ABBOCCATO in the Blakely Hotel
Not formal at all, will be at the Blakely meeting out of town friends who suggested eating at Abbaccato because it is in the hotel.. I did not find that menu inviting at all..they wanted to go to someplace we could have a drink with a veiw, supposedly the view is really nice from their lounge...it got good reviews on zagat and I figured why niot give it a try..I was thinking JoJo or Triomphe.. I have no idea I wanted them to go down to the village but every place I suggested was a no..I think they want to stay around the Times Square/Rockerfeller Plaza/Theatre area..so to hop a cab and go to Print isn't a bad idea.
ABBOCCATO in the Blakely Hotel
Like to keep it in the price range of 100 bucks per person with a glass of wine or two.

Thanks boboq I will check them out..have you ever tried Print?
ABBOCCATO in the Blakely Hotel
Yes I definitely agree with you.I use zagat as a guide then I usually ask chowhound ..it has seemed to formulate success in my experience... I definitely have never been steered wrong when using this method while traveling..I have found some great restaurants on my travels using this.. I usually try to review restaurants with a 23-24 or above rating and not really even bother with anything under a 22...and what is haute cuisine to someone is not to someone else..it is all realative isn't it...what someone from the midwest thinks is a fantastic dining experience someone from NYC might not agree...I have used zagat combined with Chowhound to find great restaurants in the states and abroad was well..I love chowhound..the best!!
Print...anyone been to Print?
I am contemplating going to Print this Sunday night with vistors from NC...I want good food and a nice place to have a drinks with our friends...feedback would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Thanks for the input, I am definitely not going to Abboccato..have you ever been to Print? The rooftop bar is suppoose to have a nice view of the skyline and the food seems good..at least on zagat it got a 25 for food and a 25 for decor and people raved about it on zagat...I am thinking of giving it a try.

Chipped my favorite bakind dish!!!
I have a stainless stell Oneida serving dish that is beautiful with a decorative lid and it has a glass baking dish insert...I chipped the top rim of the glass dish. Can I still bake something in it or will it shatter in the oven if I attempt this?? I wanted to use it for thanksgiving. Please let me know if anyone has attempted to bake in a glass dish that has a chip in it..THANK YOU!!!
Where to get gumbo without seafood?
I had the best gumbo ever at Herbsaint, it was duck gumbo, it might have been a special, but it was sublime!!

