A proper poboy and great cajun & creole cooking

Do we really know that all of this seafood comes from New Orleans? The shrimp season in the gulf is very limited and I highly doubt they are paying the 20 + dollars a pound to pay for US shrimp and losing money charging the prices that they do. 80% of the seafood eaten in the US is imported and in terms of shrimp 95% is imported.....

Steamers on the shore

Try the Inlet Cafe across from windansea. Their steamers are great and they start the meal off with a creamy bucket of cole slaw and warm bread. It is also right on the river so you can have a nice view as well.

The tea vendor is ducky life tea....a local tea vendor out of asbury park who carries fair trade organic teas from all around the world. Her teas are amazing!!!!

wedding rehearsal places close to new brunswick

Hotoke on George Street has an upstairs section that is open and overlooks the entire restaurant. If you are looking for something a bit more casual try harvest moon. They also have a private room upstairs that easily holds more than 20 people. Good Luck.

:) Crab Cakes Anyone?

Well, to be honest I didn't post about my lunch for my fear of going against the trends of the Chow Gods.....but if you so desire, and having seen me there, I will. I had the ALT sandwich. Avocado Lettuce and Tomato finished with a creamy goat cheese spread. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Mind you it was Lunch and they were clearly overstaffed, but I was impressed nonetheless. My mother had the tuna nicoise sandwich, it was served openface and was well dressed, seasoned perfectly and had an ample amount of fresh tuna. I'll be back.

Funny, I know. I have this wierd, ocd-like thing with spelling, and as I started to spell c-o-l-o-s-s-a-l (well, I just had to look up at yours, because I actually spelled it with 2 l's!) so, I just wrote the jumbo. Why did I think I could slip that by!! As I said, I have had conversations with some people there who let me know that they didn't apply the usual "mark-up" to that dish and the kitchen often sends it out to impress.

Restaurant between Allentown and Somerville

It's funny, after posing my quesiton to you, I did a bit of research here on Chow regarding Gladstone Tavern and saw some of the posts regading these CEO's in Training. It's a shame, I love the location, and think they did a great job restoring Chatfields. Oh Well.

Regarding the area, Have you been to Le Petit Chateau as of late?? I

mmgpsych,

I should rephrase my response. I grew up, as well as worked, right around the corner and know the area well. I dined there on occasion years back and had wonderful meals. The owners were always very attentive, and when he heard I was in the industry, allowed me to trail in the kitchen for fun. I have not been back for a few years, and have heard that they expanded a bit (extra catering room etc.), therefore I can't respond to your experiences. I have been to Cafe Azzurro, and love the place. Obviously Due Terre is a gem, no one can disagree with that. Have you been to The Gladstone Tavern recently? I am always curious to know how they are doing.

Charleys in long branch makes a pretty decent crab cake. Lots of lump meat with minimal filler. The sauce was neither too hot nor too heavy.

Please help!!! Need rec for b-day dinner in Somerset NJ. Anything nice.

To be honest I can't speak for the Tewksbury Inn as I have yet to dine there. My support for the Pluckemin Inn comes from the fact that their products are so fresh. They promote local New Jersey produce and meats and the flavor difference is evident when comparing it to the mass manufactured frozen food that many restaurants "claim" is fresh. Splash of Thai is wonderful, I agree with you on that. I guess I am judging the entire dining experience from the greeting, to the interior design, to the silver on the table, the plates, wine service, linen..... This is where I feel Pluckemin Inn trumps the rest.

And isn't Pluckemin part of somerset county??

New Farmers Market - Long Branch - Thursdays

I agree, I go to this market every week. The turn out however is disappointing. In reference to woodland farms, they are about 35 days ahead of the regular nj growing season, so they can offer some items that may not appear regularly in the monmouth county farmer's markets. Also don't forget about DR PICKLE who has shown for the past two weeks and has great pickled products!!

If you are celebrating a special event definitely go to the pluckemin inn in bedminster. This is by far the best restaurant in Somerset NJ. This is a guarantee.

New Brunswick 'Fat-Cats'

I agree that the grease trucks of New Brunswick offer a delicacy to the NJ Dining scene. I would have to suggest the following fat cat creation, it is somewhat of a spin-off of the sandwich Adam Sandler made in the movie Spanglish, but with a bit more New Brunswick......

Sourdough Grilled, 2 fried eggs, american cheese, waffle fries, pork roll, spinach artichoke dip, and mayonaisse......

Give it a shot.

Are there any regional foods unique to Idaho and Oregon?

Definitely try the huckleberries as well as the mount ranier cherries. I love steelhead from Oregon as well. If you are traveling through Mt Hood, try and hit a restaurant that serves locally foraged mushrooms, as the region is known for its amazing chanterelles. Obviously the coast is great for dungeness crab. If heading through the rogue river valley, be sure to hit up some of the local artisan breweries as well.

Have Fun!!

Special Occasion Restaurant For Sunday Night

To second the Chatam notion, another great restaurant is Restaurant Serenade. But as a chef who has personally seen David Drake work the stove, I have to say restaurant David Drake. The man is a culinary Genius. I have never dined at Nicholas, however, those people who I know who have worked there lead me to believe that like David Drake's restaurants, Nicholas offers a level of excellence that is virtually
un-matchable here in NJ.

In terms of the pluckemin inn you might want to look into their menu for Sunday's as I know they offer a different "Sunday Supper" menu Sunday Night last I checked.

Or.....just go over the top and check out the new Alain Ducasse NY post (read the review in this past weeks NY Times dining section).
