(CCC) CUP CAKE CRAVES
A meeting took me to 4th Ave this week and afterwards a friend and I wanted to sit and chat. Next to our meeting place was the The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co. Super cute (small) place. My friend and I split the coconut and the almond cupcakes (unfortunately, she's allergic to chocolate) - they were easily the best cupcakes I've had. Super moist cake and icing that was amazingly light. I asked the owner (?) what the top 3 were and he pointed to the Tomato Soup, German Chocolate, and Red Velvet.
Great tea selection. No espresso - but french press coffee.

Best Restaurants of the Pacific Northwest?
First, I'm jealous. Sounds like a fantastic trip. Since you said it was a culinary trip - you and your fiance must have some ideas as to what you'd like to try/experience. Have you read up on the PNW as far as the food scene goes - or are you starting here in your research? (not being snarky - just trying to get a better idea of where to point you.)
There are SO many places to suggest. Give us a little more detail and you'll be put on the right course.
Hip/Cool restaurants in Seattle
Kings Hardware in Ballard is a fun place to go for drinks and light food. You could start there and then there a several places - within walking distance - to go for dinner.
I agree with the other posters - Spur is pretty cool - but very loud and, if you have a lot of people, seating could be troublesome.
Quinn's food is fantastic. Barrio is interesting to look at. It is extremely loud when full - so maybe not a great place if you're trying to catch-up with old friends. Via Tribunali's front area is nice and light, and the food is pretty good - not inventive tho'.
I haven't been to a new place called Poppy - but a fair amount of people like it. It would fit your list of casual and inventive. You could search that one and read the reviews to get a feel for it.
Let's us know what you ended up choosing. Have fun!

Terrier - the cool thing about having these boards is to have a conversation with each other. I particularly enjoy it when people from other areas (and I have been that person in other cities) write in and ask "us" where we would suggest they go. It's interesting to see who "we" recommend and why.
Think of it this way - The thread is the restuarant, Foodie9981 is the customer - you are the server. How would you answer the customers question when asked: "What would you recommend here?"
Your snotty reply is just not necessary. Seriously. Be gracious, be nice, show some hospitality.
Pegasus on Alkai
Yes, it's still located on Alki - in fact, it moved to bigger digs. I haven't been since the move, but if the steady stream of customers is any indication - things are still tasty!
A place to find good quality Dark Chocolate (used for confections) in Seattle?
Second mrleson. I wouldn't be surprised if you find many other wonderful ingredients to inspire you. It's a great resource.
High-End Restaurant Supply in Seattle?
PFI - Pacific Food Imports usually has a nice variety of good chocolates. http://www.bigjohnspfi.com
Qube
Because they didn't do enough business to stay in business.
1) Bad, bad location, 2) bad, bad, logo, and 3) a complete lack of coherence between the concept and the name. (plus whatever internal factors may have contributed to the demise.)
It just never came of the gate as a winner, which is unfortunate, because it seemed that the owner's intentions were authentic and from a good place.
weird/kitschy seattle restaurants?
Bizzarro Italian in Wallingford. Food and kitschy atmosphere are great! Also, the decor at Icon Grill could be classified as...overkill in the weird/frenetic catagory. Food is not bad.
News about MATT'S IN THE MARKET (SEA)
I think Nancy at the Times reported on that last month.
Buying "grown-up"...
pots and pans! I'm finally going to buy myself a high quality set of cookware. I'd like to go stainless - able to go stovetop to oven. I also don't want coated stuff.
What are your suggestions? (Oh, I'm willing to spend about $300 - $400)
Sea: Locally made artisan cured meats
I'm looking for other local "companies" - besides Salumi - that make and wholesale artisan cured meats.
