Lunch in Orange?
Too funny. Yeah, the tables are fairly close together. And it can get pretty noisy inside. If it's nice, I like to sit outisde.
Spago questions
Thanks for the replies! I went last night with friends visiting from Belgium. They wanted to try Spago and the Polo Lounge. :)
We were fine with dressy casual and the waiter suggested an entree of 4 small plates of vegetables prepared with different sauces. It was OK. I went for my friends and they were happy. The only "celebrity" we saw was Jesse Jackson but we had a nice time. Or waiter was very nice and allowed us the time to eat European style - lots of time between courses. Thanks again for the replies.
Lunch in Orange?
I work in Orange and enjoy Citrus Grille. It's in Old Town Orange. Address: 122 N. Glassell St.
I also like Rutabegorz at 264 N. Glassell. It's a funky little place with an interesting menu.
Spago questions
Sorry if this has been covered. I searched the boards and didn't see a past post.
Is the dress code on early Saturday night (5:45) really jacket and tie for men?
Any vegetarian recommendations? Nothing jumped off the menu when I checked the website.
Thanks!
"self order" or "to go" food in san diego
I'll add a pizza takeout suggestion - Lefty's at 39th & Myrtle in North Park. They do deep dish or thin crust and offer pizza by the slice. I usually hate deep dish because the crust tends to be too doughy for me but Lefty's is really good. My favorites are the spinach-mushroom and the veggie pizza. My friend swears by the plain ole pepperoni.
Warning: although they have seating, I've never been able to score a table. Plan to take it with you.
Need to Impress a Friend Next Monday-- San Diego
I'd probably do Island Prime. If it's a nice night, you could sit outdoors.
Alexander's - San Diego (North Park)
I went with 2 friends last weekend. Very friendly and kind staff. The hostess even found a table for a single person at the bar so the 3 of us could sit there while waiting for our table.
We shared baked feta appetizer (to die for!) and wonderfully crusty bread. We had a couple of glasses of zin and one of us had sangria. All very good.
For dinner, my friends ordered baked spaghetti and meat lasagna. Upon the recommendation of the server, I ordered a vegetarian linguine dish (I think it was called Linguine de Kathleen). My friends ate all of their food but said they would order something else next time. I did not care for my dish and neither did my friends. I ate a few bites and stopped. When the server was clearing, she asked if I wanted to take the rest home and I said no. She said, "You didn't like it, did you?" I said no, I'm sorry but I didn't. She was nice but didn't offer another dish in its place and did not take it off the bill.
I would go back but am not ready to recommend it to friends. It would have been so easy for the server to offer me something else. Also, from others I have heard that the pizza is amazing!
Good Buritto in San Diego
If you're ever in University Heights-Kensington-Hillcrest area, try El Zarape on Park Blvd near Adams. They have a few tables but it's mostly takeout. I love their veggie burrito and my friends love the grilled chicken.
