Dual Fuel Gas Range
Oh, I forgot to mention. It is in a small town, family owned appliance store.
They sell 7 different brands of appliances.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Doc,
The one that I am looking at was actually in a built in viking display. It was not live, however. He said it is a year old and that they will be getting the newer models (because of the push to colors). He said I will still have the same warranty as a new one.
I will get to see it on Friday.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Viking Floor Model Found
30 " Dual Fuel 4 burners, sealed
regular price $4,995, will sale for $3,750
I would have never thought to inquire about the floor models.
I called four different places and they all sell them.
The Dacor 30" was $3550
Another place had a Dacor 36" for $5900.
Deals can be hade if you look.
Thought I would share that with you all
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Hey Doc,
Scrap that last idea.
Husband says that is a good deal, but is that the range that I really want.
He eliminated that in short order.
Still it is a great deal on nice little stove.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Doc,
Okay price shocker for hubbie on the 36" but he is still okay if cabinets come out at decent price and we have priced the limestone (right under $ 5,000).
I just had a call from our appliance store that we are purchasing stove with.
The lady knows that I am trying to watch my pennies. Of course, watching them go right out of the door, but it is going to be worth it.
Anyway, she said someone orderd the Dacor 30" Dual Fuel self clean range and then decided they needed 36" range.
She said they now have it in the clearance section for $3550 which is normally $4750.
Viking 30" is 5205.
What do you think of Dacor?
Would save about $2,000.
Many thanks.
Wolf v. Bluestar v. Viking? Help me decide?
Well said Doc.
Life is short and this may be the only time that I am able to
have such a nice kitchen.
My philosophy is that "we should live while we are alive".
I will confess I am really nervous about giving up that extra old oven that I have in the house. I have used it when I have had people over.
I was thinking I might get a combination microwave convection oven for the obvious, everyday microwaving, but also as a backup for the oven. Or maybe I should get a speed oven. Fact is, I have to have a microwave but it would be nice if it did more.
What are your thoughts on this one.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
I think I will call the place that I am going to purchase that beautiful Viking with and ask exactly what is the service call amount? I think it will be important to know.
I also think I will buy the warranty regardless of what hubby thinks on this one.
This is a lot of money to spend and I sure want it to be covered if in year 2 it goes to pot.
As far as the countertop, Boss loves the honed look. He first wanted concrete. So, it is easy to see why limestone became a possibilty. Same kind of simple pattern. He does not want me to have a busy looking pattern. It really matters not to me as long as I know up front what is required in maintenance and that it looks good. I also like soapstone. I was surprised to find that right now here in our market, granite is actually cheaper that Quartz (Silestone) who knew.
Wolf v. Bluestar v. Viking? Help me decide?
I am smiling as I write this.
I want the VIKING!!!!!
Lucky for me, Husband wants the Viking too. Yeah!
Only scary thing is that I now want the 36" Viking. Yikes!
Woa Nelly. Girl has gone wild.
I am justifying the 36" because it will help house value?
Does it work for you?
I think it does for me.
Wolf v. Bluestar v. Viking? Help me decide?
PCHONER,
What did you decide?
We are literally hanging by the threads here!
I am most interested because I am to purchase my Big Girl Range in less than 2 weeks and I am still sitting sideways on the fence.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
You are right on the warranty issue.
I mentioned getting the extended warranty, Husband said "why" and my mind started back to all the posts and thought to myself, that is why.
it may be that I pay for the extended warranty myself, just to have it.
Now on to countertops!!
Husband likes really old looking countertops and is pushing for honed limestone, honed slate or something like that.
How Important is Self Cleaning on Range?
Many thanks to all you fine folks.
I think it will have to have self cleaning.
Now, just to decide which oven.!!!????!!!!
Many thanks.
How Important is Self Cleaning on Range?
Well said. I was just worried that if I went to All Gas that would be a lot of gas running for 3+ hours and I have a tank (LP gas). Maybe I should go toward Dual Fuel?
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Okay Doc,
So you have the All Gas with Self Clean? Do you also have the Convection, which seems to come with all Gas stoves now?
I am getting very excited. I will have to make a decision in two weeks.
Down to Two.
I looked at the Five Star as well ,but could not find enough people to see a review from real owners. It was much cheaper. Sometimes, cheaper may not be better.
People at the stores do seem to try to steer me toward Wolf because of repair rates. They have told me that repair rate on Viking is 2/3 and Wolf has been 1/3 for their location.
Husband loves the look of the Viking. He is okay on the Wolf as long as the knobs are black.
