Best breakfast burrito in LA??

Cafe Zella on Wilshire at 16th St. in Santa Monica has a very nice breakfast burrito. It's not huge, but the ingredients are of very high quality and it comes out of the kitchen quickly.

Need spot for pre-dinner drinks - Santa Monica/Brentwood - Nice selection

This is a great suggestion, I think this is perhaps the only place which has everything you're looking for.

Sports Bar in Santa Monica?

Parlor seconded. It's the best of the sports bars in Santa Monica for tvs, ambiance, and food. Nothing spectacular food wise, but the kitchen seems clean and the tacos are decent.

Needed old school steakhouse in LA

I agree with this Galley rarely comes up in these discussions but it really should. It rules!

Best raw food on the Westside?

Juliano's, on Broadway and 6th in Santa Monica, is the only place I've tried and it's pretty good. There's definitely some tasty stuff on the menu.

Comme Ca or Osteria Mozza

Mozza for sure. Comme Ca is horrible. The only people who like it are those so starved for anything even vaguely french in this town.

Providence vs. Patina

It really depends on your and your guests taste in food. Patina has a broader menu, the service is better, and it might "wow" them a bit more in terms of the overall experience.

On the other hand, if you like Seafood, Providence has better food.

If your parents are picky at all, I vote for Patina because there's something great on the menu for anyone. If they're up for seafood and adventure, Providence.

Who has the best hummus?

I agree, Sunnin's is pretty good. Hummus is all over the map these days, but I prefer Lebanese style.

Of course, the only way to really get great hummous is to make it yourself!

Spiciest Restaurant on Westside?

The dish itself seems to vary, but there are peppers which sometimes are found in the sauce that if eaten are incredibly hot.

Chinese or Thai on the westside

Chan Dara (Pico and Bundy) is not the best value, but it's pretty tasty. The bar is also a decent place to watch the Lakers, drink some beer, and eat Thai appetizers.

A Culinary Getaway to Achewood, California

I love achewood and the food stuff is fantastic. There's definitely some major foodie action going on in that site, whether it's Pat's anal over the top veganism, Teodor's cooking show, to Ray's totally madcap food tastes.. it's definitely created by someone who loves food.

Italian on the west side

Based on what you're looking for, I think Osteria Latini is the best bet. Nice space (if a bit loud), good food (if somewhat unadventurous), and the best vibe of the Brentwood Italian restaurants. The staff is really nice and make you feel at home. The Branzino and Bolognese are delicious.

I used to love Pizzcotto but does anyone else agree that it can be really hit-or-miss? I only go there now on off hours for pizza or pasta, after having a couple of really bad meals.

Definitely go for Guelguetza. You can't go wrong with the mole.

Informal poll: Best Mexican in the LA area

Have any of you eaten at Frontera Grill in Chicago? Are there any Mexican restaurants in LA that serve that style of fancified, regional nu-mexico city style cuisine?

Lunch on 58th St. or Nearby

Hi, a business partner wants to meet me for lunch "near Central Park, maybe on 58th st." Any suggestions for a nice lunch spot? I have no idea as to tastes/preferences so something middle-of-the-road would be good.

Best in LA

Sasabune is not my favorite sushi, but I feel compelled to stick up for it here. They really do have top-quality fish, excellent service, and... well top quality fish!

Fave ethnic restaurants along Venice Boulevard (west of Sawtelle)?

Have you tried Mediterranean Cafe? Near Versaille. Authentic middle eastern with nice people.

Looking for a fun and hip Westside Restaurant with phenomenal food...but not stuffy...

Musha is definitely good, but I wouldn't call the scene lively or hip, necessarily. It's kind of hit-or-miss for ambiance in my experience.

Katsu-ya, the food should be good, I think it depends on what you order. But it's definitely the hippest restaurant I can think of on the westside, if by hip you mean people are glammed out.

I think Venice is your best bet for a cool vibe and great food. There are a bunch of places like Axe, Joes, Beachwood (is that still open?) that should satisfy that.

Best pizza in town - informal opinion poll

1. Spago
2. Mulberry St.
3. California Pizza Kitchen
4. Abbot's Pizza
5. Antica in MDR

LA does not have good pizza, what it's best at is a new twist on pizza, hence Spago and CPK being near the top for options in town.

Best Burger in LA?

you're right, Apple Pan isn't cheap (anymore), but still it's under $10 with fries and a coke, no? That's cheap compared to Literati II which I put as my fave expensive burger.

E. Baldi

Went there a few nights ago and thought the food was really good. Service was good, room was a bit noisy but they have a nice vibe overall. The Veal is great, and so is the chard pasta. Risotto was just OK.

Wabi Sabi on Abbott Kinney?

Wabi Sabi's food has gone downhill. But on the plus side, I've seen Frank Gehry eating there twice. It's a fun place if you have the money to spend. For food alone though, not worth the $$.

Literati II for expensive burger ($16, but it is so good)

In-n-Out or Apple Pan for cheap burgskies.

Counter when I'm in the neighborhood.

Butcher shop recommendation for West LA

I am surprised by all the shout-outs for Whole Foods. I have universally found that they are not so good in terms of both meats and butcher service, especially lacking in the latter. For supermarkets on the West Side, Gelsons and Vicente Foods are far superior IMHO.
