Cocktail Parties
When you're invited to a cocktail party, do you expect cocktails (liquor) to be served? We went to one recently where beer and wine only were served. My feeling is that it is OK to not serve liquor but please don't put "Cocktail Party" on the invitation. I'm sure you'll let me know if I'm wrong. Cheers!

How to eat fresh tomatoes?
I had to refrigerate some leftover tomato slices after a cookout Monday. Tonight I took them out to sit on the counter for an hour. Added salt, pepper, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Very tasty and a good way to serve tomatoes if they've had to be refrigerated.
Have any of you old-timers ever had a tomato sandwich made with salt rising (risen) bread? It's one of my favorite childhood memories. Yummy!

Graffiti's Bistro, Southern Lights, and Liberty Oak all have good cheeseburgers. For fast food, Cookout's is very good, and 5 Guys has opened in Friendly Center.

Why is "Pours a strong drink" considered such a positive bar review comment?
"Pours a strong drink" is important to anyone, such as myself, who only orders scotch (or any other liquor) on the rocks. In this situation, one is most interested in getting one's money's worth, not in how deftly a bartender mixes a "girlie" drink.
Gate City Chop House closed?
Yes, Chop House Grill on Pisgah Church Rd. is now Graffiti's Bistro. We've eaten there several times, including last night.
The menu is similar to Chop House Grill...less expensive than Gate City Chop House. They appear to be doing a good business, and Larry is always there, at least during dinner hours.

To confuse things even more, Lexington-style is pork shoulder, Eastern-style is whole hog.

Yes, sadly they're all gone in Greensboro: Gate City Chop House, Laddie and Dukes, and Chop House Grill.

I've never heard of one. You want Eastern NC style if you're close to I-95.
Peanuts in soda?
I put salted peanuts in RC colas decades ago. If I did it now, it would be dry roasted peanuts in a Diet Coke. Doubt if it would be as tasty.

If you don't mind a brief detour, take I-40 W to 210 W to 50 N. Stephenson's BBQ will be about 2 miles on your right. A plate of excellent Eastern NC bbq, slaw, great fresh-cut fries, hushpuppies and iced tea will cost less than $8. Should be about 30 minutes R/T from I-95.

Chop House Grille in Greensboro closed. Not sure about the one in Burlington.

I knew there were no facilities, so we washed our hands before we got there . But several other diners wanted to wash theirs and were uncomfortable. What's creepy is eating burgers with dirty hands. So Mass. has no such law?
BTW, I saw a couple of people pull out their own sanitizers.

My wife and I really enjoyed our burgers there yesterday but were wondering: Doesn't Massachusetts require sit down restaurants to have restrooms? At the very least, it would be nice of them to put bottles of hand sanitizer on the tables with the ketchup and mustard. Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

Any restaurant in NC that grinds their own meat can cook their burgers to any temperature they wish.
Chapel Hill/Durham Birthday Dinner Suggestions
Seven of us dined at Nana's for the first time last night. Food and service were excellent. Yukon gold and vidalia onion vichisoisse...yum! As you know, they have a great wine list, but I enjoyed a Belgian beer on draft.
None of us had room for dessert.

Keep it in the fridge, loosely wrapped in foil. One hour prior to next use, place on kitchen counter.
