Fork Fest - Edmonton Chowhounds

Husband and I are trying out Sabor Divino this weekend and Jack’s Grill next week. Trying to persuade him to add Blue Pear to our list as well.

Would love to hear more reviews in addition to Red Ox (which is our go-to resto already)!

Noshing in Canmore

Hello fellow foodies!

We just returned from a lovely four-day weekend in Canmore. Here's a shortened version of where & what we ate:

Quarry - had a delicious brunch...eggs benedict with pancetta on parmesan scones. The eggs had a deep yellow yolk and the potatoes were crispy and tasty. The scones? Unbelievably good! A bit of a wait for our food though.

Bella Crusta - picked up a large chicken salad sandwich ($7.50) on in-store made foccacia fragrant with rosemary. It was so large I was able to share it with hubby. Also noticed amazing-looking pizzas in the display. This is a must visit place!

Wild Orchid Asian Bistro - had amazingly delicious Crispy Salmon Rolls and a solid mixed plate of sashimi. The presentation of the food and view of Three Sisters from their patio just added a certain je-ne-sais-quoi to our meal. Great service as well!

Crazy Weed - our friends ate here and thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The squash soup and the curry seafood bowl were a hit with them!

Divine Cravings - stopped in for savoury crepes (a smoked salmon & a mexican). Both were made of buckwheat flour and served piping hot... and were yummy... BUT my favourite was the banana & nutella dessert crepe.

Coffee Mine - had a Sicilian panini - it was an ooey-goey-lick-your-fingers-kind-of-good! The pastries, cakes and pies looked great too.

Gourmet Croissant - picked up almond and butter croissants plus a pain du chocolate. All were delectable...the kind of delectable where you find yourself picking up the crumbs from your shirt and eating those too. ;-)

As you can probably tell we did not have one negative dining experience in Camore. Knock on wood. And we're certainly looking forward to our next visit!

Happy noshing in the mountains y'all!

Cupcakes in Edmonton?

I just tried a Flirt cupcake on Whyte Avenue (located near the 7-11) and it was quite lovely.

Alas...nothing compares to Crave Cupcakes in Calgary.

Cupcakes in Edmonton?

I agree with abatke.

I have, on numerous occasions, made certain my trips to Calgary included a stop at Crave Cupcakes.

Nothing I've tried in Edmonton even compares to these delectable little cakes.

My fav is the lovely bunch of coconuts - but I always enjoy trying the flavour of the month as well.

Edmonton Restaurants

Felix,

For Italian try Piccolino's or Il Pasticcio.

For Mexican - I would suggest El Rancho or Mexico Lindo.

Happy Noshing!

Good (authentic) ethnic restos in Edmonton

Try:

Miso (Stony Plain Rd.) for Japanese.

Dynasty (Calgary Trail NB) for consistent dim sum (the har gao and curry tripe are delish!) I disagree with the other hounds on Noodle Noodle - I found the selection limited and geared towards a downtown Caucasian clientele - in other words, bland and overpriced.

El Rancho for authentic Mexican and Salvadorean fare

Mexico Lindo for true Mexican food

Double Greeting Wonton House - a dive yes, but the best wonton soup in the city and the prices are low! Also, try their beef and green onion hot pot and their crispy yet fluffy green onion cakes.

The Cheese Factory for simple yet very good Yugoslavian food (very friendly owners)

Nhon Hoa in Chinatown for cheap Vietnamese subs (try the assorted)

Tea Cottage (downtown or WEM location) for bubble tea (my fav is the avocado with sago)

Ariana for Afghani food

Sofra for Turkish food

B Bim Baap for Korean

Il Pasticcio for Italian

Happy Noshing!
