Zengarden's Profile
Best Maple syrup Ever
Is it affordable to us mere mortals or is it priced for the gods? Sounds like something that I would love to try.
2011 Food and Resto CLOSINGS
Pikilia, the old Mr. Greek at Danforth and Carlaw, has a For Lease sign in the window.
Gluten Free Toronto
Went to Grindhouse Burgers the other night and noticed that you can have your burger with a gluten free bun for an extra $1.
ISO Seville Oranges downtown or on subway line
Thanks everyone. Really appreciate your help.
Brunch at Broadview
Ditto on New York. You think it might be a scary greasy spoon but the food is honest.
ISO Seville Oranges downtown or on subway line
Making marmalade but can't seem to find Seville oranges. Some help please?
Sweet Tooth Pastry Shop (Danforth)
If anyone has a group buy coupon, they should just contact the company and explain that the establishment is no more so that they can receive credit for use on something else.
Dundas & University in Toronto - best lunch meeting spot?
Midi Bistro on McCaul Street just south of Baldwin Street. You will be able to hear your guests speak and the food is good.

Urban Restaurant on King Street has a for lease sign on the window. Just noticed this when I was in the area yesterday.
what to use if not using beer in brisket recipe
Appreciate the suggestions. Thank you everyone.
what to use if not using beer in brisket recipe
Shared a recipe with my cousin who has two little kids in the family. The brisket recipe contains one bottle of beer. If she decides not to use the beer, what should she use instead?
New Pizzeria Libretto location opening on the Danforth
the old Myth location never opened. It looks like there might be remodeling happening there but as far as I can tell, it is vacant.
Not trying to start any rumours but that would be an ideal location for PL. Please!
Sweet Tooth Pastry Shop (Danforth)
Just doesn't sound like they are putting in any stock for customers. Sounds like there might be an issue with paying their suppliers if there are no goods available for customers.
cheap and cheerful around Main and Danforth
Just for clarification, does this mean that there is only one set dish on order for every customer? Sounds great except for the egg.
Sweet Tooth Pastry Shop (Danforth)
And today's sign on the shut door stated that they were closed due to low stock. Not good. Or is it?
2011 Food and Resto CLOSINGS
Kokkino on the Danforth. Sign on the door seems to suggest that chattels have been seized because operators were not paying rent.

Sweet Tooth Pastry Shop (Danforth)
I've never seen anyone actually in there eating sweets or pastries. I have only witnessed a woman with a nicely tied box from the shop on the subway. The Danforth really needs a Mill Street Bakery or something like that.
BOBBETTE & BELLE - macaroons
Walked by their old location on Jones and saw that it was empty and was sad that a small business was down for the count.
Glad to hear that they have improved their location.
Cheap Eats Around George Brown College (King/Jarvis)
Perhaps also consider keeping costs down by bringing your own drink/botttled water. Just a thought. And yes, there are lots of interesting choices to be had in the Market.
Prom venues or any recommended venues in Toronto please HELP!
How about the Arcadian Room which is on the 8th floor of the Bay at Yonge and Queen? Have also been to a prom there. Special occasion spot for sure. There is also the Palais Royale which is on the Lakeshore.
If you pick a Thursday night, that might be better than trying for a Friday for any of these venues. Not sure how your school would think about it. Other than these suggestions, you might want to think about banquet halls.

Prom venues or any recommended venues in Toronto please HELP!
What about the Liberty Grand? Outside of the Entertainment District, experienced with all large venues, and good security detail. Lots of parking.
Other considerations would be the traditional banquet halls in industrial areas but even though the halls are quite nice, it still feels like you are so far removed from everything.
do you ask guests about food sensitivities and allergies
Thanks for your thoughtful and encouraging replies. I have had situations where friends suffer from celiac disease or they happen to keep Kosher. So I try to do my best to ensure that they can enjoy foods.
The occasion that I am hosting next is a bit more unpredictable. A group of older people who used to teach at my elementary school when I was a child. I am hosting this with another ex student; should be fun.
do you ask guests about food sensitivities and allergies
Having a buffet gathering for 50 people and I don't know their food preferences or any allergies that they may have.
Would it be good form to send everyone a note to ask if they can identify any food sensitivities prior to the gathering?
Droste Cocoa Powder
Christmas is coming and for those of you seeking Droste Cocoa Powder, I found that www.dutchproducts, 10 Wilmot (north of Leslie and Hwy 7) has it for $7.99 per large box.
when far from home, what foods do you miss/crave the most?
Just returned from a trip to Europe and realized that the one type of food that I missed the most when I'm away is dim sum. It's not necessarily my favourite food but I guess it is one of those comfort foods that I love more than I care to admit.
What do you crave when you are far from home?
planning for reunion of former teachers, approx. 50
I am organizing a luncheon for 50 ex staff of a school that I attended as a student. Trying to keep things easy as possible so looking at cold cuts, cheese platters, bread baskets, samosas, little squares, etc.
Any suggestions to make sure that I do not run out of time in setting up or run out of food?
I am doing this with a team of 5 volunteers on the morning of the school reunion.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Dutch bakeries and/or Stroopwafels
Thank you. I didn't think that I would enjoy Dutch foods but just returned from Amsterdam and I like it.
silicone baking sheets
I like Silpat but made the mistake of buying inexpensive silicon no name brands. Hate the no name ones. They are too thick and cookies never take on a brown colour.
self-catering suggestions while staying in central London
Will be staying in Central London and will have a kitchen facility to help keep the costs of travel down. Would anyone have any suggestions for where to pick up food or ingredients near Piccadilly Circus?
