Detroit dining downtown

Gyros at Golden Fleece in Trappers Alley. (providing it's still there, I haven't been back to Detroit in 10 years.)

Special Dinner for 2 in Boston?

I second Grill 23. We've had 3 anniversary dinners there and never been disappointed. It's quieter upstairs, if that's important.

I haven't seen it in the Salem, NH or Plaistow, NH Shaws, but I haven't checked the Shaws in Danvers, yet.

Does anyone know where I can buy Zatarain's Creole Mustard (preferably in the 12 oz plastic bottle or 16 oz glass jar) in the Danvers/Peobody or Methuen/Salem NH areas?

green garlic

By green garlic do you mean garlic scapes? Every now and then I see them around in various produce sections. I think I saw them last at Whole Foods in Andover

Where to buy fresh fish in Andover?

I've been happy with what I've bought at Whole Foods in Andover. I can't say that I've ben impressed by the fish market next to Butcher Boy

Why Make Chicken Stock?

Here's a completely new reason no one else has given!

My dad has a really bad reaction to anything containing MSG (or any of the "other" names like hydrolized protean, yeast extract, etc that it can masquerade under)

Almost all of the commercially available products have one of those additives. With home made stock we get thebest flavor and avoid the aftereffects.

Anybody heard of a drink named a "Tangerine Crush"?

My wife and I were in Annapolis for a family wedding and the group was at the Ram's HEad Tavern. One of the ladies ordered a "Tangerine Crush" and gave my wife a taste. I have never heard of this cocktail before and I can't find much on the 'net about it. Does anyone know a good recipe for one?

"Problem" ingredients

I believe a "clamshell" is the way the herbs come packaged. Two moulded plastice pieces, hinged on one side which close together areound the item packaged.

What was your Best Meal ever?

Hey, I want to tell you all that reading these posts and visualizing some of the meals (and experiences!) has been very interesting. That's why I started this thread!

Nice Spot for Valentine's Day......

That's why my bride and I celebrate our anniversary on the very day (February 16th). We generally go out to dinner. This year we're going to Smith and Wollensky's. Over the past few years we have wound up in EMPTY restaurants many more times than not. Last year was an issue, thought because the 16th was the Saturday after Valentines day.

What was your Best Meal ever?

The best meal I have ever had was our anniversary last year. My wife and I went to Smith and Wollensky's in Boston. We were in a mood to celebrate (34th anniversary) and up to that point, the best steakhouse we had ever tried was Ruths Chris. The castle in Boston was the perfect ambiance, and the steaks we had (dry aged) we absolutely fantastic! The wait team got in to the act and we all had a ball! We spent a lot, (~$300) but we don't do it often and had a great time. Then we spent the night at the Copley Plaza

Has Anybody Tried Trattoria Al Forno in Havehill?

My bride (of 34 years) wants to take advantage of the "Greater Merrimack Valley Restaurant Week" (actually lasts 2 weeks) and the menu listed here looked interesting. Is it worth a gamble?
