Who has the BEST Onion soup in MTL or Saint Sauveur

Not in Saint Sauveur but at exit 76 (Val-David) the Creperie Tournesol has the best onion soup i've had anywhere near Montreal.

New Yorker seeks BEST EATS in Montreal for friend's birthday

I would second Le Cartet and Olive and Gourmando. I will also add Kitchen Galerie. You need a reservation at least 1 week in advance and in my opinion it is one of the best restos in Montreal. It has plenty of foie gras on the menu They specialize in a steak for two that is out of this world. I think it fits exactly the type of restaurant you described above. I hope you go and enjoy it as much as we do!

By the way, at Le Cartet they have goat cheese and eggs on toast and its my favorite dish there. At Kitchen Galerie they also usually have a goat cheese risotto!

Lastly, I'd also add Lawrence for a lunch/brunch open on Sunday. As well as chein fumant for both dinner and brunch!

Is there great pizza in Montreal?

I'm not sure this is exactly what you are looking for but the restaurant Jane has a white pizza and its really tasty. My only issue with Jane is the crust is really thick.
I have also had really good pizza at Magpie but again I'm not sure they have white pizza or exactly what you described.
I also agree that Bottega is very good pizza. Its light and definitely not topping or sauce heavy..

chip wagon

I am looking for a chip wagon (a truck that sells burgers, hot dogs, poutine) to come to my home for a party on a friday or saturday evening.
does anyone know of any? if not a chip wagon than any type of food truck you can hire for a private party.
thanks in advance

French Onion Soup?

I have never had it but they have a french onion and leek soup on the menu of Le Local on William and if I had to guess I'm sure its very good.
The menu should also satisfy what you are looking for.. enjoy!

little familial Italian?

what about Il piatto della nonna? Its very casual and also inexpensive. Its always table d'hote and for I think around $15 you get soup or salad, the best pasta and tomato sauce, and a coffee and a small dessert. There are also other options... like sausages, lasagne, meat balls.. and the menu is always changing. Everything is VERY good!

scarpetta or maialino?

i see one address on madison and the other on columbus.. which is the closer one? thanks!
Also, as of now we are leaning towards Maialino.. how far would the walk be to the theater district if we end up there?

Thanks for all the help!

scarpetta or maialino?

when i look this up it says its over 4 miles to the theater or a 1:22 minute walk.
Is this wrong?
I am hoping to walk to the theater in 20ish minutes or less.

scarpetta or maialino?

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked them both up and they seem to be a bit more upscale in terms of the atmosphere. For example, it says "jackets preferred" on open table.
While I am looking for a good meal, we prefer casual elegant over super upscale.
Of Scarpetta and Maialino.. is the atmosphere similar?
Thanks again!

scarpetta or maialino?

Which of these two restaurants would you recommend for a 5:30pm reservation before the theater (I only have one night in NYC). I know they are both not very close (30 minute walk) but I couldn't find anything that seemed interesting closer.
So which of these is better and why? Also, best dishes would be great! Or if you have a recommendation closer to the theater I would appreciate that as well. I looked into Esca but it is already booked.
Prefer Italian but open to suggestions.

Thanks so much!

2 nights in boston

Hi,
I am from out of town( montreal) and staying in back bay for two nights. We have reservations at Scampo and Oishii.
Are these good choices?
Also, any good recommendations for a great brunch would be great! Husband is a big meat lover so a brunch with great meat options is best!

Thanks.

Great wonton soup in Montreal

Another great chinese resto that gets no mention on this board, Bon Ble Riz, has amazing wonton soup. The dumplings are homemade and have a very different filling than any I have tasted before. The rest of the food is very good and high quality as well.

bachelorette party- sexy chef wanted

I am hosting a bachelorette party and I thought a fun idea would be to have a cooking lesson for the group of girls by a private male chef who would cook maybe topless or something like that ; ).
Has anyone heard of any service like this or does anyone have any similar ideas that could work?
I don't want to do the typical stripper thing but I want to incorporate cooking and something sexy!
Thanks for the help!!

Dominion Open Date?

I actually ended up trying the place as well. I agree with the most of the comments from Little Edie. The restoration is amazing and the bathrooms are very cool!
The food on the other hand was only alright. We actually all LOVED the corn fritters. They were light and airy and not too greasy however they could have had a bit more corn.. but either way they were great. Best part of the dinner for sure!
The main courses we tried got mixed reviews. I didn't try it but no one at the table liked the steak or the sides it came with. The cod which I had was decent. It came with a carrot puree and sauteed kale which were pretty good.
So overall, we all decided we wouldn't be running back for a complete dinner but for drinks and some bar snacks its a nice place.

Dominion Open Date?

Has anyone tried it yet? I'd love to hear a review.
Thanks

In need of a downtown Montreal brekkie spot

I recommend either McKiernan's on Notre Dame which has some delish and unique brunches and a cozy atmosphere. I think they are only opened on Saturdays for brunch.
Also, I really like LeMeac for brunch. The menu is online if you want to take a look.

Enjoy!

Looking for a place with "personality"

Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot in Chinatown is great. Its perfect for something different, especially on a cold winter night!
Enjoy.

Appleton Vietnamese Resto in Cote des Neiges

I will have to disagree. I find the food very fresh and not greasy which I like. The garlic chicken and noodle dish are great.
Its not a fancy place but for a good, somewhat healthy meal I am a fan.

Habs game on TV + decent food?

Not really a Habs watching atmosphere but Hoai Huong on Victoria has a plasma and they play the habs games when they are on. Despite the atmosphere, at least you get a delicious meal!

Prepared pot luck main in Westmount?

There is an Italian grocery store called "Cavalleros" where you could pick up some great pizza or some prepared salads and pastas. Just to warn you though.. if you are only going at 8pm most places on Sherbrooke will be closed except the Metro grocery store and the restaurants. You could also do dessert and pick up a Dairy Queen treatza pizza which are great for a party.
Enjoy.

Take Out from Petit Alep

So I have been wanted to try Petit Alep for some time now due to all the rave reviews on this board. I found myself in the are and decided to pick up dinner for me and my significant other. I ordered the chicken shish taouk plate and he had the filet mignon kebab plate. It smelled delicious on the drive home and we were both very excited to try it.
I opened up the boxes and I have to say the portions were TINY. Now, I'm not a huge eater so for me it was ok.. but he looked at his filet mignon and literally laughed. I wish I took a picture to post but I will say there were 4 tiny bite-sized pieces of filet mignon on some pita with a tiny side of rice and salad.
Everything tasted pretty good but is this their typical sized meal in the restaurant? If so I guess we won't be returning.
Thanks!

quiet, moderate to upscale Sunday night dinner in downtown Montreal

I would choose Bice over Il Cortile. It's getting a bit cold to eat outside and the indoors there is nothing special. Also, last time I went to Il Cortile in July the food went very downhill. My husbands filet mignon was horrible and my pasta was nothing special.

Another good option is Ariel on Drummond. The food is very good and the restaurant is very charming (sorry, just realized its closed Sunday!).

Montreal restos - Please help me with my list

Reading your preference for delish sandwiches I would say you can't skip Olive & Gourmondo (my favorite is the chicken on the most amazing bread ever). I really prefer it over Titanic and Cluny.
Also you should reconsider putting McKiernan's back on your list for lunch. All their sandwiches are amazing. Although, their dinners are also great. Fresh local ingredients in a cozy atmosphere and they even grow alot of their produce in the back garden!
Enjoy your trip..
