How far in advance do you need/ can you book for difficult reservations?

thank you! They're both on my list, I'll cross my fingers that they'll both be open when we're there.

We'll be in Paris in August and wondering how soon restaurants like Frenchie take reservations? I know it will depend on their actually being open in August...

Does the Lo-Cal zone still exist?

It was on Rush near Walton. I used to go there in high school and get pizza with non-fat cheese. I think they also had good veggie burritos, if I remember correctly. It was one of the first places that offered low fat, dairy free, etc. I don't live in Chicago anymore, but I'm wondering if it's stil there?

Any update on Catch, the new restaurant on St. Clair West?

I think it's by the Rushton people. Is it happening?

Need rec for dining at bar on Lincoln Road tonight!

My husband is at the Ritz on Lincoln Road for a conference, and will most likely head out for dinner alone tonight. He's looking for a restaurant within walking distance or short cab ride, where he can eat at the bar. No sushi. Through my brief research, I've found Meat Market and Altamare. Any feedback or other suggestions.

Need a cafe/lounge/bar quiet enough to talk with ample seating, somewhere close to downtown...

I have to organize a parent social. We need a place for about 20 adults to gather for a couple hours on a weekday evening. It should have enough places to sit for most, allow us to talk, and be located somewhere between Queen and St. Clair. Any ideas?

Birthday Resto in the Annex

I live in the Annex, and there isn't anything in the neighborhood that comes even close to qualifying as a bday restaurant based on food and/or atmosphere. That said, Guu might be the closest, but it doesn't take reservations.

Now available: Chicago-style deep dish pizza - downtown Toronto

I'm originally from Chicago and have eaten at most of the deep dish pizza places in Chicago. I think it's funny that they call this Original Chicago Style deep-dish pizza, but the toppings include smoked chicken and ratatouille!

Help with restaurant recommendation

Bridget, the roti lady is back!

I think she usually she doesnt' have it on Fridays, because she has other specials like oxtail, sometimes goat.

How bad can service be before it ruins the meal?

I agree with this. I was at a very popular, extremely hard to get into restaurant in Chicago over the weekend, and had a waiter who just didn't seem like he cared at all. So, nothing so downright terrible it made a funny story to tell friends, just an experience that made a meal with overall excellent food and atmosphere significantly less enjoyable.

Best sushi bar on the strip?

Looking to plan for late-night dinner when we arrive in December...

Choose one - David Burke Primehouse or Chicago Cut

which has the edge on food, atmo, service?

Do I need reservations for Aviary?

Or is it walk in only? Are they open 7 days a week? Would love to go for a drink when we're in town in July (and hoping for Next tickets too!)

Bridget, the roti lady is back!

After all the articles about her and the disastrous A la Carte program, I thought for sure we wouldn't see her this year, but she is back at the corner of Bay & King, outside Commerce Court. So happy! She only had chicken today, but she said the beef would be back soon, and hopefully the shrimp/pumpkin.

Chef Allen's or Timo?

Trying to think of a good place for a drink near Woodlot, assuming we have a wait for a table tomorrow night. What's good within walking distance?

MacDonald's Shamrock Shakes returning to Canada

I had a shamrock shake at a McDonald's in TO a couple years ago. Think I saw them last year too.

May 2012 Wedding in NYC for 25/30 people

I was married in 2005 at 11 Madison Park. I'm pretty sure the prices were different then (cheaper) but we had a great experience. They have separate rooms on the 2nd level that overlook the dining room.

Kid friendly with good food in Escondido?

We will be staying in Escondido (Lawrence Welk) for a week starting xmas day. Is there anywhere good to take the kids (ages 4 & 2) that we don't have to drive more than 15 mins? Open to all kinds of food. Thanks!

Starfish, Blowfish, or Yuzu

DH and I have been to many restaurants lately. These are 3 that we haven't been to (well, we were at Blowfish many years ago, but don't remember it). We have a date night on Saturday and are trying to figure out where to go - which of these 3 has the best food?
Thanks!

Casual Thanksgiving dinner?

As a displaced American, I'm feeling a little down. I'd like to take my 2 kids (ages 2 & 4) for an early dinner somewhere. Can anyone recommend somewhere relatively casual? Anywhere between downtown and Lawrence is good.
Thanks!

Sushi Couture for Nice Dinner Out?

No. Sushi Couture is a neighborhood sushi restaurant that's better food-wise than the other places on Bloor, but is nothing atmosphere wise. There is no bar, the decor (which I don't believe they really changed from the "dim-sum" place that used to be in the space), is cheap looking, IMO.

Help us remember name of restaurant off 401 near London

My parents drive regularly from Chicago to Toronto. Last time they stopped at a place just off the 401 somewhere near London. They describe it as a chain that's in Canada but not in US, family/roadhouse type. Ring any bells?

need your best beef brisket recipe

I don't cook very much, but need to step things up a notch. I love beef brisket and would love to make one for my family. Who has a good and easy one with carrots, etc.?

What's the deal with Bloor St./Annex restaurants and closings?

We've been in the neighborhood for 5 years now, and I am astonished at the number of empty storefronts that have remained closed the entire time we've been there, not to mention the turnover off the food establishment business. We went away for 2 weeks in Sept., and in just that amount of time I've seen the following closures/reopenings/reincarnations etc.: Organics on Bloor, the place that used to be Dooney's, the other tea place, Nataraj, and the addition of Sushi Couture.
Can the neighborhood not support decent restaurants? That's not to say all of these places were decent, but why can't we get something good, and not another mediocre sushi place?
