Non-traditional "Austiny" venue for wedding ceremony and reception

Barr Mansion. I was married there in April 3 years ago, organic venue, beautiful gardens and indoor spaces, people are STILL talking about the food...

Central Texas small town restaurants - any recommendations?

Dick passed away last fall. The place is still going strong, his son is running the bar now. He isn't quite the character that Dick was, but we still enjoyed dinner there a few months ago.

Christmas dinner?

Anyone know what nice restaurants are going to be serving dinner on Christmas day? The restaurant here at our hotel is closed (Judges' Hill) and I need to find a place for a guest!

good restaurants, casual dress?

We are staying just south of Times Square, but are willing to go a pretty good distance.

good restaurants, casual dress?

My husband and I are coming to Mahattan (his first visit) in two weeks, and are looking for some good restaurants that might have relaxed dress codes. We are from Austin, TX and are used to wearing jeans everywhere! We are willing to bring something nicer, but would prefer not to have to pack too heavy, either.
So, any don't miss places with a casual vibe? Jeans or khakis? We will eat just about anything, but can get great steaks here, so seafood, any international cuisuine, sushi...Italian if it isn't really heavy.

Uchi - Austin

We love Uchi. Last time we went we hadn't been there in a few months, and sat at the sushi bar. The chef NEXT to us remembered us from our last visit, and he even remembered what we had eaten! I'd say that was a pretty great experience, and it is one of many reasons we will go back over and over.

Best Tres Leches cake in Austin

I had Tres Leches from Habana Calle 6 this weekend, and it was NOT yellow cake...it was a yummy white cake (maybe a bit heavier than sponge?) with thick white frosting (not whipped cream) sprinkled with cinnamon. Gooey milky goodness on the plate, my DH and I practically licked it!

Cedar Park Restaurants

Hayashi Sushi just opened in CP. I have been to the one in Georgetown and really enjoyed it.

Best Restaurant for My Birthday

Jeffrey's tasting menu gets my vote! Depending on what you call high priced, it is a bit more than Uchi, which I also love. But it is SO NOISY there, doesn't seem conducive to an intimate meal.

Need last minute help!

Today is my first anniversary, and I am in charge of dinner reservations. I am overwhelmed by choices. I am considering Mirabelle (love the food, not very romantic), Siena (very romantic, great service, food a little heavy), Jeffery's (pricy but fabulous), McCormick and Schmick's...I could go on and on. We wanted to go to Uchi, but the only reservation was at 5:30 and I am too young for an early bird dinner!
Anyone have any ideas? Point me in the right direction?

Disappointing meal at Wink: is it (still) one of Austin’s ten best?

The chocolate dessert at Jeffery's is called Chocolate Intemperance. LOVE IT! We went for our anniversary in January and had a marvelous meal and exceptional service. We were a bit worried at first, we said it was our anniversary when we made the reservation that afternoon, and when we were seated next to a loud couple in a small room it was bad. DH spoke to the host and we were moved to a private room where we were treated to attentive service (but not intrusive). I'd go again any day!

Paila Peruvian?

I contacted them through their MySpace page and the answer is that they are looking for a new location. They will post info there when they find one!

Sushi Quest

We go to Umi's frequently, it is a great value and the sushi is always fresh. Uchi we can't go to as often because of the cost, but we love it....super fresh, creative. We took our 11 y/o daughter out for her b-day and couldn't get a table at Uchi without an hour wait at opening time, so off to Kenichi we went. It was very good, and considering we were prepared for Uchi, seemed reasonably priced! We tried Hayashi in Georgetown last fall and found it to be pretty good, it was fairly new so the service was a bit shaky. I'd go back, though.