Looking for Baby Suckling Pigs
Does anyone know where I can purchase baby suckling pigs on Long Island?
My short Trip
My trip was too short!! But the food was great. Here are the best things we ate. Duck Gumbo at Herbsaint...sublime!!! The mussels at Crepe nanou, the best mussels I ever ate!!! The crepe dessert was awesome. Loved Crepe Nanou. Filet Mignon with foie gras butter in a port wine sauce at Bistro Daisy...EXCELLENT!!! The meat was done to perfection, the spinach, potatoes soooo good..it was a perfect meal. The BBQ shrimp at Mr B's Bistro...heaven on earth, with the bread to soak up all that sauce, really good, but MESSY!!!! Those were the highlights, someone recommended Ignatius for "great" food at a reasonal price...the place is a dump!!! The boudin was aweful, my husband said the seafood gumbo was good, I didn't even try it. Stay away!!!
OPA in Islip Anyone been????
I was thinking of going to Opa in Islip tonight, has anyone been there yet and if you have what do you think?? Thanks hounds!!!
OK Down to the Wire.. you Decide
I have 2 lunches and two dinners..Ok I am heading down again on Monday here are my picks. I will not be able to get to all of them so could you put them in the order you think I should go? Thanks!!
Le Crepe Nanou dinner
Bistro Daisy dinner
Sara dinner
Dante's Kicthen dinner
Luke lunch
Herbsaint lunch
August lunch
Bayona lunch
5 days, my choices: iris, herbsaint, August, Dick and Jennys, Bristro Daiseys, Dantes kitchen, Galatroirs, Geautreas, and or Mr.Bs
Bistro Daisy I went with a group everyone loved it. August the food is fantastic, it is expensive, I would go for lunch unless money is not an issue. Herbsaint, I loved their gumbo, it was awesome. All of the choices you made are solid. I haven't been to Dante's Kitchen..I am pondering going when I am down there the end of the month. Enjoy!!! Go Saints
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Well I think I will take Mandina's off my list and probably hit Herbsaint for Gumbo, I had Gumbo at Herbsaint on a trip to NOLA last January and the Gumbo was awesome...they are open for lunch, can you just sit at the bar and have gumbo or would you need to sit?
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Thanks laqstudent, I will have to look up Butcher on zagat as i have no idea where it is, and Madina's I have heard of but do not know where it is either. I can't wait ti get down there...one more week!!! I am so looking forward to the restaurants!! I am jonsing for gumbo!!!
AFTER MUCH RESEARCH..DANTE's KITCHEN OR LA CREPE NANOU??
I am all about the food...the "vibe" not so much as the food. I had one of my most memorable meals in Lisbon at a complete dive that only locals frequented that our cabdriver from the airport brought us to. It was awesome and i remember pulling up to it and walking in and thinking my god what have we gotten ourselves into!!! If the restaurant decor is appealing that just makes it all the better. Thanks for the input.
AFTER MUCH RESEARCH..DANTE's KITCHEN OR LA CREPE NANOU??
Ok I really looked for restaurants uptown that are open on Monday night and I have narrowed it down to Dante's Kitchen or Crepe Nanou. I have not been to either one of these restaurants on my many trips to NOLA. Which would you choose? I will also be going to Sara's, Luke, Bistro Daisy..might have to take one of those off, do to time restraints. I can make reservations at Dante's but not LCN...ok hounds what do you say...DK or LCN????
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
I have never been to D&J in all of my trips to NOLA, I have been to Patois and Herbsaint and I loved the gumco at both, but I think Herbsaint has it for me..GREAT Gumbo. Come on hounds I want to have the best gumbo this trip!!!
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Where is that? Molly's on Market Street or Molly's on Market is the name??
Help!! I need a Suffolk County Great Restaurant to Host a Baby Shower for about 50 People!!!
Hi, I am looking for a nice retaurant to host a baby shower for about 50 people. Eastern Suffolk, south shore is perfered, but not a must. Some where between West Islip to maybe Westhampton. North Shore Smithown,St James, Middle Island, Miller Place, Port Jefferson, Rocky Point. Please suggest a nice place as I have no idea where to even strat looking!! Thanks!!!
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Thanks I meant to say I'd like to have gumbo and boudin, not that I thought it came as a side order. I think the best gumbo I ever had in NOLA might have been at Herbsaint. Had some good gumbo at Commanders as well. I love gumbo and I really would like people's opinion on where they think the best bowl is. ( Boudin isn't as important to me as the gumbo)
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Thanks Edible, as for the boudin, I had it last trip to NOLA for the first time, and I really liked it. I had no idea it was considered a no no at good restuarants, I really enjoyed it. LIke I said a great bowl of gumbo and some boudin on the side would be great for lunch before we hit the airport home!!!
Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??
Okay I have made up my mind to my restuarants...pretty much...but that said in your opinion where can I get the best bowl of gumbo at lunch time in New Orleans??? And if I could get some Boudin to go along with it that would be great!! Thanks, I am so excited to get back down to your great city.
My picks this trip:
Sara's
Le Crepe Nanou
Luke
Mila
Or I might substitute Bistro Daisy for one of the above...but I am still searching for that unbeatable bowl of gumbo with boudin on the side!!!
Thanks all!!!
Four meals decided, but one bourbon-fueled wild card left
Hey Fast Eddie, I can totally relate to your Bayona story!! I did the same thing in October with Bistro Daisy..everyone raved, but I can't remember much, leaving me wanting to return. I have eaten in Bayona a few times, the food is excellent, I actually had the garlic soup the last time I was there, which was last january and it was FANTASTIC. The whole fixed price lunch was fabulous. I have eaten dinner there too, always great. I was to August last October and found it to be top notch. I love foie gras and after the waiter told me they would make me anything I wanted even if it wasn't on the menu I asked for foie gras as an appetizer...oh my GOD!!! Foie gras three ways, so rich and creamy, to die for, only thing it was so rich I could barely eat my entree, that said the food is very rich and satisfying, so you don't need a lot of it. Great restauant, great service, very nice choice. I love the Carousel Bar and you can always run across the street and grab some BBQ shrimp at Mr. B's Bistro. Have a great time I head back down January 25th!!! Go Saints!!!
