Indebleu review

I agree with your reply, but I think you are being overly generous. I found my service to be lackluster as well and way too much attitude, even for DC. The hostess was annoyed that we didn't want to have a drink at their bar, even though they were blaring dance music in their and they were holding a singles event. I was clearly there on a date.

For that price point, I'd much rather go to Rasika where they treat you better and the food is much better. Indebleu is scrathed off my list.

Dinner in Philly?

So I am making a last minute trip up to Philly this weekend and am looking for dinner ideas. Was thinking about Tinto or Paloma. There will be two of us. We want some really good food and don't want to spend much more than like $100 plus booze. suggestions?

Gordal olives

So we had dinner last night at Bistro Campagne over near Montrose Park. They used gordal olives in their martinis. Does anyone know where I can find them? They were DELICIOUS and literally the size of eggs. Totally worth the mild hangover this AM.

Sour/Tart Cherries

We actually got sour/tart cherries from a Michigan grower at the Green City Market yesterday. They were neon red and pert little buggers. We are not making a pie but wanted them for brandied cherries. We are more boozers than dessert people.

Sweet Cakes

Okay, so as a cupcake aficionado, I was excited to try this new-to-me bakery that specializes in dynamic flavor combos. I was all pumped to try the red velvet cake with white chocolate cream cheese icing. Hands down the WORST red velvet cake I have ever had. Literally, worse than the stuff you buy at the grocery store. Despite the fact that it was cold (yes, the cardinal rule of cake is to eat it at room temp, but there were no other options), it was hard as a rock. Then to make matters worse, there was nothing red about it. It was a dried out dark brown chocolate cake. Hell, it might have been a brownie.

My partner had a coffee with cream and sugar mini-cupcake which was fine but also cold and somewhat flavorless.

I was so disappointed, that I felt I should let the owner guy know. Afterall, if I was going to complain to others, he should know. He offered me my money back and told me that no one else had ever complained. Perhaps they had a really off day? Perhaps they need to keep some cupcakes out of the cooler. It was an adorable space and I really wanted to like it. C'est la vie. I will not be going back there any time soon.

No valet at corks?!

I am just curious why some restaurants in the federal hill area (in balto) don't have valet parking. I tried to go to Corks this past Friday night and drove around for twenty minutes looking for a parking spot to no avail. Even the garage was full! WTF??!! In chicago or DC, they would have had valet parking. Come on people, throw me a bone. We ended up at wine market for a fantastic meal. I will now step off my soap box (albeit feeling better post rant).

New to me diner in Baltimore

I may have to try this Mike's Place. I am sick of waiting in line and paying too much for Miss Shirley's or Gertrudes for brunch.

New to me diner in Baltimore

I thought I'd post this for the rest of you out there looking for good cheap eats in the baltimore area. I went to David's on Falls Road in Hampden (near the intersection of Falls and 36th). It was really good food for next to nothing. Seriously, two people can eat a good meal for $20. Something easy for dinner when I feel lazy. THey make all their own stuff, homemade mashed potatoes and a full turkey dinner. Their meatloaf is silly. Breakfast is pretty good. Never much of a wait and it is way better than Cafe Hon or City Cafe (both of which are grossly overpriced for what you get in my book).

Next choice in Baltimore??

I really like Indigma. Instead of doing a tradiional buffet, they do indian tapas. I really like it. Now, it is no rasika, but it is good enough where I'd take my parents when they come visit (being from India and all)

DC for the weekend. 1st time there. Your top 5?

I loved Central, Banana Cafe (kick ass margaritas and all around good cuban), Rasika (can't recommend that place enough, awesome indian, great decor) and La Tasca (spanish tapas). Brunch is difficult as I don't like bloody mary's, but bread and chocolate near eastern market has some tasty coffee.
