red-ish. yes flash fried basil. that's it. thanks - lets see if this helps anyone else remember specifics. |

Have had a crispy/fried fish dish a few times at Jitlada - divine. For the life of me, can't remember what it's called. it's NOT a whole fish. it's NOT a fillet. it's more like little jagged pieces with some sort of fried coating. comes in a big delicious pile. anyone know? thanks! |

Thanks. And, Sunday April 7 in Virginia at Wat Yarnna Rangsee. it's on their website but you basically need to be able to read and understand Thai. |

Agree with other posters re coming up to Cleveland Park. In Woodley Park, I recommend District Kitchen - IMO the only place in the strip that stands out at all. http://districtkitchen.com/ |

I'm searching around and can't find any good information for a Songkran 2013 festival in the area. Anyone find anything? Thanks! |

Oversized food storage bags [moved from General Topics] This is what I found. They're 2.5 gallon zip-tops. Target had them. thanks all! |

Oversized food storage bags [moved from General Topics] thanks everyone, will take a look. i've never even looked for the larger size, simply assumed 1 gallon might be largest. appreciate your comments! |

Oversized food storage bags [moved from General Topics] I have some items that won't fit into a typical gallon-sized freezer bag, but i really want to put them into sealable bags before placing in freezer. anyone know of where to get oversized sealable freezer bags, or alterntive thoughts? thanks! |

Maui - walking from Four Seasons Monkeypod menu looks nice. Just mapped the walk to Monkeypod and the distance doesn't look like a problem; i guess the grade of the Hill is the issue. 4S provides a little shuttle service in Wailea so perhaps get a lift there, walk back to burn some calories! |
|

Maui - walking from Four Seasons Good question, thank you. I think walking 20ish minutes for a meal is no problem. double that, unless it's going to be life-changing, proably not interested. Willing to go to neighboring resorts for good food, but also realize they'll be as pricey as 4S. Dropping all my cash at 4S so food, as long as it's good, is one way to economize just a little. |

Maui - walking from Four Seasons Greetings all. Treating ourselves to a few days at the Four Seasons at Wailea. Don't intend to have a car. Sure, can and probably will eat some meals on the resort. But, to the degree possible, want to consider going out. So .... anyone with reasonably recent experiences with anyplace walking distance from the Four Seasons? any meal, any "level" of food, including markets if we want to buy snacks etc.? Thanks so much for your help. |

I was on Convent Sunday, Monday, Tuesday during the afternoon and evening. Lots and lots of carts. Especially on Monday. |
|
|
I have a note to myself that says "go to Convent Rd for vendors/great street food. Tuesday thru Friday." Tues-Fri? Really? Any reaction/info anyone has greatly appreciated, thanks. |

Will be in Bangkok for New Years Eve and I DON'T want a "special," overpriced, set meal etc dinner. I'd like to have something nice, but casual, maybe like dinner at Baan Khanita or something like that. Plenty of nice or upscale places are doing special things. I'm staying at the Sukhothai -- Maybe i'll just go to a street market, but does anything either in that neighborhood or reasonably convenient from there pop into your head as someplace to go? thanks! |

Bangkok - Third time's the charm (I hope!) Very interesting, thanks for sharing that. we don't have a particular dish/dishes we crave. What we want is good food, big flavor, and spicy (as much as us farangs can take, anyway) is good. Sukhothai is also recommending Nahm (at Metropolitan Hotel), Bo Lan, and Issaya. Thoughts? Also, a strategy question. Depending on the weather (we do this in Singapore too) it could make sense for us to do a "nice" meal at lunch and leave the street and super casual stuff for evening, after dark. Do you/others think it matters one way or the other? THANK YOU! |

Bangkok - Third time's the charm (I hope!) Thanks - I seem to be following you all over Chowhound - many great recs from you for Singapore too. i have a very long list of places from past research that i'm looking at again, and i recognize it's almost crazy to just ask "where do you like to eat?" But......if you have a ready made list or thoughts of places you like for Thai food, and no they absolutely do not have to be posh at all, i'm all eyes/ears. thanks! |

