Baby- and vegetarian-friendly in Brooklyn
My husband, 4-month-old son, and I are driving from DC to Cape Cod in August, and will be stopping in Brooklyn on a Saturday around lunchtime to meet some old friends, some of whom will be traveling from Manhattan. We're looking for a good place for lunch. It need not be fancy, but comfortable is a plus, and while we're not planning on spending the whole afternoon there, it would be great to be able to linger just a little over coffee and tea without feeling like we're inconveniencing the server too much.
The rub is that there will be an 18-month-old, in addition to our baby, two vegetarians and one vegan. We don't need a strictly veg place, but veg-friendly is a must. Also, we'll have our car with us, so somewhere where nearby parking is at least a possibility would be really important, too.
I realize this is a complicated and specific order, and I hope I'm not being totally unrealistic...Thanks!
Top Chef - Super Bowl (*Possible Spoilers*)
I know what the correct name is, but this never stopped me--or my husband--from yelling "dildo beach club" every time I saw the name on the screen. I'm actually kind of relieved to know that we weren't the only ones being adolescent about this.
Making Thick Smoothies For Diabetics
I put cold cooked oats/oatmeal prepared with ground flaxseed in my smoothies to make them thick. (You can also throw in a few spoonfuls of uncooked quick oats, but the cooked ones are a little smoother. I use the steel-cut.) Usually I just cook the oats and the flaxmeal at the beginning of the week, store it in a container in the fridge, and then just use some as I make smoothies during the week.
