.
so maybe that's when we could try some of the places.
on one occassion we went to a place called el tapatio, or tapatio's or something in rhode island, and they had the best chimichangas!
have you tried burrito express?
i like them.
(they also have really good fries, funnily enough...)
i also really like andale'. good mole tortas. and they're super huge too!
they have pinto beans, but not refried...
I've never eaten at a "Jack in the Box." How is it?
i doubt i'm the only person in the world that likes them.
just as i'm sure you're not the only person in the world that hates them!
:)
My Confessions
WOW!
those are alot of confessions!
i have a couple that i can think of off the top of my head at the moment (i'm sure if i REALLY took the time to, i'd have hundreds...)
~ i am never completely satisfied with a meal "as is".
when someone cooks for me, or when i'm at a restaurant, i always have to "make it my own".
whether it's just adding salt, or mixing things together.
i'm huge on dipping sauces too. and i like to mix those as well:
ranch with honey mustard
ranch with bar-b-que
etc....
i never seem to eat something just the way it's served...
~ i love the "idea" of sushi.
to me it's fun, it's cute, it's neat, whatever, BUT i refuse to eat raw fish.
i always get california rolls or shrimp tempura rolls (my favorite).
that's all i can think of at the moment.
my growling stomach is preventing me from focusing!
TONIGHT!
that DOES soung good....
what kind of sauce would you use?
plain marinara? or is there a special sauce that would complement it better?
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
hahaha!
EXACTLY!
still can't eat vegetables!
TONIGHT!
so what's everyone eating tonight?
going out?
staying in?
my boyfriend & i are trying to decide where to go tonight.
(maybe i should post this in the boston board for ideas)
hmmm....
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
i don't know.
i like them.
my mom made us those as kids, and i still like them.
my boyfriend said he was also given them as a kid and hated them, so he won't eat them now.
but i think they're not that bad...
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
YES!!! i agree about fruit in jello.
won't ever touch the stuff.
frozen bananas on a stick either.
or banana splits. don't know why....
Guilty Pleasure
guilty pleasure?
TALKING ABOUT FOOD!
ha!
i came accross this website by accident (looking for fish taco recipes) and now i can't leave!!!
i love writing about food, remembering foods that i hadn't eaten since i was a kid, recommending food places, getting good recommendations for food places.
this site is more adicting than myspace! :)
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
oh! tuna!
i was always very picky when it came to tuna.
i had to make it myself.
i didn't eat it when my mom made it.
you see, i had to pick out the weird-looking colored pieces.
the pinks, and dark pieces gross me out.
also, i hated eating the chicken legs/wings 'cause of the little veins and things.
yuck!
What was the worst food you HAD to eat as a kid?
funny thing about pea soup, is that i had always refused to eat it, never even TRIED it! 'cause i hated peas and thought it would taste the same.
though, about 5 years ago, my old roomate made it.
he told me to at least try it, "how can you say you don't like something if you haven't tried it? it doesn't taste like peas, i promise!"
so i tried it and it really didn't taste like peas.
and i actually liked it!
i haven't had it since then, but i would if someone made it.
i think as an adult, i'm a little more willing to taste new things.
as long as it doesn't involve slimy animals, baby animals, blood, or anything TOO weird or crazy...
i hated tomatos as a kid, but love them now (only raw though, i still don't like them cooked.)
i still hate most veggies though...
also, i have a "texture" issue.
i can eat only about 2 or 3 pieces of calamari before the texture of it starts grossing me out...
Things you like slightly burned or burnt?
wow.
this is a long one!
i can't read all of them, and i know cheese has been mentioned, but i'll mention this anyways.
when i make my quesadillas, i like to smoosh out the cheese around the edges so that it sits on the oil for a while and gets crispy & a little burnt. so good.
burnt hotdogs & bologna too.
there's other stuff too, but i can't recall at the moment.
slightly burnt stuff really adds flavor though.
it's weird huh? :)
Things you like slightly burned or burnt?
ooh yeah!
definitely the corners slightly burnt!
mmm.
i also like the slightly burnt corners of brownies. :)
Things you like slightly burned or burnt?
both my mom and grandma love burnt toast.
me, not so much, but a little burnt isn't too bad.
i do love toast!
What made you smile last night?
the quesadilla i made last night with the leftover steak that my boyfriend made the night before.
he marinated it with beer & soy sauce & garlic.
it came out really good...
i used chipotle cheddar cheese.
and used my guacamole & salsa from the previous night as dipping sauces.
smiled with every bite! :)
Guilty Pleasure
~mayo sandwiches.
~jalapeno cheetos.
~ranch dressing. i put it on alot of stuff! i love it on spagetti!

~chicken nuggets at wendy's, with honey mustard & ranch dipping sauces.
~hot dogs at 7-11 with chilli & nacho cheese & onions. (so gross! i know! but i gotta have one once in a while!)
~frito bowls (bag of fritos with hormell chilli w/ beans; sour cream; cheese sauce-i like the jalapeno kind that frito makes; & onions.)
