Need Southern MD help

In Solomon's......I have found that Zahniser's Dry Dock Restaurant has consistently served very good seafood. The location is kind of hard to find, but it's right on the water at the marina. Nice view.....good wine selection.

best breakfast in dc

We enjoy Founding Farmers (Penna Ave & 19th) and also Tabaq on U St.

FF opens at 8am with excellent bloody marys, several different hashes and eggs bennies.

Tabaq has a glass covered retractable rooftop (gorgeous on a sunny day) tastey bloodys (with two large olives), and really cheap eggs benedict.

Pho in NoVA

We like Viet House (South Rt 1 - Alexandria). They serve fresh culantro (ngo gai) along with the usual basil, sprouts, lime, jalapenos, etc. YES.....you read the spelling right...cUlantro. Looks different, but tastes just like cilantro. Outstanding!

It's in the same plaza as Fast Eddies and El Eden Mercado.

FOUNDING FARMERS - DC

A quick note on their Sunday brunch:

Everything we had was spectacular! Started with their house Bloody Mary. The glass was rimmed with celery salt, and bloody mary mix was nicely spiced with pepper infused vodka and a couple of sprigs of fresh cilantro. It was very tasty.

I had the Pastrami Hash topped with medium cooked poached eggs They ask how you prefer them cooked ( yet they were more steamed in cups kinda of eggs). This came with homemade toasted english muffin with whipped butter and housemade cranberry preserves! The preserves were excellent! AND...... with all this food they give you a choice of side salad, fruit salad or heirloom tomatoes slices. $10

My husband chose the Eggs Florentine. Nicely sauteed fresh spinach, sliced tomatoes, lightly "poached" eggs on english muffin with just a smidge of hollandaise. Usually we are both a sucker for extra hollandaise but the juiciness of the marinated tomato kept the dish lubed. $10

The side of fresh fruit had a hint of honey mixed in, and his extra side of heriloom tomatoes were nicely marinated in olive oil and fresh basil. Pretty good for tomatoes in January!

We will definitely make a trip back soon as we were too stuffed to even look at the lunch/dinner menus. Will definitely be back.

One more thing........ great people watching location on the corner of 19th and Penna Ave. We sat at the bar..........received prompt service and tons of information from the bartenders regarding their signature drinks.

Private Raw Bar?

National Oyster Shuckers website quote:

{At the annual National Oyster Shucking Competition in St. Mary's County, the fastest shuckers from the East and West coasts show up to test their skills. George Hastings of Nick's Inner Harbor Seafood at Cross Street Market has won the title twice for Maryland. "We house a number of oyster shuckers who compete," says Nick's manager and chef Paul Bartlett. "George can shuck about a dozen oysters a minute." Despite his accolades, Hastings can still be seen shucking oysters at Nick's during weekend and game-day rushes.}

Beef Stroganoff

Try Chez Andre on E. Glebe in Alexandria. Don't think it's on the menu, but I've had it as a lunch special several times. Tasty!

Taste of MD - Nat'l Harbor this Wkd

Is anyone headed to the National Harbor this weekend for the Taste of Maryland? Apparently it's $25 just to get in and then you have to buy a coupon booklet for tasting tickets.

Anyone have the "in" on whether this event is worth it? The website doesn't list the participating restaurants.

Alexandria suggestions

I'm with you, bin22. Landini's is consistently one of the better restaurants in OT. Have never been disappointed. May be a bit pricey for the OP, though.

Arabic pastry around DC?

Check to see if Jerusalem is still out in Bailey's Crossroads. They had a bakery next to the restaurant filled with trays of middle eastern pastries. Has been several years since I've been out that way, though.
