I like Maison Premiere in Williamsburg as they have a great selection for a dollar BUT it gets VERY crowded, twice I went aroud 6 30 and was turned away. You would have to get there at 4 to get a seat.
Mermaid Inn (East Village) has happy hour with discounted drinks, apps and oysters for a dollar!

Any price range!

I'm on the look out for any places serving Island Creek Oysters from Duxbury, MA.
I am currently reading a book called "Shucked" where the author spending a year working on this oyster farm and I'm very interesting in trying them after reading all about them.

Mads Refslund of Noma @ ACME
Hi All,
I just read and found it very interesting that Mads Refslund has taken over at previous Cajun Style Acme.
I was hoping for some real taste of Nordic but reports are saying this is idea of just typical bistro food although the menu is divided into section such as "SOIL" and has dishes such as hay roasted sun chokes which gives me hope.
Has anyone tried it? I'm eager to hear about it!
Here's the menu:

Has anyone recently had venison anywhere?
I love it but am not not much of a cook. I used to love Wallse's venison goulash bu last time I had it I was underwhelmed. It would be great to hear if anyone has had particulary good venison dish lately.

Where to find Suka Pinakurat?- Filipino Sauce
HI All,
I recently read about suka pinakurat.....
"It is fermented organic coconut sap, organic “kulikot” chilies harvested from the wild mountains of Iligan, and other natural spices blended to perfection. It is best used as a dipping sauce for anything and everything, "
I am not at all familiar with Filipino food but need to try this. Does anyone know where I might be able to buy it? Although I put this in the Manhattan board if anyone knows a place in Brooklyn/Queens I'd love to hear about this as well.
Thanks!

Forcella- Fried Pizza on Lorimer Street
Hi All,
A few months ago a new pizza place called Forcella opened up on Lorimer Street. Lately I've been reading more about it, in particular their deep fried pizza. Basically they deep fry the dough first then sauce /cheese it and then put it in the oven. I've search Chowhoud but didn't see much on this place- anyone had this fried pizza?

Thanksgiving dinner in NYC
Good Call. I was thinking the same thing for myself. My issue is that holidays always seem to be a bust at restaurants, even the good/ $$$$ ones. Since it's only my mother and I we go out but I have yet to find a place within NYC that really does this holiday justice. I have good recs for Westchester if you are interested. But hopefully we get some good nyc tips here! :)
Chinatown: 456 Returns
So there was some mention of rudeness of waitstaff. When I go to Chinatown I don't expect stellar service, especially when I can't speak their language etc. I have to say though the rudeness here was a bit excessive. The waiter was what I would consider very hostile. He got our appetizer order wrong and refused to switch it or do anything. Got angry when i asked for water, he brought water half way through the meal then only one glass when there was four of us. little stuff like that. That said I would still go back and the food was good, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was nice (linens on tables, etc).
I had scallion pancakes (ordered ones with beef and egg as suggested but this is the app. waiter messed up and refused to do anything about) which were really nothing great at all. Best they were average.
The soup dumplings were good- not a lot of broth BUT very flavorfull and the skin was great- finally ones thin skinned!
I then had salt and pepper pork which was fresh, nicely seasoned and perfectly crisp.
next time the tofu skin fish for sure!

2nd Visit to NYC....We want to be in the "know"!
Where are you coming from?
I was recently impressed and very much liked the experience at Junoon which is Indian cuisine but "fancier" then your normal Indian place and has a very nice ambiance, cocktail list, etc.
Depending on how adventerous you are feeling it's worth it to take the 10 minute train ride from 14th street union square in manhattan to the Bedford L stop (first stop in brooklyn on the L line) to visit Smorgasburg which is daytime food vendors outside on saturdays only. If you are looking for food carts this is a great alternative/ nice activity. Plus there is a lot of shopping, food and drink in that area.

For Harlem the place right now is still Red Rooster
http://redroosterharlem.com/
someone mentioned meatball shop. it's very casual, not pricey and I love it!
For cocktails I most def second PDT and also would add Pegu Club in there.
Also what about sushi? depending on where you're coming from that might be a must!
