How is Wright's Chicken Farm?
The couple is still married. We met in college, although they knew each other before hand through the LaSalle school system. The lunatic families still cause them problems, and they caused problems at the wedding, there was fainting, a fire, and the wedding wasn't even official because someone "misplaced" the wedding license. My poor friends had to go to the Justice of the Peace's house the next day to have the document officially signed before they left for the honeymoon.
How is Wright's Chicken Farm?
I've been there, but it was back in 2003, and as the only non family member for a wedding rehearsal dinner with both families full of lunatics, so take the review with a grain of salt. The chicken was quite tasty, but the sides were nothing to write home about. I wouldn't go back, but again, that could just be the disastrous company I was with coloring my recollection.
Calling all bread bakers...
What recipes have you used to try to recreate the bread, and what about them was off?
Chipotle Taste Without The Heat In Dressings, Dips, and Sauces
Have you tried Penzey's chipotle powder? I found a dash gives the smoky flavor without too much heat, although that won't solve your issue with particulates.
Ad Hoc At Home by Thomas Keller.
Has anyone made the pasta dough? It really seems like it wouldn't work, 14 egg yolks and 1 whole egg for 13 ounces of flour, plus olive oil, and milk.
Simple things you can't get right
Thank you so much for that tip about greasing the cutter! You have no idea how happy you've made me that I finally, finally got the slashing right on my sourdough! It's in the oven right now rising beautifully!
Caramel Fail-Help!!
+1. I made caramels the other week that were firm enough to pick up but still soft enough to chew and I cooked the sugar/butter/cream to 250 before pouring it into my loaf pans.
Simple things you can't get right
See, I'm not sure I make rice often enough to justify buying a dedicated gadget.
Reading through the thread it seems that rice and pie dough were what Einstein was referring to with his definition of insanity.
Simple things you can't get right
Oh I can't wait to tell my husband that there's a reason to like my frigid hands! They are the keys to my success at making pie and puff pastry dough.
Rice is an endless sorce of frustration for me, it's either still crunchy or falling apart mushy.
Colchester, CT - a culinary wasteland?
Ah well. Neither place, Gilbertie's or the Mexican place, is destined to last. That spot has been so many different restaurants over the years.
Colchester, CT - a culinary wasteland?
Driving through Colchester after visiting my Mom I saw there was a Mexican restaurant in that spot that never lasts as a restaurant, just before the split between 85 and Parum Road
What is this gorgeous cake?
It says right on top of the cake, Fraisier ;-) I don't know if this is the same recipe since it's not from Didier Rouiller, but it's probably pretty similar. http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/strawberry-and-cream-fraisier
Gift certificate for Penzey's
Vietnamese cinnamon, ground chipotle, saffron, mulling spices, rosemary, herbs de provence, and two spice blends that I can't think of the name of at the moment, fox point maybe?
Gift certificate for Penzey's
I did get aleppo pepper while I was there, and I used it in my sausage ragu. It was delicious, just the right amount of spiciness with a nice fruity flavor too.
Holiday baking brioche
I'm going to lose my standing as Pole, but I hate sauerkraut. Any other form of cabbage I have no problem with, but I can't stomach the choucroute.
Holiday baking brioche
I'm thinking that for my home baked gifts this coming Christmas I'd like to make individual brioches with cheese and some kind of cured meat. I was thinking chorizo and tomme noir des pyrenees (if I can find it) but I'm open to other suggestions. What kind of cured meat and cheese bread would you like to receive as a gift?
Kaffir lime leaves = Fruit Loops?
I'm so glad you said that! I thought they tasted familiar, and now that I think about it, it's totally fruit loops!
Breakfast in or near Lebanon CT
My home town! The Log Cabin Restaurant does breakfast, I've never had breakfast there, but it's close to the green. http://logcabinct.com/ Or I'm sure you could find some place in Colchester or Marlborough on your way down.

Gift certificate for Penzey's
Ooh, I didn't know they had allepo pepper! I'll definately add that and cinnamon to my list
Gift certificate for Penzey's
Ground chipotle sounds interesting, and like something I would use quite a bit
Gift certificate for Penzey's
I was recently given a gift card ($50) for Penzey's Spices. I find if I go to a place like Penzey's without something specific in mind, I'm overwhelmed by the choice and wind up with nothing. So, any recommendations of worthwhile products at Penzey's?
Piquillo and Pimenton in Hartford, CT area
This is my first attempt at making Spanish food myself, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could find piquillo peppers? I'm fairly sure Penzy's in West Hartford has smoked Spanish paprika, but if they don't, does anyone know where I could find pimenton? I'm assuming these are the kind of ingredients that are not available at good old stop and shop.
Trader Joe's Cocoa Powder
Ha, definately natural cocoa powder. My chocolate pate sucre rose and puffed up like crazy
Trader Joe's Cocoa Powder
Thanks to you both! I figured after I posted that it was probably natural since it didn't say anything about alkali.
Trader Joe's Cocoa Powder
Does anyone know if it's dutch processed or natural cocoa? I can't find it anywhere on the package, and Trader Joes never got back to me about which kind it was.
