Fresh Chanterelles in NoVa/DC??

Maybe the mushroom lady at the Courthouse farmers market on Saturday.

Fresh Seafood Dinner in DC: Hank's, Pearl Dive, or somewhere else?

This is more of a question than a reply I guess, but I've noticed that Pesce seems to have fallen off the map when it comes to discussions of seafood places. I used to love it, but it's probably been two years or more since I've been, so have no recent experiences to evaluate. Does anyone have current thoughts on it?

near Reagan airport

Just FYI, Bombay Curry Company is closed at the moment. The building it was in is being gutted and redeveloped. The restaurant is planning to move a few blocks south but it's not re-opened yet.

Beer-centered lunch on Saturday?

I think you'll be happy with either Churchkey or Brasserie Beck. Personally, I like Brasserie Beck just a little more.

Where can I buy minicupcakes for a bridal shower in Washington DC?

I'm pretty sure Buzz in Alexandria does them.

Exquisite and Exciting Meal in Washington, DC - Restaurant Nora or Fiola?

Fiola for sure. Not even close.

Good place for upscale casual lunch in DC?

I think Fiola would be a great choice. They have a couple of very reasonably priced multi-course lunch deals in addition to a la carte.

I had a great lunch there last week.

21st birthday in DC, likes Sake

You might take a look at Kushi, on K Street between 4th and 5th Streets. It's a short walk from the Green Line at Mt. Vernon Square.

Or Sei on 7th very near the Archives/Navy Memorial Stop.

moderate, fairly quiet, great food near Melrose Hotel (2430 Pennsylvania Ave)?

Ris at 23rd and L.
Firefly at 1310 New Hampshire Ave
Hudson at 21st and M

Need a bakery recommendation in Old Town VA

I haven't been in a while, but I used to like Nickells and Scheffler at the corner of King and Henry Streets.

Have you ever not bought local because of merchant's attitude

Got it. That makes perfect sense.

Have you ever not bought local because of merchant's attitude

Hmmm. I wasn't there so I have no context for his comments, but I don't know that his response was BS. Where I live, Virginia, only vendors from bordering states can accept assistance coupons. That means many vendors, from Pennsylvania, quite close but with a small part of MD in between, can't. I wouldn't be surprised that other states require vendors to take a training class at a very inconvenient time. But I'll take your word that he was patronizing and I agree that markets should be accessible and affordable to all.

where are the good indian and thai places near old town, alexandria?!

Just to be clear. You're not going to find anything comparable to Rasika in Alexandria or Arlington. You're just not.

That said, I really like Dishes of India in Belle View -- just south of Old Town off the GW Parkway. And for Thai, I second the rec for Bangkok 54 in Arlington. I haven't found any Thai in Alexandria that wasn't mediocre.

Elephant brand beer in NOVA??

I'd certainly give a call to Rick's Wine and Gourmet in Alexandria. They have an excellent beer selection.

Old Town Alexandria Pubs and Oktoberfest Beer

It's not in Old Town proper, but I'd check Rustico on Slaters Lane.

Rehoboth Beach- favorite dining spots

I love Espuma.

60th Birthday Dinner-Obelisk or Tosca?

I would pick Obelisk. To my mind, it is the best italian restaurant in DC. By a lot.

Espuma, Rehoboth

Thanks both of you for your help.

Espuma, Rehoboth

Several years ago, I had a great meal at Espuma in Rehoboth, but in searching this board for recent posts on restaurants at the Delaware beach, I haven't come across any mention of it. Does anyone know if it's still worth a visit? Other options I['m considering are Off the Hook in Bethany and maybe BlueCoast.

back in DC after long absence - are my old favorites still good?

I'll bet the pasta place the OP is thinking of is the old Il Radicchio -- it's long gone from 17th Street. That location is now home to Komi, arguably the best restaurant in DC.

I just had them Saturday at Hank's Oyster Bar in Old Town.

Outdoor lunch spot near DuPont Circle area and others?

And in Dupont, the patio at the Tabard Inn is, in my view, the best outdoor location in that neighborhood. The food is great, and the space is off the street, so you don't have to inhale exhaust fumes while enjoying it.

Honeymoon In DC

Re: Inn at Little Washington.

In an earlier post you mentioned that you won't have a car. The Inn is a good 90 minutes or so outside of the city, so you may want to rent one for at least a day or so for this to work. A roundtrip taxi trip may cost as much as the meal itself (or more.)

Is Bloom Really THAT Good?

There's also the forecast of the dreaded "wintry mix" tonight. So people need to stock up for the three weeks they might be stuck inside.

Help escaping a conference for non-touristy eats (or attractions, if you've got any)

A minor correction: Indique -- not Indique Heights -- is in Cleveland Park.

Palena, Corduroy or ???

I too really, really liked Corduroy in the new space. I'm not sure what you mean by "what about being right across from the convention center?" I thought the atmosphere was great, the food spectacular and the service excellent. The neighborhood is, for sure, a little quieter and darker than some like Cleveland Park or Dupont, but that had its charm too.

Country Inn suggestions

You should take a look at L'Auberge Provencal in White Post, Virginia.

What's good at Acadiana (and has low cholesterol)?

Something about your comments on shellfish struck me as incorrect. Here's what the Mayo Clnic says about this topic:

Put shellfish back on the "good" list
Wednesday, April 05, 2006

ROCHESTER, Minn. — If you enjoy shellfish but are reluctant to eat it because of worries about cholesterol, take heart. Blue mussels, broiled scallops or a fine Maine lobster are actually heart-healthy protein sources. Most shellfish are not only low in cholesterol, but they can also be rich sources of heart-healthy fats.

So how did shellfish end up on the cholesterol blacklist? The April issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter explains that the commonly held view was likely driven by the fact that the nutritional profile of shellfish includes chemical compounds called sterols. Although cholesterol is just one among many sterols, less sophisticated testing methods used in the past grouped all sterols under cholesterol. So, the cholesterol levels for shellfish generally looked high. Now, laboratory tests can differentiate cholesterol from non-cholesterol sterols.

Another benefit: most shellfish are naturally low in total fat. In particular, most are especially low in saturated fats. An added plus for shellfish is the presence of "good" fats called omega-3 fatty acids. Regular consumption of foods that feature omega-3 fats is associated with lower cholesterol levels and reduced risk of heart disease.

Any cyclists around?

It sounds as if you're not giving your body the rest it needs to recover. If you're riding the same distance at the same speed every day -- you won't ever really recover -- especially if you're riding hard every time.

It sounds like you're suffering from overtraining, not improper diet.

Where to buy Chimay Blue (not at a bar)?

I would think that any reasonably good wine and beer shop will have it. It's not rare.
