Tart Cranberry Pie

I have to ask - what do you with the extra syrup that you strain out of the cranberry-pear-sugar mix? DO NOT throw it away - it is yummy! I haven't figured out yet what to do with it (over ice cream, pancakes/waffles, even as a ham glaze (?) - but it is just too tasty to toss). I think I will try to reduce it and thicken it some more, and put it on some toast in the morning for a little sweet treat.

Best use of Gorgonzola/Blue Cheese

No one has mentioned this, but blue cheese goes really well with fresh garden tomatoes! I make a tomato sandwich and just put blue cheese dressing on both sides of the bread - delicious - must try it with gorganzola, I am sure this would be a great combination

I have to report that the Channel Cafe has the best egg sandwich that I have tried so far - I was reluctant to go with the sandwich, but it was fresh cooked, moist, tasty and cheap (2.50). It it the only place that has changed my mind about egg sandwiches in the area. The only problem is that they open at 8 AM. I recently tried the egg sandwich at Flour and for the price (5.95) there was no comparison.

Roasted Rhubarb Compote

I can't wait to try this - my home grown rhubarb is starting to grow, and this should be a perfect way to use it - you can only make so many strawberry-rhubarb pies. in fact I bet this recipe would taste great with some strawberries thrown in.

real breakfast

Thanks, it looks like this place could be worth the extra trip to try out. Pretty much what I was looking for and I bet it gets very crowded at times.

This was one of the places I had in mind to try. I saw good and bad reports about them on other websites, so I wasn't sure. I think being open 24 hours, you can catch them at different times and have completely different experiences. Have you ever tried FIgaro's on Beach Street?

You are right about the Drydock Cafe for lunch, very good food and reasonably priced - never thought of them for breakfast, but will check it out and keep an eye out for Pete's at the same time. Thank you.

Thanks, I did try Elephant and Castle this morning, and it worked very well for what we needed today, close to our appointment, good food with a nice atmosphere, and peaceful in the morning so the pub was not in full swing.
I like Flour, but I did not think they had too much to offer for breakfast besides pastries. I think I will give Channel Cafe a try, as they are right on my way to work. Thanks again.

real breakfast

I work in the Seaport area, but arrive in town via South Station. When I get in early enough to have a decent breakfast, all I can find is breakfast sandwich places, but no place where I can sit down and enjoy a real breakfast, you know, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, whatever is cooked without a microwave and is served on a real plate. Any good spots?

The Simple Chef's Tex-Mex Green Plantain Tostada

I love tostadas, and have only eaten plaintains once or twice before as a snack, so I am excited to find a recipe that combines the two into a great little meal. Can't wait to try this!
