Airport dining?

We have a four hour layover at Toronto airport. Anything fun to do? Any place to have a nice dinner?

Where to eat in Ottawa [split from the Quebec board]

cancelled Social, was able to make a reservation for Play! they don't have a menu online, so suggestions as to best dishes would be welcome. Thanks for advice.

Where to eat in Ottawa [split from the Quebec board]

18 did not have reservations available at a reasonable time on my birthday. What do you think about Social?

Where to eat Ottawa and Montreal

I should probably also mention that I am disabled and use a scooter to get around, so restaurant needs to be accessible i.e. can enter without stairs, or need some nice strong folks to lift my scooter into the restaurant. I will not leave it outside as some have suggested. BTW, we loved Pied de Cochon last itme we were in town, but it was crazy busy and we needed to wait an hour even with reservations. Is this typical?

Where to eat Ottawa and Montreal

We love Chinese and Italian, Brazillian Steak houses, classic French, Nuveau anything, but will pretty much try anything that doesn't bite us first. Would like something quiet, but music is okay, just really loud. Fine dining is great, but hubby does not like to dress up much. Does this help?

Fogo de Chao - Brazilian BBQ [moved from DC/Balt]

Hubby has a business dinner (with boring speeches) and has invited me along. Is the menu worth the price?

Where to eat Ottawa and Montreal

We will be making 2 back to back business trips to your lovely country. In Ottawa I think we are staying at the Lord Elgin. In Montreal we will be at the Le Centre Sheraton. We will be celebrating my birthday in Montreal and our anniversary in Ottawa. Suggestions for special places to eat in each city would be most welcome. We will eat anything that won't bite us first with the exception of sushi. Hubby does not like to get dressed up. We prefer local eateries to chains, and will have a car, so we can go most anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Stoney Brook Reunion

So we are going to hubby's college reunion over the weekend. We're going a little early to hook up with some friends. We are all staying at the Residence Inn in Holtsburg. Is there anywhere you recommend for dinner? We all have good appetites and our tastes range from foodie to just okay. No particular cuisine in mind, but we'd prefer to avoid chains and student places. (We spouses will have enough of nostalgia the rest of the weekend). Thanks!

ISO Old Bay Seasoning

How funny, I live in Maryland- (where Old Bay Seasoning is everywhere. But when I visit Montreal, I take home many bottles of Schwartz's seasonings to tide me over until my next trip or I can beg a friend to bring me some.

Louie Mack's Steakhouse - Lakeland

So we are celebrating Dad's 80th birthday. Here is where he wants to go. Is it any good? Anything to watch out for? Your advice is appreciated.

Left over hamentashen stuffing - what to do?

There used to be a cheese store in Westchester that made baked farmers cheese with various fruit filling - mostly dried fruits. I bet the hamentashen fillings would work just as well. Thank you for sparking this reminder.

Left over hamentashen stuffing - what to do?

I love this idea, thank you! I have a little of this and a little of that so rugelach would work really well.

Left over hamentashen stuffing - what to do?

me too!

The Seder Plate

We use both parsley and potatoes for karpas, and both horseradish and and romaine lettuce for the marror. Our seder plate has room for 2 marrors. We dip the romaine in the charoseth and use the horseradish for the Hillel sandwich. We also have olive as a wish for peace, an orange to honor women's place in our history and practice as well as a Mirriam cup.

The Seder Plate

Our local whole foods carry emu eggs. They are huge - and green!

What R U trying to use up before Pesach?

We eat a lot of "freezer surprise" whatever package I happen to grab becomes dinner. Anything I don't think we are going to eat goes into the food box. Any frozen food we don't eat goest to a nearby soup kitchen.

Left over hamentashen stuffing - what to do?

So this is the first year I made my own hamentashen - rhubarb, pumpkin, mun, apricot and raspberry. I have some raspberry and apricot filling left. Truthfully after6 batches with two different types of cookie, I'm a bit tired of hamentashen. Any suggestions for other things I can do with the left over fillings? Recipes are most welcome.

Your Favorite Kosher Cookbooks

The Passover vegetable kugle and Rosh Hashana pumpkin rodanchos have become so popular among family and friends that I have to make several rounds of triple recipes. In the Jew Holiday Baker, the chocolate honey cake for Rosh Hashana has been a big hit as my family doesn't really like traditional honey cake.

Hamentaschen in D.C.?

Shaloms has the best hamentashen in the area hands down. If you go on-line to a kosher food website buy the ones from either Butterflake, or the five towns.

Where to eat in Ottawa?

We will be attending a meeting for 5 days. I am the plus one. My birthday is included in the dates of the meeting. Are there some special restaurants to try? We will eat most anything, but when travelling like to eat what the locals eat. Suggestions?

Sunday brunch at Pomegranate Grill in Potomac MD

I called to see if they were still selling their yummy roast chickens. The price has gone up to $14 and you must call 24 hours in advance. So much for picking up a quick dinner on the spur of the moment if I didn't feel like cooking.

Hamentashen Coffee Cake

I seem to remember seeing a recipe for hamentashen coffee cake somewhere. I could swear I printed it out, but of course can't find it. Has anyone heard of such and thing, and if so will you share the recipe?

Your Favorite Kosher Cookbooks

Any of the Joan Nathan cookbooks are wonderful, but my favorite is The Jewish Holiday Kitchen. I have worn out a few copies.

Hexagon

That was my first thought, but, we went there last time we did this, and the group wanted to try someplace else. Did I mentioned they were pretty boring diners?

I need an idea for dinner out in Mont Cty

How about Burma Road? They are not likely to find Burmese food in your average mid-west town. Additionally, there is standard but good Chinese food if they are not adventurous, but interesting and wonderful choices on the Burmese side of the menu if they are. You can eat very well for about $20 per person and can sample several dishes in each course. Service is wonderful..

Hexagon

Eight of us will be attending a Hexagon performance at Montgomery College in Silver Spring. We'd like to have dinner together before the performance. Several of us are foodies, but most have very timid dining habits - nothing spicy, no Chinese (they've had it before), Mexican and Indian are scary, etc. Given these parameters can anyone suggest a place to have a nice pre-theater dinner? Manny thanks.

Delicata squash

Whole Foods used to have it around Thanksgiving. They often used them only for decoration, so you had to swipe them from their displays. Asian Markets often have a bigger selection of squash, perhaps you can find something similar.

Where to eat in or near Lakelands, FL

Visiting Dad in Lakelands in a few weeks. We are foodies. Dad thinks he is adventurous, but not so much. He is also pretty impatient, so won't wait on lines, and service needs to be good regardless of the price point. We would love to get a good Cuban sandwich and other Cuban food while we are there, and stone crabs if in season, or some good pompano or other fresh Florida fish. Suggestions?

Salmon burgers?

Whole foods has several varieties. As they grind the salmon from scraps from their higher priced salmon filets, they are pretty good. We are fond of the spinach and feta variety.

Passover Coke

Saw it Monday in the Costco in Gaithersburg. I am not sure if there is a hekshur, but it was cane sugar only coke (in a bottle!) so no hekshur is technically needed as there is no corn syrup.
