Sushi in the OC - Can't find anything decent and Yelp is absolutely useless!
Try Higo Sushi in La Habra.

Best Popcorn In Pasadena (Laemmle Playhouse 7 Theater)
The popcorn at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 Theater on Colorado in Pasadena is the best movie house popcorn I have ever had. The popcorn is light and delightfully flavorful. Real butter is liberally applied just for the asking. I even take a small plastic take-out portion cup to put extra butter in. An assortment of Kernel Seasonings are provided for self-serving. I often go just to buy the popcorn. Yummy!
Moussaka In LA Area
I never had moussaka before and would like to know where I can go that serves it well. I would hate to try this for the first time and be disappointed.
New Korean restaurant in Pasadena?
It is Gaon Restaurant located at 2063 E Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. Haven't been there yet, but the six reviews on Yelp are, for the most part, pretty good.
Agony and Ecstasy - Life Beyond The Tender, Juicy, Heavenly Pastrami at Langer's Delicatessen - [Review] w/ Pics!
Great review. I have been coming here since I was a kid. The chopped liver is the bombeezie and they also serve it with pastrami on rye. I also enjoy their meat knishes. The meat seems like its everything all ground up. Yummy!
NY Style Chinese food in LA?
I agree that Golden Star in La Habra is pretty good Cantonese American food.
The Original Shrimp Place- Best Fried Shrimp Around
This place has been around for decades. I am surprised that there is no review. The Original Shrimp Place is located just south of the Grand Central Market. They have various items on the menu, but their signature item is fried shrimp. They are more like little dough balls which contain a large shrimp inside. Kind of like a shrimp fritter. Something akin to the shrimp at Johnny's Shrimp Boat but better.
They have a really nice homemade hot sauce/salsa. It is made I think with dried chilies and black pepper. Awesome!
The only negative is that it is located within something called the Foodcourt. There are other food stalls in the complex and sometimes the clientele can be rough around the edges.

Bar Celona, Pasadena, Closed But Re-Opening
Bar Celona closed down about a month ago and was replaced by an Asian restaurant. Same owners. However the Asian restaurant tanked and Bar Celona will be re-opening on or before September 1, 2008.
Tempe/Phoenix Reccs=Thanksgiving Weekend
Thanks for the info. We will actually be staying at in Phoenix, then somewhere in Tempe and finally in Scottsdale. We will be making the rounds.

Tempe/Phoenix Reccs=Thanksgiving Weekend
I will be in town from LA for the USC/ASU football game (Thanksgiving Day). I am thinking about staying in Tempe for a day or two and then moving to downtown Phoenix.
Looking for good steak, seafood, mexican or italian. Also where should I stay for a sample of Phoenix nightlife. I know Tempe has all that Mill Avenue stuff going on. What's similar in the Phoenix area? Or is Scottsdale better?
Since we will take cabs, proximity or walking distance is ideal.
Report On Chop Suey Cafe (old Far East Cafe Location)
Thanks for the recc. I am an almond duck fanatic. Can't wait. Where are they located?

Great time at Arroyo Chop House
The chilled shrimp cocktail is very good. I always order a side of ranch dressing with the bread as it is homemade, different and tasty. Ditto for the thousand island dressing which goes exceptionally well with the wedge. During winter they serve a surf and turf with a petit filet and Pacific Spiny lobster. Yum.

i found fresh lobster for $9.99!!
Are these Maine lobsters or Pacific Spiny lobster? Believe it or not I prefer the latter. I guess its a Puerto Nuevo thing.
Exceptional Service at Central Park Cafe
Shakers that used to be at Arroyo Parkway and Cordova had a sign that they were moving and to the Central Park location. It sounds like a very different restaurant. Shakers was more like a coffee shop. Are they related?
best fried chicken
I too may get booted off but I am partial to Popeyes. I really like their Cajun rice which is like dirty rice. It has small pieces of what I think is liver.
On a negative note, I disliked the fried chicken at Knott's Berry Farm. I think its a quality problem as they have long lines and your packed in and out. Kind of like an assembly line.
OLVERA STREET--Dinner Recs?
I have been going to La Luz Del Dia since I was a wee lad. I agree the carnitas tacos are the best. They make their own corn tortillas. You can see several women patting tortillas in the open kitchen. Just make sure they hand shred your carnitas. They recently started using a commercial shredder which I think pulverizes the meat way too much.
You will also want to try their chicharron stew. It's not spicy like so many other places. Also belive it or not thay have FANTASTIC menudo on weekends. The best I have had in a long, long time.
Don't forget the best taquitos in the world at Cielito Lindo. Great green sauce which is like guacamole only better. I actually drink the stuff. I have attached a blog re Olvera Street.

Tall Pines Coffee Shop-Monrovia
Sounds just like my kind of place. Driven by many times. I am always ISO great menudo especially "con pata". I guess I'll just have to stop in.
Orchards Fresh Foods- Sausage, Sammy's and Shaved Ice, Whittier/La Habra
Thanks for that great reccomendation. I have driven by that place a million times and never realized what I was missing. I'll definitely check it out.
Pomona Fair Area Recs??
I'll be at the LA County Fair this weekend. Besides the Fair food, any recs for Pomona Area dining.
Porto Alegre Churrascarria Brazilian BBQ
It's very good. Good quality. Higher end place.
Goodbye Zankou
Ya gotta be kidding. Restaurants are in it for business. It's a livelihood, not a hobby. As a business owner we have double the expenses that non-business owner have. Wake up and smell the garlic sauce.
I tell you what, I will send you the extra 50 cents for the year. That comes out to $26.00 a year if you go once weekly.
Your favorite dinner spot in Pasadena?
Arroyo Chop House for steaks and shrimp cocktail. Porto Alegre for upscale Brazilian churrascaria. Sushi Roku for guess what. Tokyo Wako for Benihana style grub. Smitty's for the trout.
Cheap Taco Plate, Pasadena
Green Street Taqueria is horrible. I live down the street and I will never go back. It's owned and run by a gabacha. I guess that explains it.
Villa Sorriso in Old Pas-- suggestions?
Food is only ok. The osso buco was not bad. Same owners as Barcelona down the street.
Pizza in Pasadena
I happened to wander into Gelato de Roma in Pasadena and was wonderfully impressed with the pizza, which I believe to be the best in Pasadena.
The place will fool you as it looks like it serves gelato only. But the pizza is very good. It is a thin crust, with great sauce and good quality toppings. The pizza is priced very reasonably.
It's located on the south side of Colorado between Arroyo Parkway and Raymond.
help me find a kebab place...that is not carousel!
Ditto with Mediterranean Cafe in Pasadena. Great kebabs. They have beef, chicken, lamb and ground beef kebabs. They serve it with a greek-style salad, rice pilaf, really good humus and pita. They also have a great garlic sauce (ala Zankou) and some nice chili sauce/paste.
This is primarily a lunch place. They close at 7:00 p.m. Its a small place with only a few tables. You walk up to the counter and order. You can see the griiling going on. Lots of us take the food to go.
I also been to this place called Saharra on Colorado in Pasadena. They grill the kebabs on mesquite and serve grilled tomatoes and some sort of fresh cheese stuff.
