vegetarians on texas road trip...

OK, so I'M not a vegetarian, but the BF is and he is pretty militant about it. Here's our little loop:

The Woodlands-Shiner-San Antonio-Austin-The Woodlands

Any must-visits on this route? Looks like we're gonna be on I-35, I-10, FM 95, FM 90, FM 163 and of course 290.

Best things to eat in Glover Park

I'm from Houston too and I can tell you right now that while Rockland's is pretty much nothing like the barbecue you're used to, kate's right in that it's the best bet in the area. Also second bourbon, very simple well-done comfort food.

good vegetarian menus? Arlington/NW DC

what places have good vegetarian options? lost dog, busboys and bangkok are the current go-tos for meatless meals but what else are we missing out on? Looking for prices in all ranges and locations in Arlington/Falls Church/Georgetown/D.C. Also Waldorf. (Random, i know.)

Chicken Fried Steak

I actually liked the CFS at Ted's -- thought the gravy was good and the batter was crispy, although the meat did leave a little to be desired. But the last (and only) time I had it was over a year ago, so who knows how far in any particular direction it may have gone.

Wiinky's Burgers Arlington VA - No reports on the boards, what gives?

I went. Was good. Great wings. Patty is a little thin but tasty. Toppings are all fresh and the pickles are yummy...liked the curly fries...they were pretty stingy with the onion rings.

Coffee

le pain quotidien. it's a chain, but IMO the best cup of coffee anywhere, anytime. northside social is second.

L.A. foodies need to know: Proof? Corduroy?

proof. definitely. stellar wine list, creative food, go, go, go.

Best chili in NOVA/DC?

i am really not a fan of hard times' chili. it's dry, greasy, bland...love their burgers and wings, but never understood how chili became their thing.

i love lost dog's chili.

Whole30/Paleo friendly restaurants in the Washington, DC metro area

i'd definitely do a steakhouse over mongolian barbecue if my parents were footing the bill!

Whole30/Paleo friendly restaurants in the Washington, DC metro area

hahahahaha like i said i "got away with it." probably not supposed to go there :-p but as long as i'm not actually shoveling mashed potatoes or bread in my maw i still feel OK about it!

Whole30/Paleo friendly restaurants in the Washington, DC metro area

I'm paleo and had a good lunch here the other day at this mongolian bbq spot: http://www.khansdc.com/

Since you essentially create your own stir-fry from their raw veggie bar you know everything that's going into your food, which is good...downside is that you don't know what ingredients are in the sauces. It's also a little casual for lunch with the folks, if what you'd been aiming for is a leisurely meal in a nice restaurant.

I also got away with a pseudo-paleo meal at Ted's Bulletin on Monday night with fried chicken, brussel sprouts and salad. They had prime rib and a few other meats, on the menu and since you get to pick your sides you could make sure not to order any starches cheese etc.

Working on lunches now....

do you have a car? there's a great sandwich and pizza place about 1.5 miles down columbia pike from arlington cemetery called lost dog cafe; across the street from it is my favorite little thai spot, bangkok 54. and on the north side of arlington but a short drive from the cemetery there's ray's hellburger...one of the best, if not the best, burger in washington. those would be my top three lunch picks near the area.

Two nights in the mission, one night in sonoma

In SF Thursday, Sonoma Friday, back to SF Saturday and leave Sunday. We're going to a festival in Saturday in Golden Gate Park, so if there are non-touristy culinary gems around that area I'm interested in that as well!

Two nights in the mission, one night in sonoma

Have already done a bit of research and have Papalote, Rosemundo, Bar Tartine and Monk's Kettle on the list. Looking for more cheap/reasonably priced eats, both holes-in-the-wall and nice restaurants, bakeries and taco stands, ethnic stuff, etc.

Not a huge fan of Indian food, but open to anything and everything else that's characteristic of San Francisco! Really would love to try some great Mexican, Chinese, Korean, Japanese or Vietnamese food while there...love New American and Italian as well (not sure whether there's good Italian in SF).

Recommendations for anything that's a must-have in these areas and isn't too ball-bustingly expensive would be very much appreciated!

good storebought cheesecake?

Where's a good bakery in Arlington to get a pre-made cheesecake?

what to get at vinoteca?

dinner here coming up friday night, any suggestions on both food and wine?

what to get at birch & barley?

eating here saturday. what's good, what's not?

Why doesn't Juice Joint get more love around here?

i used to eat here all the time when i worked in farragut. love the stir-fry and never once had a bad wrap there.

restaurant in Foggy Bottom

yeah...not really a fan of meiwah. there's much better chinese in the area (hello, sichuan pavilion.) Grillfish is really good food for the price, that would likely be my first recommendation.

Chowhound coming to DC for the weekend

proof! especially if you're a oenophile. their food is excellent and the wine page is 77 pages long...'nuff said.

Hill Country BBQ coming to DC

us Texans love that "god-awful" soft white bread...it's simple, just a vehicle for the meat, sauce, pickles and onions, doesn't compete for your palate's attention, just an pleasant and understated textural addition.

now y'all have me craving brisket.

basics in pentagon/crystal city?

if you have a car, you're super close to columbia pike. bangkok 54 has great thai. lost dog has great sandwiches and good pizza. bob & edith's has reliable diner food.

What do I order at Honey Pig?

two meats. thick pork belly and bulgogi.

Chicken Fried Steak

bob & edith's has a decent one, but it's with brown gravy, not white. :( if you're into that kinda thing you might like it though. i've also heard the one at ted's bulletin is good...i'm skeptical...

About to move to D.C. from Austin. Will need TexMex, Fajitas, and BBQ

sorry trumbo--i'm a texas native too and you're SOL on all of the above. i will say taqueria el charrito caminante has some decent tacos (not breakfast); when i am REALLY craving tex mex and margaritas i go to lauriol plaza...despite all the hate it gets on this board, it's the only place i've had an even remotely satisfying tex mex experience. don't even try for the barbecue.

$30 Challenge - Any suggestions?

korean food cart at the intersection of vermont nw and k street nw. A really great lunch for $5.don't get it confused with the korean food cart at 14th and L (yuck.)

Restaurants that live up to the hype

best meal i've ever had. 'nuff said.

Restaurants that live up to the hype

The bulgogi cart in Franklin Square at Vermont and K Street (not to be confused with the disgusting bulgogi cart at 14th and L.) I know food carts are all the rage right now, but this is seriously the best food cart I've ever patronized...$4 for homemade kimchi, perfect sticky rice and sweet bulgogi, or $7 for a larger serving of it...great, simple food at a good value. couldn't ask for more.

Restaurant Everyone Hates But You

fuddruckers...oh lord, that bun, so good!

Restaurant Everyone Hates But You

girl i'm on board with you about thai terrace. not my favorite thai restaurant in metro DC, but so convenient for ppl in orange line arlington. and so reasonably priced too. AND they're the only place that makes garlic chicken garlicky enough for me.
