Lunch in Greenwich

Looking to find a nice, casual spot for weekday lunch in downtown Greenwich area, preferaby within walking distance of library. I'm hoping for something a little more than Crumbs -- service and seating-wise -- but relaxed and not fancy for lunch after visit to art exhibit. Thanks.

Good food in Canton, Ohio

We will be in Canton next week for a college swim event at the Natatorium near the Football Hall of Fame, staying at the Courtyard Marriott near Belden Circle. We have been to Canton for this event many times and in recent years, the restaurant scene seems to be improving. We will be having lunch with our college age son and probably some of his friends on three afternoons and late dinners with other couples on 4 evenings. We'd prefer to avoid the chains that are so prominent and often crowded at lunch, and would love to find a few nice places for our dinners. In earlier years, we depended on Mulligan's, but last 2 years they disappointed. Where can we go for casual lunches nearby. For dinner, we would drive a bit further, but not too much. Where do Canton foodies like to eat? Thanks.

Where Should We Avoid?

Thanks for all the advice and interesting chatter. We will be on our way to NO on Tuesday armed with pages of restaurant advice from Chowhounders. We are looking forward to a wonderful time and lots of great food. Will report back once the dust settles.

Where Should We Avoid?

We will be leaving NY for our first trip to NO in about a week. We will be staying at Hotel Monteleon, no car. We'll be doing lots of sight seeing and walking. In addition to the FQ, we plan to be in the Garden District, Faubourg Marigny (how is that pronounced?), Warehouse/Arts District, Riverfront, Esplanade and the University area. I've scoured the CH posts and studied guide books and travel sites. The choices are overwhelming: there are so many great places for food & drink, we will run out of time and money long before we can get to most of them. We've decided not to plan anything too rigid food wise, but will try to be more spontaneous and eat when and where we happen to find ourselves as we tour the city (except Sunday brunch at Cafe Atchafalaya), and will probably do more late lunches and appetizers or small plates for dinner. With our food plans looser, I'm wondering now what places we should stay away from -- we will be in lots of "tourist" areas and would like to avoid the spots that look busy and popular but just don't measure up in the end. Any advice?

New Orleans on Mother's Day

I understand what you mean. I think CA sounds more like our style -- we are coming from NYC area and are not so much interested in the exact "classic", food-wise, as much as the Sunday Jazz Brunch experience. I think CA sounds like a winner. Thanks again for your help.

New Orleans on Mother's Day

Thank you both. Just made a reservation for Cafe Atchafalaya. I've heard many good things about it and think it will maybe be less crazy away from the FQ. Will be back in touch with more questions as our trip approaches. Chowhounders are the best!

New Orleans on Mother's Day

We will be making our first trip to NO next month and just realized we will be there for Mother's Day. I would love to experience a classic NO brunch, but I'm wondering if this will be the wrong weekend for it. Will every place be a madhouse with double prices? Should we even consider Brennans or are they probably booked already? We will be staying in the French Quarter and will be in town for a week. What do you suggest?

Biloxi for the first time

Hubby & I at Beau Rivage first time, 2 nights early May. We like good food, music, etc. but prefer smaller, more casual meals (I do not mean buffets) than I expect at the hotel. Any suggestions? We are from NYC area so are used to good, interesting food. Thanks.

First trip ever to New Orleans - 5 days in early/mid-May

We will be in NO in May, staying in the FQ. From NYC-area & used to good food and lots of variety. We are active young 50's & adventurous eaters, quality over quantity, mostly casual dining but a couple nice nights out. We love good music and good bars.

Where do we start?

Thanks for the tips, Mytah. I've added to my many lists.

Really looking forward to your warm weather. Would love a swim in the Gulf if not too chilly. Will be mindful of riptides. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Thanks for your input littleman and bhamgirl. I have added Louisiana Lagniappe to my list. I've read mixed reviews about the food at LuLu's, but sounds like a place we should stop in to have a drink. Are there any coffee shops around or small cafe-types for a cup of coffee and danish? Maybe we are better off at the hotel for breakfast...

