recommendations in little ethiopia

There are so many restaurants there... but I stick to Merkato. It's there for a long time, it's simple and really good. :)

New Westside Churrascuria: Brasa Brasil Grill

bring back this old topic too.
It's worth it.
And by the way, since i forgot to mention on my other post... i finally had great brazilian style okra and quail eggs after 14 years living in LA!!!

Loved it!

Brasa Brasil update

Wow, went there yesterday, for the first time, and I gotta say... I really liked it!

Place is simple and nice (not fancy like most churrascarias around, but in a way more "real", since most churrascarias in Brasil aren't fancy at all, except for the few famous ones). As streetgourmetla pointed out, Alex is great. Great talk, extra attention and very nice. Wife and I had a great experience, felt back home in Rio, and best of all, certain that we found a great and inexpensive way to satisfy our craving for Brazilian food.

Ok, here it goes:

bacon wrapped chicken - 7/10
lamb - 8/10
tri tip - 10/10
sirloin cap (picanha) - 10/10
herbed chicken - 9/10 (i actually loved it)
garlic beef - 8/10
Brazilian sausage - 9/10
pork loin - 5/10 (definitely the least favorite)

Recommended :)

Brasa Brasil update

Padaria, lanchonete e boteco. Yup, you said the three magic words. If you know them and love them, you can consider yourself Brazilian. Yes... simple things in life, always the best.

Casa Bianca Eagle Rock - Best Pizza Ever

All I know is that I have to try it now. If not just because of your opinion, also because of the controversy of this topic haha

And who knows, i might also end up thinking it is THE best pizza after all. Since I love pizza with a passion, I can't ignore such opportunity :)

Crab Pit on La Brea

sorry for such a horrible experience. thanks for reporting it, you saved some hounders from similar future experiences and, hopefully, from leaving more money in their registers. places like that shouldn't last or be around. more like crap bit than crab pit.

Has anyone tried any of the new-ish places on Pico between LaBrea and LaCienega?

La Maison du Pain. I LOVE IT.

Do good baguettes really exist in LA?

One more vote for Bristol Farms!

Porto's must try's

I just love their macaroons. Perfect balance of sweetness, texture and moisture.
I just love them.

Zelo's Cornmeal Crust Pizza. Yum!

I still think it's one of the best around. We can't really compare with other styles of pizza, obviously, but it is really really good. And yea, worth the drive, no doubt about it.

Bristol Farms Bakery counter: good?

I love their baguettes. I go to the one on Sunset Fairfax corner. Not the sourdough one, just the regular.

Looking for an specific hot sauce. Help...

Ralphs, Servog! Just came back with a bottle :) :)

And i tried the hot sauce shop at the farmer's market earlier today, and the asian lady looked at me with an ugly face and said "we don't sell that cheap stuff in here"

hahaa, oh well... can be cheap, but i really liked the sauce :)

Donuts in the Valley?

Since we are on the topic... any good donut shop in Glendale? I work there, have a coworker who craves it all the time, and wanted to make her a surprise someday. Yeah, we know about Porto's... but no donuts there haha.

Looking for an specific hot sauce. Help...

Thanks folks... i knew i've seen it before, didn't know about the fast food chains carrying it, cuz it's been a while since last time i've been to one, but I will just check out some of the groceries in the area. I had no idea it was that common. I really liked it's flavour, and it actually made those toasted raviolis taste even better

thanks again

Looking for an specific hot sauce. Help...

I just came back from St. Louis. I had some drinks and bar food at a couple of bars, and fell in love with a cayenne pepper sauce called Frank's Original Red Hot.

Does anyone know where i can find it here in Los Angeles?

Thanks in advance!!!

LaLa's Argentine Grill

I like the one on Ventura better. Quieter, faster and less crowded. Food arrives quicker to your table. Parking is also easier, specially on the weekends.

Chocolate Tart?

Looking for my favorite dessert. Chocolate tart... not a pie. Can be from french bakeries or any restaurant in LA...I would definitely be willing to drive - far - for this amazing dessert.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion!

Where to get the best FLAN in LA?

I tend to go to Porto's Bakery, in Glendale. Firm (I personally don't like those watery, too airy ones). And a whole flan for under $9. I don't think you can go wrong with that.

It actually reminds me a lot of the Brazilian pudim my mom used to make.

Malay Apple - Mountain Apple?

Thanks... I was in Little Saigon just a few weeks ago and saw some very interesting fruits, but couldn't spot mountain apples. Next time i might ask around though, and refer to it with it's thai name (might be more familiar to them).

Fascinating the fact that Brazilians from the Amazon region use the same malay name. It's pretty unknown anywhere else in Brazil. I'm from Rio, and my wife always told me about it... and the first time i tried was actually in a pretty remote region of Hawaii.
