Palma Carriage House?

Hi all,

I'm considering hosting a dinner in the Palma carriage house, but am a little thrown by the bipolar reviews on Zagat's, Citysearch, etc. It sounds as though service and food quality can fluctuate quite a bit in the main restaurant, but that carriage house buy-outs are maybe more reliable? I notice a couple people have mentioned the carriage house here, but not in depth, as in both circumstances it wasn't available. Do any of you have experience with parties there?

Thanks!

Best Chocolate-Covered Strawberries?

Hi all,

I'm putting together a wedding shower gathering, and chocolate-covered strawberrries have been requested. I know Godiva does this well, but they're pretty over-the-top expensive (and not terribly original). Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Many thanks!

Best Jambalaya in NYC?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to put together a surprise gathering for a big New Orleans food fan. Can anyone recommend the best jambalaya, etc. in New York?

Many thanks...

Event Space Suggestions?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a Manhattan restaurant (or bar with appetizers) that is available for buy-out or has a private party space. The catch: this is for a theater benefit (cocktails/appetizers - not full dinner), so a piano and sound system would be ideal, but at a minimum we need to be able to bring in a keyboard and a few mics for a handful of songs.

Any thoughts?

Guest estimate is maybe 100 and date is flexible in December.

Many thanks!

Private Party Dinner (15 ppl)

Can any of you recommend a seriously tasty (without being overly pretentious) NYC restaurant along the lines of Lupa, Cru, etc. that offers a private room in which roughly 15 people could sit for dinner? We've used Lupa in the past (and love it), but have officially expanded beyond what they can seat at one table. Seeking great food/wine in a relaxing (read: not Per Se) environment. Suggestions greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

Grayz v. L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon?

Thanks so much for your response! I'm actually referring to Grayz, which is the new small plate Cafe Gray follow-up in the old Aquavit location. But the Robuchon feedback is a big help - thanks.

Grayz v. L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon?

Any preferences between these two among any of you who have explored both? We have a special occasion coming up and these are the two options, but we're having trouble making the final call. Will just be two people celebrating a birthday, so full dinner as opposed to bar scene. Would love any input...

Best,
M.

what's good besides Ceviche at Inti Raymi?

Just moved to JH a few weeks ago and have been to Inti Raymi twice. Most of the menu is still unexplored for me (and I have no idea which chefs work which nights), but I'm soundly smitten with the white fish tacu tacu (can't remember the specific name, but it's the first fish tacu tacu option, and it's served with onions). Also hear their Peruvian pesto entrees (can't remember what they're called, but you'll know them when you read/see them) are very good...