Bangkok - Third time's the charm (I hope!) For a variety of reasons, had two trips to Bangkok cancelled in the last four years. Scheduled to be there late this month and am looking forward to eating very well. Am doing research and as always am grateful to all of your posts and anyone willing to respond here. Want to focus almost exclusively on Thai food. Not afraid of anything. I imagine a fair amount of skytrain travel. Staying at the Sukhothai. We have six dinner and five lunch "slots," plus grazing as we're out and about. From past research, i have a long list of places to consider. General strategy is no lunch reservations but stay very casual (and air conditioned, mostly!) wherever we find ourselves in town. Or, be in a particular neighborhood to visit but target a particular place. Does that make sense to you? Will make dinner reservations. On a recent nontrip we had reservations at Thanying, Supatra River House, Blue Elephant, and Baan Khanitha and Gallery. What do you think of these places and do you think it makes sense to try again? Recommendations for two more in that similar vein? Am of course reading all posts but always very, very happy to get comments/thoughts/recs. Thanks in advance. |

We had a lovely but quick visit to NoLa this past weekend. Had a lovely time and ate very well. Friday dinner: Herbsaint. Truly awesome. Great vibe and food with huge flavor. Major score all the way around as far as I was concerned. See you again! |

Thanks for this suggestion - went to Red Gravy and it was delightful. Good food, friendly atmosphere. Would happily return. |
|
|
Thanks! Those look like excellent options and certainly "nearby;" only a several block walk. Need the walk to work off a little bit of breakfast! |
|
|
I've neglected my planning and haven't done my research - mea culpa. Staying the weekend at the Sheraton on Canal St. - any quick thoughts for a good Saturday morning breakfast nearby? thanks! |
|

Singapore - Kinki and Rang Mahal Thanks again. Turns out that Rang Mahal at Pan Pacific is undergoing renovations, won't reopen until September. Vansh has been on my list for the past couple of visits but I haven't made it there. We're staying at the Fullerton; sounds like you think it would be worth a MTR ride for an air conditioned lunch or dinner at Vansh? |

First visit for dinner last weekend. This is a lovely place with friendly staff and terrific food. Chicken Korma and a fish curry - big flavor in both, and appropriate heat in the curry. Would be glad to return. Note: we were the only customers when we arrived at approx 7:45 on a Saturday evening. two or three additional parties by the time we left. Not a "hood where they will get any foot traffic, so spread the word. www.fusionrnb.com 4815 Georgia Ave NW, DC |

nice! and thanks for your reply. AND.........I've done it (or rather not done it) again. You might recall that Iast year I discovered that I'd neglected to post experiences after our trip the summer before. Well......deja vu. I'll remedy that soon. Thanks as always for your wonderful advice. Looking forward very much to being in that part of the world again. food item to make this a legit post: last year at Wild Rocket we discovered Lychee Beer. Whoa. Loved it. Looking forward to more of that too. |

Hello again friends. We might choose to go to Relish, of the WildRocket group. Recent experiences? if we do, do you recommend the outpost on Bukit Timah near Botanical Gardens, or out in Serangoon? thanks! |

Singapore - Kinki and Rang Mahal Greetings Singapore friends. Wondering if you have any experience/opinios of either Kinki or Rang Mahal. They look good to me. Don't find anything here with a search. Thanks! |

Oaxaca meals, and......Marco Polo downhill? Thanks all, will report back. I'm wondering what my best dinner option might be on a Thursday night. Staying in Centro. Scheduled to land in Oaxaca at approximately 8:00 p.m. Maybe Casa Oaxaca, or La Biznaga, or similar. I like the idea of the Friday set Comida at Los Danzantes. Based on past experience will definitely have comida at Marco Polo and will see for myself how they're doing. Definitely not enough meal opportunities! Three dinners, two comidas, two breakfasts. And snacks. And of course nieves! |

Oaxaca meals, and......Marco Polo downhill? Greetings all. Upcoming, too-short visit to Oaxaca. Was last there a couple of years ago and, among other meals, had a really great comida at Marco Polo. Have been doing some research and what mentions I see (most recent are late 2011) make me wonder if they've gone downhill. Your take? I'm reading through my old notes and what I see here on chowhound. If you're so inclined to think about it for a minute........I'll have opportunities for two breakfasts, two comidas, three dinners. Not nearly enough meals! If this were your itinerary, where might you go? My focus is on Mexican/regional style food. Mix of "nice" and "casual." "Food with big flavor" is what I care about most. thanks! |
|

Oaxaca City recommendations needed Wow, it's two years later and I have no idea why I never replied to your note. So sorry! My wife and I are headed to Oaxaca mid-March for a short visit. Looking through these posts for reminders/suggestions, and I promise to report back this time. As of now, good chance we'll visit both Casa Oaxaca and Casa Oaxaca Cafe. |
