Sweetwater Bar and Grill-Boynton Beach

Ive been wanting to try this for a while but the fact that they havnt updated the website since nov 2011 rubs me a bit the wrong way... just seems like someone doesnt care enough I was honestly a bit worried about what I would find when i got there.

Save me From Red Lobster in West Palm Beach

I would never recomend someone take their elderly relatives to Howleys. Tattooed hipsters galoore, ok place for breakfast, thats about it.

Rustic Inn Crab House

last check it was 14.50... not bad I don’t remember them having a VAST selection, but fresh

Rustic Inn Crab House

Yeah I agree, I am also a huge fan of rustic inn, even converted my snobby chef husband.
I take all out of towners here for at least one meal. And every time they have asked to go back upon return. It’s a great time.

- Katz I think this is a great quintessential NY pick. It is unique and you can always get food to share. An experience worth having if you have never been.

- Ippudo Personally I really enjoy the house ramen here, however there is always a very long wait, even when I have been there only with a party of two. And I would consider this pretty pure asian, not fusion.

- Di Fara and/or Grimaldi's Even as a born and raised NYer I have never been to either. However even though I have always wanted to try diFara, it is a major trek, and there’s not really anything else there. Although living in Chicago I would suggest trying some NY pizza. I don’t know if you had it in mind but Paulie Gees in Greenpoint is quite good, plus you can always hit Diamond Bar or Spyten Dyvil for your boyfriends beer tastes afterward, two of my top picks for beer.

- Halal (in drunken haze) personally I do not think you need to be in a druken haze in order to enjoy the halal cart, I love it any time of the day 

I am also a HUGE fan of Publican in Chicago, with that said I think you would enjoy Stanton Social, a place I really enjoy for its eclectic nature. Although I have never been for brunch, so I cannot speak to that.

I also love Sakagura but it is what I would consider much more authentically Asian.

Degustation does a wonderfully priced meal, however it is a very small restaurant. I would definitely check with them about accommodating your party.

momofuku ssäm has a prix fix for a large parties, might be worth considering. DBGB might also be worth checking out, I am a huge Boulud fan and café bolud or db bistro moderne would be much higher on my recommendation that WD-50.

For beer scene in New York I recommend the ginger man, you can do great flights here and staff is really knowledgeable. Also Blind tiger is a great idea. Like I mentioned before Spyten dyvil and the diamond bar are great in Brooklyn, as is Brouwerij Lane.

Carded in our Mid 50s!

Went to a bar recently with my mom and boyfriend, mom and I got carded, I am in my 30’s her in her late 50’s. Boyfriend also in his 30’s and did not get carded, he was the only one upset, LOL!

But really if it’s the restaurant policy, it just is. Same as “no substitutions”, “sharing charges”, etc. You might not like it, but it is their right to enforce an obviously nondiscriminatory policy.

As a former server myself, I enjoyed having to ask everyone for id, it took the guess work and legal ramifications out of my corner.

I have no problem at all being ID’d. In fact I get carded way more now in NY and FL then I ever did pre 21! I smile and whip out that sucker as fast as possible every time. At a baseball game last weekend, I was carded twice by 2 different people for the same beer and didn’t bat an eyelash.

People need to just relax and enjoy themselves, isn’t that why you were out in the first place?

I was just going to say an almost identical post, re yelp.
I pass it on my way home from work, it seems busy, but that might just be the new car smell.

Eataly NYC

“…advertising that you could do half orders” and trying to order one “off menu” is quite a different thing though no?
I think half orders are a phenomenal way to get to try multiple menu items, but I agree that I don’t see the trend catching on so much in NYC unless you are at a place geared specifically as “small plate”.

Although I agree that a simple bruschetta seems like a reasonable request. I don’t think we should assume it’s the restaurants policy to discriminate against solo diners, it might have been a lazy cook or a greedy waiter, and you can never be sure.
The OP didn’t specify if there was a reason given or who and how he/she was told “no”.
No restaurant HAS to modify any item if they chose not to, items are costed out and are put on the menu a specific way, and yes making a profit is one reason for that. I do not really have a problem with them saying no to a modification of a menu item.

With that said personally I was very disappointed by the customer service I received on my own venture to Eataly in Manhattan. What made it worse is my total love of the Torino version I was so hoping to see a duplicate version of closer to home.
I found this one phony, overpriced and overcrowded.

7 nights in Brooklyn

Greenpoint is my neighborhood, so Ill stick with that too and a smattering of williamsburg

I’ve been to Paulie Gee's only once. I thought it was OK, to be fair I got take out and although I live very very close I have a feeling it detracted from how good the pizza really is, since they get such wonderful reviews all of the time I would be willing to try again

Lomzynianka is the best polish hands down, I believe Cash only….

Brouwerij Lane is my favorite place for buying beer, while Diamond bar is my top place for drinking it. Both are worth a stop in my opinion

Steves is better than Kiszka Meat Market and the lines are usually shorter

Diner has been one of my favorite spots for dinner in Williamsburg for some time now.
Dressler is also quality, but if I had to choose one it would be the former.

Fette Sau is my number one pick on your list, for me it is a must and spyten dyvil is right across the street, also my top pick for a drinking establishment. Can you tell I am a beer drinker??

I do recommend Smorgasburg, like I said before I think it’s a nice quick representation of a lot of Brooklyn cuisine. Milk bar included

7 nights in Brooklyn

If you plan to go to smorgasburg, you can skip the stop at MILK, they are there and have both compost cookies and crack pie

I know I got me some last weekend
YUMMY!!

I think smorgasburg is worth checking out, since they have such a varity of vendors there, and some yummy BK spots, minus the travel.

you would recomend Mysitc pizza as good food though? I agree it is a destination, but I wouldnt recomend it for quality food...

Vacation in Mystic, on to Block Island, looking for recommendations

<< found Abbott's in another thread and I think we will definately try it.
We are staying at the Manases and will eat there and report.>>

Good choices, please do. Also if you have time an island tour from migs rig is always a great bet. Ask for Jim he gives a knowledgeble tour, both food and non food related. migs rig 401-480-0493

Vacation in Mystic, on to Block Island, looking for recommendations

I cant think of anything outstanding in Mystic. in years past I have always had good meals at abbots in Noank. Or The seahorse in Groton.

On Block Island I would recommend The Narragansett Inn for dinner, recently dined there with their new chef and ownership and was pleasantly surprised.

Also the same for Dead Eye Dicks, both have my favorite dinning view from the island and I also think both are excellent picks.

Lunch I would do the beachhead or the Oar, both BI institutions.

Past years I have enjoyed the Manases and Elis however I haven’t had the pleasure to have dinner there this season, so I cannot make a whole hearted recommendation.

For desert the ice cream place in town was really excellent a few weeks ago.
