Salvadoran Creme (or cream)
I've yet to find a place in Manhattan that sells Salvadoran creme. I've only found Mexican creme. If anyone knows of a good South American grocer that carries Salvadoran creme (among other things), I would really appreciate you help.
Beef from Argentina
I just ate at Lomito, then was checking other 'Argentinian' posts. I had an awesome steak there. I don't know if it was Argentinian beef or not. If it was, that would explain it. You may want to call them and ask. I think the menu said corn-fed, so who knows. The chimichurri was good though.
Lomito - Any early reviews?
I went last night. I didn't notice the menu as that expensive, but I also didn't order appetizers.
The decor is a blend of modern and rustic. Being a designer I also noticed at the bar (where I sat) the light fixtures have these really cool multi-filament light bulbs that look very classic and modern at the same time. Gotta find em.
I had the filet mignon with the chimichurri. Seared rare (black and blue), cooked perfect. Their chimichurri was not invasive on the meat flavor, great sauce. The filet was one of the best cuts of meat I've ever had. It was like butter. Possibly one of the best steaks I've had, and I've had some good ones. I need to go back as make sure they are that good all the time.
They also have white wine sangria. The bartender said they serve it all year round which is cool. My favorite restaurant in Baltimore only served it in summertime. It was crisp and clean, great recipe.
Had dessert which I never do, but the steak was so good I had to try some chocolate. I forget what they called it but it was basically a chocolate lava cake with a small scoop of chocolate ice cream or sorbet. It was good and made fresh.
The filet was 37 I think. I had about 3 or 4 sangrias and the dessert. Total 73 bucks, plus tip.
Not expensive in my book for a nice restaurant in the city. I don't know why the fish would be small (as noted by the other reviewer) and the filet so large (one if the biggest cuts I've seen). I haven't had anything else though. Maybe the menu is hit and miss? I will find out though because I will go back for more sangria.
Any Salvadoran Groceries?
I'm disappointed you have gotten any answers. I've been trying to find Salvadoran Creme and can't find it anywhere (just Mexican creme). There are supposedly Salvadoran grocers in Hempstead, but that's a bit of a hike. Plus I haven't found actual store names online yet. Let me know if you have found anything. I know of at least 2 stores in Baltimore. I would think Manhattan would have at least one.
p.s. I'm also looking for a good Italian grocer and Korean grocer. The closer to Chelsea the better
