Montreal's Top 3 Restaurants

max, don't you mean '3 petits bouchons'? and i second that recommendation, the place is great for both wine and food

Popchips in Montreal?

i just bought a bag at the alexis-nihon pharmaprix, they only had BBQ flavor available. First time i tried it, not too shabby

Popchips in Montreal?

i work close by. i'll check during my break if there are any

Restaurant Openings in 2011

it's a brunch/breakfast place (ala chez cora). I went to the one in the south shore, it's actually not too bad, their waffles are quite good

BEST OF 2010

AFAIK, Qing hua (or Maison du nord) don't have Xiao long bao. The only place that has something that resembles it is noodle factory in chinatown.

Michelin *** in the province?

if you are looking for creative food, the ever so popular Au Pied De Cochon might fit your bill. If you need recommendation, there are over 20 threads in this forum discussing about the in and outs of this restaurant.

Lunch in Old Montreal

Bar et Boeuf (http://www.baretboeuf.com/ ) opens at 11:30 for lunch and has tartare. L'appartement might also fit your bill, if not you can go up the hill and hit andiamo.

Where's the best burger in Montreal

i personally enjoy the bison burger at McKibbons (Bishop, between maisonneuve and ste-catherine)

Jack Astor's

the same can be said about the south shore (Brossard). Barbies, Jack Astor (well Greenfield park.. which is next to Brossard), Chenoys (it gets brownie points for being opened 25 hours), Newport buffet. I am usually at a loss when i have friends that asks me what is good to eat in Brossard. That being said, like ios94 pointed out, the suburbian area is filled with family so these "family style" joint is the better bang for the buck when you have younger kids who don't really care/know about food.

closures for holidays

is garde manger going to be closed for the holidays?

TonkOtsu ramen in Montreal?

kazu has good ramen too, but only available during lunch

pizza cones

so i just had this as a "snack". It's.. not the best thing out there but i wouldn't call it disgusting. It's not worth 5.06 though, i would pay top 2.50 for it. My biggest beef is that the crust is semi hard, and it taste like a very cheap pizza crust (reminds me of the 49c pizza spot near conU about 10 years ago). The stuffing kind of masked everything, but would not bother going there again, even if i was starving. I would rather go to McDo. But at least I can say i tried it.

Best Kimchi Chigae in Mtl

my korean coworker told me it's pretty good (the one on st-denis, not the one on ste-cath), although she claims she can make better at home lol

Noodle bar - are there any?

i agree with your comment on ichiban.. for something that is supposed to be #1 (ichiban means #1), it's quite number 10.... probably powder ramen, noodles were overcooked and soggy and i had the exact same experience with the service (water spoiled all over my table.. maybe we had the same waiter lol)

Apres-dinner cocktails?

actually i like it that it's "hidden" from the main street, it's more of a hidden gem that needs to be found.

Food events (2010)

the staff/organizers

Food events (2010)

i showed up at 3:30, the line went out up near Vargas's door. I was almost next go go in, and they said there were no more cupcakes and they were giving out free cupakes (that was around 4:15). My friends and I decided to force our way up and still pay 10$ just in case (beside, we are doing a donation), went in and there are HUNDREDS of cupcake left. This one vendor said she had 300 more behind her to sell... at 5pm, they were still selling tickets. Great thing about that is that alot of the vendors were doing "two for one" special. I had my diabetes sugar attack, it was worth it ahhaa

the truth about poutine?

to be honest with you, i've had poutine at several fast food joint, and it's probably one of the best. Obviously you can't really compare it to la banquise or a poutine fois gras at PDC, but for fast food quality, it kicks McDo, Burger King and even Valentine's butt.

Brit and Chips

i work close by and walk by every evening on the way to the metro. It is significantly less occupied in the evening. there shouldn't be a reason for a line up.

A tourist comes to Montreal..... Scenario

I would probably bring them to "overrated" yet "iconic" montreal landmarks: schwartz, la banquise, st-viateur/fairmount bagels. I might throw in la paryse for good measure too, but i've never been though. Granted they are not the most gastronomic restaurants, but those are restaurants that are unique to Montreal (along with PDC, but that has already been mentioned)

Something special close to Metropolis

Where are your friends from?

for vietnamese food, there is ong ca can that isn't too too far from there. their 7 course beef meal was quite good (granted last time i've been there, it has been over 2 years)

What is the name of this restaurant (Montreal)?

the only place i can think of is M:brgr, but i doubt that's the place

Toucheh? Dinner tonight in NDG/Westmount

My friends found the food to be quite amazing, however, I found it rather average (for example, their steak, they pour this very thick tomato base sauce, which for me is a turn off since i love my steak plain with spices), nothing to write home about, but the BYOB is always a welcome addition, and the staff is very friendly. I hope you don't plan on going a date afterwards, because they LOVE their garlic.

Can Anyone suggest a must-try restaurant in Pointe Claire ?

"go back into traffic": what direction are you heading? Towards downtown? If you are not going towards downtown, you can try to venture "off island" and hit smoke meat pete

Drinks and cake near Chinatown

there are 3:

- The one on laurier (and parc)
- St-Laurent/Prince Arthur (beside/below/next to rouge club)
- St-Denis (near berri)

Cheap beer ( I mean really cheap price )

there is one near berri uqam metro (it's been open for a while now). I believe it's st-hubert or a block afterwards and they opened one in brossard (if they wanted a hidden place, they did a good job.. it's in the middle of Brossard's industrial park!).

Another place with very cheap beer is... i can't believe i'm saying this... peel pub (well once upon a time), but with the urban legend of recycled beer, i try to avoid that place at all cost.

Drinks and cake near Chinatown

with the st-laurent open, is the one near berri uqam location less packed?

Drinks and cake near Chinatown

i've been to le local. The desserts aren't THAT great, nothing to write home about. The closest i can think of is jardin nelson for sweet pancakes and have a few drinks with it

Chowdown in Singapore

I just came back from my 3 weeks asia trip and I have to say, i had a BLAST with singaporian food. I am coming back to Montreal with an addiction to kaya toast and prata (prata bomb is seriously the BOMB!). My cousin brought me to tons of places. Here are some of the highlights

- Chili Crab at Palm Beach (apparently i was frowned upon by my hostel staff for going to an expensive place)
- Katong Laksa at Best Katong Laksa (something like that i forgot the name.. i have a picture somewhere in the 1000+ pics i took)
- Prata (various places)
- Kaya toast at Ya Kun
- Tulang, gong gong, black carrot cake at newton hawker center
- Chicken Rice at Yet Con Hainanese Chicken Rice
- Durian stall in geylang

that's all i can remember for now. But I had a very memorable time in Singapore. I can't wait to come back and eat more!

Soup Tulang - Singapore Bone Soup

omg.. i just came back from singapore and on my final day, my cousin brought me to a food hawker center and i had that. It's really amazing. I would love to know if there are any decent singaporian restaurant (unfortunately my money would go on NO).
