Bilbao/San Sebastian – Feedback Requested

Thanks to all for your advice and suggestions - we just got back from the trip to Spain and everything was even better than expected (and expectations were high). We did wind up taking a taxi to/from Extebarri, which was expensive, but for us, definitely worth it to fully enjoy the experience.

We found that enough spots were open on Monday afternoon/evening to keep us happy (including Astelana, Bar La Cepa and Gandarias).

It is hard to pick a favorite out of all of the spots that we visited, there were no disappointments on this trip. In San Sebastian, I would definitely recommend spending some time in the pintxos bars in Gros as well as in Parte Vieja.

i HAVE RESERVATIONS AT ARZAK, MUGARITZ, ZUBEROA, ETXEBARRI, AKELARRE, AND MARTIN BERASATEGUI! HELP!!???

Aleta - I appreciate your advice and suggestions. I understand that there is a risk that a taxi driver may wind up charging us for the round trip, and I will be prepared for that risk and hope to get lucky that day. Thanks again for your advice (both here and on my other post)!

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I am glad to hear that the restaurant will call a taxi for the trip back, that was my biggest concern. I definitely don't want to miss the experience.

I appreciate the review that you posted on your trip. We are planning to have lunch at Extebarri, Akellare and Arzak and are really looking forward to it!

sdiddy - I am planning a similar trip and I know it's going to be really pricey, but we are considering taking a taxi from Bilbao to Extebarri (and back again) as well. I know you mentioned you don't remember the cost - I am hoping maybe you remember the logistics of the taxi. Did you have to pay for a round-trip ride in both directions? Also, did you just have the restaurant call a taxi for you after the meal to take you back? Thanks so much!

Bilbao/San Sebastian – Feedback Requested

Thanks so much for the replies and advice so far. We're planning on heading to Exterbarri during one of our days in Bilbao - does that change anybody's views on how to get there (time and cost)? I've love to hear more suggestions/feedback.

Do you know what time people generally head out for dinner and/or tapas in San Sebastian and Bilbao?

Bilbao/San Sebastian – Feedback Requested

We are visiting Bilbao and San Sebastian in late May/early June. I am hoping for some guidance on days/nights where we don’t have plans, as well as attire and costs of transportation to some of our restaurants.

We currently have lunch reservations at Extebarri, Arzak and Akelarre. What is the general attire at these restaurants?

Also, our hotels have advised us to take taxis to and from the restaurants (we do not want to rent a car so that we can both enjoy wines with meals, etc.). Does anybody have experience with taking taxis and their costs, as well as advice on how complicated it would be to get a taxi back to our hotel?

For our nights in Bilbao/San Sebastian, we plan to eat mostly pinxtos. What time does it generally make sense to head out for a pinxtos crawl, and does anybody have recommendations for lunches or dinner in town that are not pinxtos-focused?

Finally, we arrive to San Sebastian on a Monday afternoon. How hard will it be to find someplace open on Monday afternoon/evening? Any suggestions?

Any advice/suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Recommendations near Intercontinential (waterfront)

Thanks for the recommendations. I would up going to Beehive to drinks on Saturday night pre-dinner, and we had a great time. Great suggestion!

Recommendations near Intercontinential (waterfront)

I am going to be in Boston this weekend (staying at the Intercontinental) and am looking for recommendations for brunch on Sunday (nothing fancy, just solid brunch food) and also a sports bar (or just generally good bar) in the area. I am not sure if this is an area where restaurants/bars tend to be overpriced and touristy, and am hoping to avoid that scene.

Also, on Saturday night, I am going to be heading to the South End to Hamersley's - any recommendations for a place to get a nice cocktail before dinner?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Best mushroom dishes

I love the mushroom lasagna in the front room at Gramercy Tavern. The rich mushroom flavor is incredible.

Reservations at Arzak - what to expect?

How far out can you make reservations at Arzak? I am planning a trip to the area next summer and want to make sure that call at the right now.

Recommendations for visitor from NYC

Not sure where we'll be staying yet; we're planning to go to a Red Sox game during the day but otherwise have no ties to location so may actually decide to stay near wherever we wind up going for dinner. We'll have a car, but would prefer to travel via public transportation or walking while in town.

Recommendations for visitor from NYC

My husband and I will be in Boston for one night in late July and are looking for ideas for dinner. Are there any recommendations for restaurants or gastropubs that are similar in atmosphere, style, food quality to Spotted Pig, Momofuku Ssam or Noodle Bar in NYC? Not necessarily looking for Asian-influenced food, but rather someplace that serves great tasting, somewhat innovative food in a relaxed environment, bar, etc.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Cooking/Wine Classes in Dallas

I am a New York foodie looking to send my two best friends to either a cooking class or a higher end wine/cheese-type pairing class in the Dallas area. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Visit to SF from NYC -- Where to Eat?

My husband and I will be traveling to SF next weekend and are looking for suggestions on where to eat. Our hotel is in the Embarcadero, however, we are okay traveling around the city a bit (prefer walking distance or a short cab ride). We consder ourselves to be fairly knowledge about about the food scene in NY, and are looking for lunch and dinner options at places that are unique to San Francisco with great food at a reasonable price.

On our last trip to SF, we went to Chinatown, had sushi near Union Square, ate at Gary Danko, had chowder in a sourdough bowl at Fisherman's Wharf (yes, we knew it was touristy but had to try it) and went for an Ethiopian/Vegetarian meal as an accomodation to some vegetarian friends.

As far as cuisine preferences, we are fairly open, however, would prefer not to have another vegetarian meal.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Lunch in the Hamptons

I am going to be out on the East End this weekend and am looking for a reasonably priced, "beachy" place to have lunch that isn't closed for the season, preferably somewhere in the East Hampton/Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton area. I normally go to "Lunch" (The Lobster Roll) in Amagensett when I'm out there, but am not looking to drive further east than East Hampton on this trip. I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks!

Best Turkey Burger

I'm a fan of the turkey burger at Westside Brewing Company on the UWS. The burger is nicely seasoned and served on an english muffin. You have the option of regular fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings with it.

Best fried chicken?

Thanks to everybody for their suggestions. I went to Rack and Soul a few nights ago and was disappointed by their fried chicken (which is usually my favorite menu item) so I may have to try Charles. Thanks again!

Philadelphia Restaurant Advice (for former resident)

I used to live in Philly and at that time, some favorite restaurants were Dmitri's, Monks, and most of the Stephen Starr establishments. I'm looking to try a new restaurant which has received top reviews from the critics and insiders (price range of moderate to expensive; any type of cuisine). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!!!

Peking Duck

I am looking for an authentic Peking Duck dinner in Manhattan. Is Peking Duck House the closest I will be able to get? Does anybody have any recommendations aside from what is above? I've been to Shun Lee Palace and Chin-Chin recently and they don't seem to provide the experience I'm looking for.
