santa monica restaurant to take out of towners?

I live in Santa Monica and always wonder where to take my pals from out of town or out of the country. There are two categories, good food or views.

There is the restaurant that is on the top of the old Huntley Hotel (2nd just north of Wilshire)though I can't remember the name even though I just went there. Used to be a mexican restaurant and now it's a high end place with that same wonderful view.

And no matter how you slice it, Gladstones is still fun for a drink and a bowl of clam chowder on the deck.

Michaels is always a treat. I hear great things about FIG in the Fairmont. Boa for steaks, Ocean Avenue Seafood or Ivy on the Shore which is a guarantee celebrity spot.

Help Need Xmas Beef Dish

Thanks everyone for your terrific suggestions. I did make prime rib one year and agree it's the best way to go but very expensive - for twelve of us it was $100.00 from my favorite butcher but you are right the issue with prime rib is some people don't like any pink and I can't fathom spending all that money and then making the beautiful piece of meat well done.

Teriyaki Fries - used to be in the valley

Andrews Cheese on Montana

It is open and quite nice. They sell cheese, sandwiches and some specialty foods but no wine, I love Fireside Cellar too. When you ask to taste a cheese they give you a card to take home about the cheese making it easier to remember.

We need to support our local stores on Montana.

Thank you for your response. I live near the Montana Pavillions which is the first place I went and that store is just exasperating - no one ever knows what they have. And have you noticed they seem to hire people that seem a tad challenged, I'm not being mean and I think that's great, but no one ever knows where anything is. Best store is the Farms on Montana - best prepared food and I swear by the Butcher, always fresh and high grade meat.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have asked the managers of these stores and am amazed they simply do not know the merchandise they carry and evidently there is no database they can view to see. They are usually near the ice cream topping.
