chinese in los angeles robertson-olympic area
Hop Li and Hop Woo are, to my taste, similarly mediocre and acceptable.
Hu's Szechuan is a Maoist conspiracy to poison White America
Mandarin Kitchen is fine, *yawn*

Little Bangladesh? Want more info!
Just went to Swadesh. The beef patty was wonderful -- well spiced with a flaky pastry exterior. Samosas also great, with a fine potato mash inside. Cheap, and they have a small sit down area. Most dishes are displayed, but I think I saw some stuff come out of the kitchen that wasn't on display, no menu of course. Worth stopping by
Lamb sandwich or dip - westside

Taste of Chong Qing closed in SGV
As I recall, the chronic "downhilling" I was doing was about New Chongqing on San Gabriel which did, indeed, break my heart with abysmal food after a promising start.
sad details here http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/797929
Taste of Chongqing, I don't remember dissing. I liked them. I will probably return to Chung King .
I do recall the old hands here warning that T of CQ had moved into a restaurant death-zone location..
Taste of Chong Qing closed in SGV
That's depressing. I thought that place was a fine addition to the Sichuan landscape....
Best Pizza Slice in Midtown
absolutely agree. the Upside Down is spectacular. it's a bit of a sicilian feel, the crust is light and crunchy, just perfect.
LA Chowhound Looking For Great Italian/Other Stuff
We went to Zavino. Last nite. I thought it was absolutely wonderful, and I loved the little urban/unfussy space. Fantastic pizzas. Perfect. And so close to the hotel!
My great thanks to the Chowhound hivemind that brought me here...
I might have to go there again tonite!
Thai in culver city area
She must try Jasmine, a Malysian place at Washington and sepulveda. It's got great coconut chicken soup and is impressively chowhoundie
LA Chowhound Looking For Great Italian/Other Stuff
I usually shy away from fancy and like more homey/casual/divey places. Dont care about liquor. Love to find the perfect Philly pizza :D
LA Chowhound Looking For Great Italian/Other Stuff
I'm a dedicated hound coming into Philly for three days and staying at the Loews.
Due to the one grievous lack in Los Angeles -- Italian food -- I am wondering if there might be a classic Italian place that people would send me...
Also if there's any other suggestion along the lines of "only in Philly" I would love to hear that too!
thnx!
Chowhound Worthy Finger Food Catering/Take Out For Oscar Party
Very small party of about 15 in Venice. Thinking about a step up from the usual Trader Joe's Spannokopitas
Any thoughts? i would love to do something pastry and meat that is elegant, chowhound worthy and fingery...anything really!
URGENT HELP REQUIRED: Lunch in Upland
Thanks so much for the kind and swift help! Fortunately, I was able to elude the evil travel gods that were sending me to this locale.
But my time will come, so I'm still listening. I'm leaning Caffe Allegro...
This is take out for a crew and cast of ten
URGENT HELP REQUIRED: Lunch in Upland
I thought Friday's shoot was bad being in Simi Valley, but a quick chowhound search led us to the Greek House which was delectable
Now, an even more preposterous challenge -- any good food for lunch in Upland?
Stella Rossa-Fab by Any Name But Turn Down the Volume

Kabab Grill in Palms?
BTW you need to order the cheese safeeha, that's the signature dish, not the zaatar safeeha, which is much less interesting
Kabab Grill in Palms?
sorry you didnt like it. you like any of the middle-eastern places westside?
Diet Slurpees in LA?
i see them super-occasionally at 7-11. I think there should be a mobile app for diet slurpee spottings.
Battle of the Potstickers
Just went to Beijing Pie House and found the experience tremendous. Got the Meat Pancake, the Lamb Pies, and the Pumpkin Pork and Shrimp fried dumplings. The dumplings were thicker, rougher things than the refined delicacies at Luscious Dumplings. I really enjoyed them. The meat pancake was a fantastic kaleidoscope of sensations -- sweet, savory, lovely. the lamb pies were wonderful. Fantastic.