Hope your weather is good. We are looking forward to some fun and sun next week!

Visiting Orange Beach for first time ever. Would love to hear your opinions on my list of possible good eating spots.

FYI, traveling 4/13-20/2011 to Perdido Beach, hubby & self, from NYC area; we appreciate good food, value, service, setting, etc. But we are on vacation so not looking to duplicate what we can have here at home. Not big on breakfast but if there's a great nearby bakery/coffee spot, we'd love to know about it. We'd like to find some "light", casual lunch spots, and good local dinner options, maybe a couple nights "nice", but mostly pretty casual, nice bar scene/music a plus. I have combed the boards and visited a few travel sites. Please let me know what you think of these selections and add your own comments regarding bar scene, music, view, atmosphere (and of course, food), etc. Fish shacks are fine, but not every night; which are the ones we shouldn't miss (and what to avoid)? If I've included some real tourist traps, please advise and if I've missed some real winners, please holler! Here goes:

Casual fine dining: Cobalt, Shipp's Harbor Grill, Wolf Bay Lodge, Grazie, Villaggio Grille

Casual: Geno's, Cosmo's, Gulf Shores Steamer, Tacky Jack's, Cotton's, Doc's Seafood Shack, Hazel's, Original Oyster House, DeSoto's, Mikee's, Live Bait at the Wharf, Billy's Seafood, Tin Top, Shrimp Basket, Bahama Bob's, Moe's Original BBQ, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, Blow Fly, Big Fish.

Stay Away: Steve's Marina, Louisiana Lagniappe, Lamberts.

Many thanks for your help!!

Restaurants in Canton, Oh

Thanks, lizetteorama. We had a nice (but cold) trip and enjoyed a couple of spots listed on the thread. Will be back again next year and Geisen Haus will be our first food stop, followed by Benders!

Restaurants in Canton, Oh

Heading to Canton on Wednesday to see our college student swim at NCAC's. We will be there for several days. We've been to Canton a few times before and find it hard to find good (non-national chain-type) restaurants where we can go for lunch with a few hungry college kids, something sit down, not just pizza; we have a car, and time available for a decent lunch. Have been to several of the chains + to Mulligan's most visits, and it's been okay, but we'd like to try something different, -- great sandwiches/soup/salads. Also, where to go in the evening as a couple (no students) for dinner and after, a few drinks and a casual place (we're staying at the CY Marriott). Would love to have options! Thanks.

bouche de noel

I would like to order a small bouche de noel for Xmas dinner this year. I'm located in Rye and have had a couple from various bakeries over the years, but nothing really notable. Just wondering if anyone has found a bakery that makes a nice one.

Canton/Potsdam

I have only been up there once, fall of 2008. We ate at a decent Mediterranean spot in Potsdam, but I don't recall the name, just a half block or so off the main street, and an easy walk from the Clarkson Inn. If you go back again, I'm sure it would be easy to track down.

Tucson birthday dinner for 17 year old

We are visiting Tucson and it is our son's 17th birthday today. Where's a fun spot for a good dinner? We are staying at Westward Look. Are any of the "Cowboy" steak houses any good, such as Pinnacle Peak or El Corral, or just touristy? Good Mexican would also fit the bill. Would appreciate the local's advice. Thanks

Returning to Phoenix/Tempe/Tucson after many years....

I will be traveling back to Arizona next week after being away for many years. I grew up in Scottsdale/Mesa area, but everything has changed dramatically. We will be in Tempe, Tucson and then Phoenix for about 3-4 nights each. Would love restaurant suggestions in each place for b/l/d. We're traveling with a teenager who enjoys good food plus we are coming from New York, so are used to interesting, adventurous dining. Would like to know of great dinner places, but also local finds that are not too costly since we will be eating out a lot of meals. Same for breakfast and lunch: would prefer good places where the locals go.
We will have a car.

I'm looking forward to some warm weather. Is anything still in bloom (cactus wise) or too late? Thanks!
