Saxapahaw General Store (between Triangle and Triad NC)

We went there this past Saturday for our anniversary. It is really just a convenience store with a kitchen attached and a few booths and tables. Well there is outside dining too on the patio. We chose to sit inside in a booth though. Hmm, well, I guess I was expecting a little more. I got the scallops with succotash. It was pretty good. My husband got the goat burger. The olive tapenade was very good on it. The burger was under-cooked though. He asked the waitress if it was supposed to be that rare and she said that is the rarest she's ever seen it and then offered to have a new one made up. I thought they would have more desserts, but I think all they had were some no bake oatmeal cookies, some icecream, and I think some cookies. But no cakes, pies, or dessert desserts, which I was disappointed about. It was about a 45 minute drive for us to go there and I don't really feel like it was worth it. If it was nearby, I would probably go back several times to try different things. If I happened to be in the area, I would go back, but I wouldn't make a special trip. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere, so I don't imagine I'll just happen to be in the area ever again.

Jumble Room Review

I just returned from a trip to England where we ate at the Jumble Room in Grasmere. I had thier lamb special, which was very good. My husband wasn't too hungry so he just had a bowl of soup. The soup was good too, but I wouldn't say spectacular. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding with custard. I should preface this by saying this is the first time either of us had had sticky toffee pudding. But this dessert was amazing! It was the culinary highlight of our trip. The flavors were complex and interesting and the sweetness was PERFECT. A lot of desserts are too sweet and others are not sweet enough. This was perfection. I have been dreaming about this dessert ever since I've had it. (On a side note, does anyone have a recipe similar to the Jumble Room's?) The serving size was not skimpy either. It wasn't huge but it was certainly big enough for the 2 of us to share. If I ever return to the Lake District, at the top of my list will be a meal at the Jumble Room!

Good Italian Restaurant in Raleigh

I go to Daniel's a lot, as it is not too far from where I live. My favorite dish is their mushroom raviolis. Although I have to say that they vary in quality. Sometimes they are spot on and sometimes they lack flavor. I have also had their puttanesca and their chicken marsala, both of which I found okay, but not fabulous. (Their chicken marsala actually made me wish I had gone to Carrabbas and ordered the pasta wessie.) The worst dish I have had from Daniels is their chicken parmigiana. The sauce was completely bland. I did not care for the dish at all. Onto their desserts: I LOVE and am addicted to their chocolate cream pie. This is the best chocolate cream pie I have ever had. Their tres leche cake is pretty good, but it is not what I would call traditional tres leche cake. I was disappointed the first time I ordered it because I was expecting traditional tres leche cake. But once I stopped thinking of it as that specific type of cake, I enjoyed it a lot more. I have also had the peanut butter pie, which I didn't care for. I can't think of many meals that could top their mushroom raviolis (when prepared well) and chocolate cream pie. But everytime I go there, I do feel a little like it's a crap shoot as to whether the mushroom raviolios will be good that day.

I had seen Cinelli's in several places around the triangle and wanted to try them. I had a pasta with vodka white sauce (I don't remember the exact name). I found it a little bland. This is what the server had recommended to be when I asked for a suggestion. I don't remember what my friend had, but we both agreed that the food wasn't terrible but it didn't make me want to go back either.

RTP: Saffron

I ate here about 4 months ago for lunch and had the buffet. It was okay. There was only 1 dish that really stood out as something I would go back for. I can't remember the name though. It was some kind of chicken dish. However, I must add that my husband works in RTP and he and his co-workers go there often as several people on their team are vegetarians and so they try to go to restaurants that can accommodate vegetarians when they go out as a group. Not long after I went there, my husband came home and said that the chicken dish I had enjoyed so much (which happens to be my husband's favorite) didn't taste as good as it used to and they raised their lunch buffet price. Then a few weeks later my husband told me they went there again and that everyone on the team agreed that they weren't going there for lunch anymore because it wasn't as good as it used to be and with the price increase it just wasn't worth it.

Cotswolds Recommendations

I will be in the Cotswolds for a few days and am looking for some good places to eat while there.

Thanks for the replies! We will be in Bath, London, the Cotswolds, and the Lake District.

Caffeine Free Tea in UK?

This may sound like a dumb question, but I am wondering if places that serve afternoon tea have caffeine free teas available. My husband and I are vacationing in the UK in 3 weeks and I'd like to take afternoon tea somewhere, but we don't drink caffeine. I'm wondering if tea places offer caffeine free teas. Thanks!
