The Vapors's Profile

What shouldn't I miss at Bklyn Fairway?

Roasted Chicken with Mexican spices.
My lobster roll had 3 claws, for 10 bucks.
Coffee.
Inexpensive spices/dries herbs.
GIANT organic whole chickens(for BBq and brick).
Cheese prices.....

Recession Eats!

Second Matamoros, get the small tacos....
But closer to my hood, Fast and Fresh Burrito Grill on Hoyt at Atlantic.
Three good, not great soft tacos, whichever type they have that day, $6.
But the real deal is the $2 Bohemia cervezas. 3 tacos, 2 beers, $10-no tax.

broken-hearted pizza lover needs help: Vito's to Rocco's (on Vermont)

I used to drive from Mulhulland and Laurel Canyon just to get a slice of the old Vitos. They disappeared, I cried, only to reappear on La Cienega, I cried again, much closer!
Although I am currently in Brooklyn, when I come back to LA, it's straight up La Cienega to savor a slice. Vitos rules.

OUTERBOROUGH ECONOMEALS under $10 PP

I second FFD, although, you can substitute two Bohehias in place of the Snapple and stay under $10.

Good Chinese Buffets - 90035 area

Chao Krung on La Brea at Beverly. Not Chinese, but excellent and fresh. Soups, the BEST peanut dressing and many vege and meat combinations. My vege GF and I carnivore, love this place.

Pre-Pantages Meal

I'll be attending a show at the Pantages Theater this Sunday. The show starts at 6:30 and I would like to take my wife for a late lunch/ early dinner. It's our anniversary, but I would like to keep it moderate in price, and not Mexican-I've had my fill. We are coming up from OC, would love something special.

Sandwich Contest

I mis-remebered. It seems my GF has a better memory. I order a "Garden Melt", it comes on rye. I ask them to add bacon and avocado, they laugh, proceed. Order some fresh onion rings, crisp-yet- juicey. Open, said melt, add a few rings. With a side of ranch, just me, I devour. Not a Ruben, not even close. But a great "sandwich", no bun intended.

Sandwich Contest

1. Astro Burger....Don't laugh.
-Veggie Ruben Sandwich, add bacon. Under $5.
2.Long for the days of the Grilled Cheese with bacon and onion rings
at the old "North" on Sunset, (now Hyde).
....love bacon.

Great Bar in Cobble Hill?

BGH....Order from Zaytoon's or Cubana and enjoy the breeze with an excellent beer selection...

Last minute trip to Laguna this weekend. Help!

Splashes at the Surf and Sand Hotel. La Sirena Grill, two locations. Javier's, chicken Mole enchiladas/ Taco Loco......All good!

are there some places you eat @ once a week and what do you order?

Chao Krung. On Fairfax, S. of Beverly(think). Across from CBS. For the lunch buffet. Usually very fresh, always revolving. My selectarian GF, loves the vege options. We wish they bottled the peanut dressing. Friendliest ladies working in LA.

Birthday Dinner in Laguna Beach

Splahes in the Surf and Sand Hotel, Laguna Beach. Un-matched view, (besides Las Brisas).

Del Re Knife Truck

Green truck. I showed him a small pairing knife, and my best buddy, my Global chef's knife. He said, "$18". I said, "Late". My steel works great. Has anyone taken knives to their local butcher? Sounds like a simple procedure for them.

just a Breakfast Burrito, that's all.

Although I realize the "mexican" food here, in S. Brooklyn, is few and far between, all I'm looking for is the Holy Grail of breakfast. It comes in many forms, and is easy to assemble, and is very portable, but, definitely scarce. The breakfast burrito: Eggs, beans, potatoes, cilantro and onion, occasionally cheese, and if wanted, some form of meat. Add Cholula, and no meal is needed until dinner. If fast food chains can carry it, why can't my corner spot make it? Please lead me.....

Are nachos Mexican?

If a plate of chilaquiles is left out, dries, is it now, a plate of nachos? I suspect this was the first plate of nachos. My Mexican dad laughed when we ordered nachos, while he ate menudo on Sundays, in Santa Ana.

Kinda like In / N / Out but something more

We are missing the point. How can one compare the consistancy of a chain burger to the one-off specials offered at all these other spots. In a burger pinch, who wants to travel all over the basin to get a meat and cheese fix? In and Out- consistantly good, not the best, but when you wear that shirt anywhere in the country, including NYC, people smile.

What are good Breakfast Spots West of Fairfax

Second Franks, great breakfast burrito.

dinner in Corona del Mar?

I would head down the coast a bit to Newport Coast and hit Javier's.
Upon arrival, and a Marg or two, I would order the chicken mole poblano enchiladas.
But, that would be me. Otherwise I would get the burger at Quiet, and some of the best calamari I've had, (IMHO). At brecky, head to Rose Donuts, and get any one of the breakfast sandwiches, and a jelly donut.

New Pizza, Carroll Gardens

We tried the new spot, South Brooklyn Pizza, last night. It was their first few hours of operation, so the kinks were still being ironed out. I think the coal oven was running hot, so the pies got a bit crispy. They were only serving a cheese pie, but had a full bar. I'm not an expert, but this was a tasty pie. Thin, chewy crust, but a bit too much char. That said, the wooden plank it arrived on, was empty when we left. The owner said toppings will start to be offered today. I hope this place gels, as the 'hood could use another casual, tasty alternative to over-priced slices and Lucali's. Oh, the sauce was fresh and sweet and delicious.

Sandwich and Hero

Thanks for all the suggestions, and away I go. These are solo missions, as my GF is a vegetarian, or "selectatarian" as I've coined it....

Sandwich and Hero

I'm looking for a great sandhich or hero in the Carroll Gardens, Red Hook, Boreum, Cobble area. Should I just get some cuts, bread, spread and assemble my own?

the best SANDWICH in (Los Angeles) period.

I second the downtown "dip". Could be just nostalgia, though.

favorite fried chicken?

Yes, crispy and a bit sweet.

Best Indian in Studio City?

Taste of India, try the vegetarian meatballs. Pillows of love.

Pizza delivery in Hollywood?

I would drive, while they haul, to Vito's.

favorite fried chicken?

Salvadoran? place on Sunset, across from Home Depot in Hollywood.
Unique.

Drinks and Nosh

Please, a few suggestions for a birthday for 10 people. Prefer like a laid-back lounge
scene, with delicious appetizers and an extensive beer/wine/drinks menu. A place with some noise and energy, but enjoyable food. Downtown is best. Thanks, in advance.

Eternal Fried Chicken Quest

Yes, in my limited view, Bon Bon is my favorite. Crisp and moist, slightly sweet and spicy.....divine-ish.

What foods do you find disgusting?

I'm sorry, but dried seaweed...I ask for soy paper.
