Lockhart BBQ
For any of the Lockhart places, is mid-day Saturday asking for a killer wait? Family might not be as dedicated as me if it involves a long line standing by the firebox.
Olivella's second location at Mockingbird/Abrams
Oops, I meant northeast corner of Mockingbird/Abrams...
Olivella's second location at Mockingbird/Abrams
Saw a sign announcing that Olivella's is going into the location of the short-lived Pizzeria Venti, northwest corner of Mockingbird/Abrams. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, especially since we are boycotting Scalini's due to a 90-minute wait for delivery!
ISO a sports bar in Dallas for good food and NFL watching
I haven't been there myself, but I hear that Brackets at Mockingbird/Central has better-than-you-would-expect food for a sports bar.
Texas Olive Oil
Spiceman had some where you could BYO-container that was unfiltered, a little cloudy, and awesome, but it has been a while. Central Market has at least one or two brands, but can't say they were memorable.
Food recs driving from Dallas to Gulf Shores
Just made the same drive, and things are a little sparse. The only bright spot we found: we had lunch at Lea's Lunch Room in Lacompte, LA (self-proclaimed pie capital of Louisiana!!). Blue plate special type of place with good ham sandwiches, but the real draw is the pie. Good lookin' meringue pies, but the double-crust pies, like peach and cherry, were the real standouts. Have a piece with your lunch, but take a whole pie with you to enjoy at the beach!
Any restaurant in same league as York Street?
I got this e-mail as well -- anybody been there yet? I haven't been to previous location...
Sutra
Hah! Ditto.
Anybody here familiar with Indika in Houston? That place is awesome, hopeful that Sutra might be similar.
Staycation Dallas
Since no one has replied, I will give it a go. You will need a mix of types of food, a mix of area of town, and a mix of high- and low-end.
Breakfast possibilities:
Crossroads Diner
La Duni
Good 2 Go Tacos
Fearing's
Legal Grounds
Kozy Kitchen
Dinner:
Neighborhood Services
Italian, either Lucia or Nonna
Something in Oak Cliff - Bolsa, Hattie's, Smoke
Asian, you pick; lots of experts on this board
Mex or Tex-Mex, you pick
Burgers or Pizza, you pick
At least one high-end place, somewhere that you have not been before; Mansion, Samar, Fearing's, Abacus, Bijoux
You could also pick one day or night to go to Fort Worth -- Bonnell's, Lanny's, Lonesome Dove, Brownstone, Nonna Tata
I am happy for the resident experts to fill in my gaps. Hope you have fun and don't gain too much weight!

Solo Weeknight Dining?
Looks like a last-minute coin toss between Nosh and Urbano. Solo BYO at Urbano might be the winner...
Solo Weeknight Dining?
So my lovely bride will be out of town this Thursday, and I am looking for some place tasty to eat by myself. At the bar would be fine, and I would like to try something new, any type of food. Anywhere from Lakewood to Dallas-proper to Oak Cliff would be fine -- I am thinking Smoke or Horne and Dekker, but other suggestions are welcome. I just don't want to feel like a lonely dork. Aside from the specifics of this request, it might be cool for people to describe any factors that make a place solo-friendly. (p.s. I am talking food-only, not people-meeting -- there, I feel better)
Rolling Pin Material
I just got a tapered beechwood rolling pin, and it is slightly rough and unfinished. Should I oil it before first use? If so, what kind of oil?
Fort Worth - special occasion
I agree with Lanny's. Modern Mexican moreso than Southwestern, but tasty, well-conceived, in a nice space. They gave us some nice TLC for an anniversary dinner a few years ago.
Dallas Forth Worth 1 Lunch
If you are passing through on a Wednesday, my vote would be for York Street. Wednesday is the only day they serve lunch, though.
What to do with a load of fresh peppers?
After a barren and hot summer, my garden is unleashing a bounty of jalapeno, anaheim, poblano, and ancho peppers. I have good recipes for white chili, salsa, and chile rellenos, but I still think I will have more peppers than I know what to do with. I may resort to just giving them away, but any suggestions?
WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE A WINEMAKER FOR ONE EVENING MEAL IN DALLAS ?
Agreed on York Street -- at Wednesday lunch, I have seen (presumed) food/wine industry types pull bottles of wine out of their bag. Don't know about dinner, though.
Restaurants everyone loves--except you
Looks like Leslie Brenner would vote for Abacus...
Actually, she seems to have several to add to this list.
Hillcountry Style BBQ in Dallas area
Baker's Ribs potato salad is pretty awesome, though.
"Top 5" Foie Gras Dishes?
There is a restaurant in Houston called Catalan that serves Foie Gras Bon Bons -- may be similar to what you are describing. They are awesome -- such an over-the-top flavor bomb in the mouth!
"Top 5" Foie Gras Dishes?
I feel like I am reasonably adventurous when it comes to food, but am I the only one that had a big question mark hovering over my head while eating the Tres Vasos at Samar?
Help finding the right restaurant
Cocoa, I think you are the one who is paying the most thoughtful attention to the OP's goals. I agree with considering the Rathbun empire -- check out the Abacus tasting menu (weeknights only) for the big splurge, or Jasper's in Plano since it is closer to Lewisville.
Delivered Pizza in M-Streets Area
Angelo's is good, and Lover's Pizza (new location at Mockingbird/Abrams) is fast and decent. Neither are as good as Scalini's or Campania at their best, but you can give it a shot...
Eating in Gulf Shores AL
Just got back from a week in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, and I have to give several "+1"s to this thread. We really enjoyed Gulf Shores Steamer for the buckets of Royal Red Shrimp, although the setting was a little plain. Next time I would try to sit on the back patio and watch the boats in the bay. Original Oyster House was outstanding -- it looks like an old classic that seems to do all the little things well. Lots of places like this would rest on their laurels, but service and food were great. Even the little things and side dishes, like the hush puppies and red beans and rice, were very good. Deserves its longevity. Lastly, Cosmo's was excellent. Very enjoyable patio and relaxed setting, super friendly service, and a surprisingly thoughtful menu and wine list. Steamer and Oyster House were great with kids, but I would save Cosmo's for your more civilized "date night." I would be very happy to return to any of these places.

Foodie area to stay in Dallas?
In the lobby of building A of Medical City, there is now a branch of Society Bakery -- awesome cupcakes, petit fours, birthday cakes, and good bakery treats. This is one of the better bakeries in town, way better than what you would ever expect to find in a hospital lobby!

Would like Oak Cliff restaurant recommendation
Bolsa, Hattie's, Tillman's Roadhouse??? All great, but Bolsa is the hot new thing.
Birthday dinner in Ft. Worth? Help me pick a place?
Haven't been to Lonesome Dove, but it is definitely on my short list, along with Bonnell's, of places I want to try for Texas cuisine. We really enjoyed Lanny's for dinner, and the Cafe Modern at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is great for lunch or Sunday brunch. Love Shack is Tim Love's burger place in the Stockyard's -- great for a casual lunch, sometimes has live music, outdoors only, should be nice this time of year.
"Healthy" restaurants in Dallas
York Street has enough options to try lots of beautiful, thoughtful, delicious food without feeling stuffed to the gills when you leave.