Only other concern, which might be major, is if we go with Dual Fuel, then no electronic component with Viking but Wolf has an electronic control panel for oven.
Also, now trying to decide 30" or possibly 36" . Girl has gone wild.
30" is standard, so if stove goes out, I could probably afford it more easily. But larger stove may have better value to future sale of home? Once I decide, I will not be able to change because of cabinets and countertop.
Thoughts appreciated.
How Important is Self Cleaning on Range?
okay, so far 1 for, 1 against.
The only thing is that even after I have cleaned the oven, I sometimes still have a few places that I have to scrub pretty darn hard to get off.
My mom use to put down a piece of aluminum foil on the rack before baking or lasagne and what not, maybe that is what I should do.
Also, husband worries when oven is on so hot for 3 + hours. He considers that a real fire hazard. FYI, his dad was fire chief and had many a fires start at the range.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated as I weigh this out.
Also, much different price range if regular and not self clean.
New Kitchen: KitchenAid vs. Jennair
My husband and I looked at the Jenn Air Pro Dual Fuel Range.
I loved the look. Husband hated how the door closed. It snapped and he did not like that at all. He ruled it out because of the door close.
I do have a friend, whose best friend is a chef and he bought the whole Jenn Air collection for his new kitchen remodel.
Also, I found out about the Jenn Air connection when shopping for refrigerators. The same beautiful Viking, Dacor, Jenn Air and Kitchen Aid French Door refrigerator are all made by the same company and , it is exactly the same inside. It pays to go and look and talk to the appliance people. It saved me over $1200-1500.
A person on this site advised that I go and look and now I am putting that money towards my Big Girl Range.
How Important is Self Cleaning on Range?
I am getting ready to purchase my first Big Girl Range.
Down to Viking or Wolf.
Undecided on Dual Fuel or All Gas with convection.
How important do you think the self cleaning function is on your stove?
I cook all the time and have only used the self clean 3 times in 4 years.
I would love to hear what your opinion is on the self clean function?
Dual Fuel Gas Range
I did look at the Bosch, however, where I live there is no one that is certified to work on them. That is an important part of my decision.
I have narrowed down to two : Viking or Wolf.
Husband loves the Viking more than the Wolf in Dual Fuel because the Dual Fuel Wolf has an electronic component and he feels that could one day be a problem.
Now, rethinking the AG situation as the AG comes with convection and Viking now offers the AG convection with Self Cleaning option.
How Important is the self clean function?
I think I may have to start a new thread specifically for that.
I have only used the self clean 3 times in 4 years. I make more of a mess on top of the stove than in the oven.
Any thoughts please.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Ms. Peppatty,
You have a wolf. do you have Dual Fuel or All Gas with Convection?
I have narrowed the search and the only thing about the Wolf Dual Fuel is the electronic part of the Dual Fuel. That really worried my husband. He thinks that could one day go out. So, I am looking back to All Gas with Convection.
Only other question is the cleaning.
30" American Range
Hey 65tang,
What happened to your Wolf?
I have narrowed down to Viking or Wolf myself.
They both look fabulous.
What type of Wolf did you have AG, Dual Fuel and please, may I ask what went wrong and how old is your Wolf?
Many thanks, I am to buy in less than 2 weeks.
Many thanks.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Husband and I went to 1st store.
He eliminated most that were on the list by the look and feel of the appliance and how the door opened and closed. We are down to :
Viking and Five Star.
He likes the heaviness of the grates and the old iron look.
The door closure was important. I had no idea.
The Jenn Air Pro just snapped closed. So much for that line.
This happened with several others. The DCS and Dacor were too modern and the grates were not heavy.
We tested all of the ranges, except for the Wolf, which we will go to another store to see about.
I do have to share this in case someone else out there is shopping.
There was a section in the store called "Clearance Department"
This is where all sorts of appliances were purchased by clients and then the client opted to order something else. They were all brand new and still in the boxes with the covers down for viewing and the price was unbelievable.
PEOPLE - look there.
There was a Viking Dual Fuel 30" but it got sold before we got there.
There was also a Dacor 30 " All Gas Classic that was there, but
no dual fuel. Problem was that oven would have run off of gas and our tank is not that big, so we decided against that. The price was fabulous , it was like 3000.
Now the decision will be Viking (has 3 elements in oven), Five Star ( has 2 elements in oven) or possibly the Wolf (which we have not seen in person).
I will keep you posted.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Anyone still out there?
Husband and I go this afternoon to look at all the Dual Fuel Ranges.
I am so excited.
I admit though to being confused still.
Husband says, " Just pick one".
