Recommendations Needed for Good Quick Eats Around GTA
and for crepes, go to crepes a gogo in yorkville (don't forget to have a petit creme with that). I often detour there just to pick up an "Italienne" (swiss cheese, boiled egg, basil, tomato, olive oil). I haven't found a better crepe place yet, and not for lack of trying! There's a place on College called "I Feel Like Crepe" which is my next conquest
What do you cook in your microwave?
The BBC Good Food magazine had a brilliant recipe for meringues in the MW. They are terrific fun to make with kids because you put in a small ball of "dough" and they puff up before your eyes into meringues! Takes some trial and error to get the timing right, but when you do they are great.
ISO chocolate dessert cups
Thank you so much, I'm close to Sun Valley - just popping out now!
Restaurant for a date with a "foodie"?
If you want to keep it light, why not try Crepes A GoGo in Yorkville? They have a lovely petit creme and there's something beautiful about eating with your hands!

ISO chocolate dessert cups
Need to make a few desserts for tomorrow and since it's such short notice, I thought a quick one would be raspberry mousse in those little chocolate dessert cups. PC used to make them, but apparently no more. Can anyone recall seeing them recently? THX
Frozen Croissants & Pasteries
Fiesta Farms has frozen croissants from France: plain and chocolate. I'm not such a great fan of chocolate croissants, but their plain ones are flaky outside and a little doughy inside. I've tried different ways of baking them to see if I can get the inside crispier - perhaps it just isn't possible!
Mushrooms
Not sure what types they have now, but T&T has a lovely selection of hard to find mushrooms.
Alternate uses for a waffle iron?
and of course: fricos. My friend has been experimenting with different types of cheeses, but parmesan has worked the best - lots of crunchy bits and they look great on a salad or with a salad on!)
Good brunch on weekends that opens by 9am (at the latest)?
The Senator opens early (7? 8?) and has a delicious breakfast. Boom on College opens at 6am.
Diners in downtown Toronto
She might enjoy Petit Dejeuner on King near Jarvis. It's Belgian-run and I've had breakfast/bruch there several times and never had a dud. The big plus: you get to sit on emerald naugahyde banquettes with gold dust on them!!!!
What's your most disappointing dining experience?
Without a doubt: Leslie Jones. Sweet little place with only 5 or so tables, I had been there for a private party and enjoyed it so agreed to meet a friend there. I got there first and I guess my superhero powers were turned on (Invisible Woman!) so no one offered me a drink. I had to get up and get someone's attention to get a drink. My friend showed up and we ordered appies - they were out. Fine - suggest what might be available. No, it was left up to me to guess. For main I ordered the daily special - beef medallions. When I tasted it I thought it had been boiled! My friend thought it might have been microwaved! I called the owner over to explain it to him quietly and suggested he take a bite to taste it. He walked out onto the patio and didn't come back in until we'd left. NEVER will I set foot in that place again.
Danforth Gems
I ask for no sugar in the mint tea and it's delicious. It is way too sweet if they just make it for you. I second Djerba and Dukem. I get take out from Thai on Danforth because it's handy and the red curry chicken is good. Bad breakfasts at the Terminal Restaurant are always fun.
Piment d’Espelette, any source in Toronto or southern Ontario?
I got mine at the Cheese Boutique in Etobicoke, and I love it!
What is your favorite rhubarb recipe?
Have you tried the Pig's Bum recipe in "How to Eat"? The story is cute, but the pud is delicious. Nice with a swig of custard.
Dinner this Easter Monday
I have to take out 3 friends for dinner this Monday (Easter Monday) and my usual suspects are closed for Easter. Anyone have a suggestion - Leslieville would be optimal, as we have to end up at King and Ontario for 9pm.
Thanks
Grains of Paradise
Thanks so much for your help - I have not yet been to the spice trader and I think it's on my "soon to do" list.
Grains of Paradise
Okay, now that I'm totally addicted to salad of tomatoes and basil from my garden with black salt and crushed grains of paradise, I find a small container from the Cheese Boutique will have me mortgaging the house before I get over my addiction. Anyone know a good place to get grains of paradise (well named, by the way!)
Anyone know where I can get Fresh Cadbury bars from the UK?
The Chocolate Box on Donlands just south of o'Connor has loads of large cadbury bars. Pretty sure they're fresh. Plus they have all kinds of teas, M&S products, jelly babies. A happy place!
