I want to try foie gras...

I second the suggestion of preparing foie gras at home--it is very easy and you can try different sauces. I have ordered foie gras from Sonoma and from Hudson Valley.

Ethiopian coffee service - all fresh roasted and everything

Indeed, you should order it as you are ordering your food. I used to order it after the meal at Merkato and at Messob, and it was not a problem, but once at Merkato they reluctantly took the order and then, as we were waiting, the waitress, as she walked past our table every few minutes, kept telling us that they had not started on our coffee yet. We left, coffeeless :(. And at Rosalinda's they refused to serve us coffee without a meal.

Sushi lunch on Friday: Kiriko or Zo

Reservation advised. At Kiriko it's better to make a reservation, as it seems more crowded. I've made reservations at Zo for 6 pm, but it started filling up around 7 pm. My bill at Zo for two has ranged from $200 to $250 for omakase (including drinks and tip).

Mother-in-Law and Aunt B-Day Dinner Westside

I went there with a 60+ and 70+ couple, and they did not enjoy it because our waitress kept pushing us to share the dishes, "family style", while the dishes really did not lend themselves to that type of dining. I could ignore that, but my guests, though they liked the food, were really annoyed because they could not enjoy it to the fullest. But maybe it just depends on the server. The food was delicious.

Sauce for artichokes

Curried mayo has been my sauce forever--that's the one I'm tired of. Will try people's suggestions. Thanks.

Sauce for artichokes

I got tired of my usual sauce for dipping artichokes. What do you eat artichokes with?
