best pizza in calgary?

Take Sophie's Pizza off my list. Last night was the last time we will order from them for sure. Since they changed their menu, opened a new location and increased their prices (they seem to do that quite often) the quality has went way downhill. I can no longer justify paying almost $30 for one 12' pizza! Toppings have been reduced drastically as I found about 3 flakes of onion on the whole pizza. One of the slices had 2 pieces of ground beef, one bit of tomato and almost no cheese. This is supposed to be "Greek Style" pizza with loads of toppings and cheese. Their crust is now thinner and does not have the same great crispy texture it used to have. Looks like the former family run business with the old Spiros recipes has been replaced with a chain like look and taste to their product. Avoid.

Prairie Food Trucks - A Possibility?

Not really. The Alley burgers will not be $26.00 or even close to that (when I was at Charcut the burger came to $13.00 not sure where you get $26.00?) Most of the trucks mentioned above are original food trucks with the exception of Alley Burger and Fiasco. Some of the best and most well known Food trucks in LA and Portland are extensions of past and currnet restaurant ideas so really I have no idea what you mean by your post.

CHARCUT Roast House Calgary

Had my birthday meal here a few weeks ago and was blown away. Not a huge prime rib fan but I decided to try it and was one of the most tender and flavourful cuts of meat I have ever had the pleasure to eat. It had an incredible light smoky flavour with just the right amount of fat for prime rib. All the sides were good especially the poutine with real cheese curds and a delicious truffle gravy. It was expensive but the quality and service you receive makes it worth it in my books. Connie still comes out of the kitchen to talk to each table after service which is a really nice touch. They also serve AMAZING coffee here, my mother was so impressed she wants to go back just for the coffee!

5 Guys Burgers in Calgary?

Gold Rush town? LOL not sure what that means. As someone born and raised here this statement baffles me. As for Peter's the quality seems to have dropped when the original owners sold the place and retired. As a kid and young adult I can remember the patties being juicy and the Shakes were made with real fruit vrs the syrups they use now. It has always been a different type of burger with no lettuce or tomato, almost like a sloppy Joe like another poster had said but it still beats a 5 guys or any other chain burger in this city any day. Double cheese with extra sauce is the way to go at Peters :)

Peanut Butter - Calgary

Yeah they said Sobeys and Co-Op but I had no luck at the Strathcona Sobeys either. The search continues!

Peanut Butter - Calgary

They have a Facebook group so I posed the question about where to buy in Calgary. I mentioned that I scoured the Co Op on Richmond Road and could not find it. Hopefully I can pass on some good news when the get back to me.

The Bank

Crowd-The Cast Of Jersey Shore, Calgary style. The only people in the place older than 25 are the staff.

Music-Depends on the night but they tend to play House/Progressive and Trance on the weekends. No rock or country is played but some nights they do play a bit of top 40/rap. They so also bring in DJ's from the UK and Europe and on those nights cover can run up to $40.00/person and the tickets can sell out. Might want to call ahead to check if there is a special event on the night you want to go.

Drink Prices-Expensive

overall if your into fluffy electronic music, long lines, expensive drinks and copious amounts of hair gel, this is the place to go.

Boyd's Seafood Restaurant is closing (YYC)

My go to place for great Fish and Chips is gone :( I had noticed on my last visit that portion size and fish quality had went down quite a bit. It was never very busy even on Friday nights so I guess im not surprised.

best indian food calgary

My trip to Delhi Darbars new location last night on 16th AVE reaffirmed they are the best Indian in the city. Had the wonderfully complex "Railway Mutton Curry" which is a bone in lamb dish with potatoes and a rich spicy sauce. They make sure to ask the heat level you want on every dish, even my starter of a creamy and delicious Mulligatawny soup was customised to my taste and ordered extra spicy. Skip the over priced and underwhelming Namskar and walk down the block to Delhi Darbar, you won't regret it.