I tried to explain that it is not that easy, which he will soon see.
I am going to look, listen and feel the items today.
Making absolutely NO decision today.
Then think about it and weigh out the differences.
I feel like a kid on christmas morning.
Wolf v. Bluestar v. Viking? Help me decide?
I wish I had the answers for you, but I don't.
I go today to my first two big appliance stores.
Looking at the following DUAL FUEL:
Viking, Wolf, DCS, Dacor, GE Monogram, Thermador, maybe a Capital.
I started a post the other and have had many comments.
One gentleman told me all the things that I needed to know about putting in my first Gas Stove. His advice has been invaluable. Gas, Electric, Venting, etc.
He advised that I go to three different appliances places. I am doing this.
IT seems that everyone at the appliance stores have different opinions as well.
I strongly suggest that you read through all of the posts here to at least receive some guidance, which will be truely needed before you are swarmed by the salespeople with their opinions.
Happy Shopping!
Dual Fuel Gas Range
I checked on the BlueStar option and that will not work as it is only
AG and I bake a lot, but at least I have narrowed it down again.
We go on Friday to the stores ! Yeah.
Real problem, is that Husband says just pick one.
I am trying to tell him it is not that easy.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
I am glad to get all the help that I can from all of you guys.
I am making all sorts of notes and have followed your advice so far.
GAS - called my gas guy. Going to run the gas from fireplace connection and hook up the stove (still out on which one ) all for $150-175 at the most.
ELECTRIC - it appears I already have the right hook up at the stove connection.
HOOD - not sure on this yet. I know I will get a new one to replace old one.
I believe that the one I currently have has a 350 motor.
Question is : will I just be able to install and switch out without any other special venting????
Have located three high end appliance stores to visit. briefly did telephone interview with one lady and she did say that there are plenty of good companies out there and I should be able to find a good guality stove to fit my price.
Anything else, please advise.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
The lady at the appliance store mentioned that since I will lose 10% due to LP connection that I may not be able to get the Viking hot enough to sear scallops, etc?
What do you think?
Dual Fuel Gas Range
okay, got it.
I had not thought about that.
I think that after looking online that I still like that Viking.
The only other options are the Five Star for the extra high out put since I have LP and I lose the 10%. I do have an acquaintance who is a chef and I just learned he redid his kitchen but I was surprised to learn that he went with the new Jenn Air Pro. He is a man that is of no little means, so I was very surprised.
As a side note, I also decided I did not like that DCS... at all. I think, in part, because I have always loved the look of the Viking and the fact that it looks like it could stand up to me. I am not gentle. I am rough in the kitchen.
Many thanks for all the information. I cannot express my appreciation to you enough. The information you have given will help me in my first big stove purchase!
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Will do. I pulled up the DCS and it just did not look as nice as the
Viking or the Five Star or even the Jenn Air Pro Series.
That will most certainly be a pass for me.
I do have a guestion, however. Some of the appliance places online seem to be close in price to the dealer and still offer the extended warranties as well as free shipping.
Any thoughts about that ?
Dual Fuel Gas Range
Thank goodness. I bought had a heart attack.
I have taken your advice and found a place not far that has a showroom and where
I can see it in stock. They sell Viking, Five Star, DCS, Jenn Air and a couple of others.
Do you sear a lot of food? Like scallops or steak?
The lady mentioned that I will have a lower output on the burner due to LP on any stove I purchase. (by 10%)
She mentioned that Five Star has a burner at 21,000 and that DCS has 3 burners at 17,500. She said those are other options for me to consider as well.
I have decided definitely the 30" just not sure which company.
I will let you know when I figure it out. I cannot go to the store until next week, however.
Dual Fuel Gas Range
many thanks.
I have put off the cabinet guy for 3 weeks, so I will have a little more time before he comes. I am going to call the gas company about my gas line since LP and also electric guy. i think I may have the 220 already, maybe? not sure.
Will have to check about that hood vent. I would want a new one, but just wondered if the line that was there would still work. Will get to work. I am still very excited and am willing to keep my mind open and will actually look at the other brands as well.
I had a friend call at lunch and he is building new home and he mentioned they were going to by a smaller version of a dual fuel about $2250 to 2500. He did state to me, however, we do not cook a lot, so it will do for us, but for you, (I cook all the time and they are usually eating at my house). He said for people that cook a lot, like me that I may want to consider a little bit nicer of a range.
I would like to buy a nice range and do it right now and, hopefully, maybe not have to redo again in the near future.
Many thanks and if you think of anything else I should know, by all means, please tell me.