5 Guys Burgers in Calgary?

Thought the burger was quite good. I went with the suggestion not to go crazy on the toppings and I think this is the way to go. I also noticed that my burger was wrapped in the foil super tight which kind of squished the bun a bit but the burger did keep its shape. Only complaint would be the cheese, I would prefer the cheese to be melted on the patty while being grilled instead of applied cold after cooking. As far as the fires go I though the Cajun style were awful. The seasoning was over powering so I only had a few but next time I would try them plain. Place was crowded and very busy but in the end it only took about 20 minutes to get our order which was impressive considering how many people were lined up to order/waiting to pick up their order. On a side note I'm sure Fatburger are less than impressed with another specialty burger joint opening right across the street in the same shopping complex. They were dead at 7PM on a Friday night.

best pizza in calgary?

I put A Pizza Plus ahead of Sophies, Atlas, Nicks, Spiros ect ect ect when it comes to "Greek Style" Pizza in this city. They can continue to offer top quality Pizza and rock bottom prices while scareing off the snobs with their 2 for 1 branding :)

best pizza in calgary?

I have to stand up for A Pizza plus (on Bow Trail) as they are certainly not to be lumped into the conversation of crappy chains like CPU. The same family has run the shop since 1990 and I have been ordering from them since I was in grade school. They use fresh dough made every day and their sauce is fantastic. They use probably the highest quality cheese of any shop in this city and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The prices are insanely cheap (22,00 for 2 12" pies) and the pizza is awesome.

Hummus in Calgary

I'm loving the PC Masala Hummus at Superstore. It's Hummus kicked up with a bunch of Indian spices and a touch of honey. Really yummy.

YYC - Where to find good BBQ ribs?

+3 for Holy smoke....their pulled pork is amazing. Would not recommend Palomino or Big T's

Chili Peppers - YYC

Depends on which kind of Chillies you are looking for. Any grocery store like Safeway or Sobeys would carry your standard Serrano type peppers. If the chilli is more exotic you might want to check out an Asian/Indian grocer as your co worker had mentioned.

Diners,Drive-ins, and Dives Calgary.

John have you ever watched the show? I can recall just off the top of my head and from last season alone stops to authentic Mexican, Peruvian, El Salvadorian, Italian and German restaurants. The show has no boundaries on cuisines and certainly does not focus on "huge plates of fried things" as you were saying.

Grocery stores near the strip

Just stayed at the Signature myself (great hotel) and I went to the Wallgreens on the strip which is just a few minutes walk heading North. They have a good selection of snacks, drinks and frozen items at decent prices when compared to buying things inside the hotels. They had a limited selection of fresh fruit but you could find everyting else your looking for and it also has a large pharmacy and toiletry selection if you forget someting. By the way each tower has it's own pool at the Signature which is great as the main pool at MGM was so crowded we could not stand it at all. Great service at the pool's and free bottled water is available at the finess centers which you will have access to as well.

The BottleHouse Beer Parlour - Calgary (Kensington)

Not an original idea on the Colt 45. MING on 17th has been serving it for years and it comes wrapped in a paper bag which is the only way to drink a Colt!

Eat at Tiffin's or DIE!

This place is right by my work and I have been here quite a few times. Great prices and the freshest roti in the city for sure. I tend to stay away from their butter chicken which is quite bland I find. Just wish they put a little more heat into their curries as they are all quite mild. The cabbage curry which is not available every day is a real standout, I have begged more than once for their recipe! I'm always in a rush and have not had a chance to order the beef ribs but they look yummy.

Freshly-made falafel in Calgary!

I was very disappointed to see that FK had closed but tried a Shawarma at Pharaoh's hoping it would be as good or better than FK. Sorry to say it was the WORST Shawarma I have ever had. The Chicken was so heavily over seasoned that the first bit tasted like pure salt it was just overpowering. After a few bites I had to stop as the flavour of the meat was so terrible I could not eat any more. I might have to give them the benefit of the doubt as they had just opened but overall the place looks a bit shabby since the new owner took over and the Shawarma was awful. It's a shame because I often went to FK for a late night bite and the food was consistently fantastic at that location :(
