Locally made turtles?
Brilliant - that is also right on my way home from work. Thanks!
Locally made turtles?
I'm looking to get some candy for someone out of town who loves turtles (the chocolate-covered caramel candy with nuts, usually pecans), and I'd like to showcase something local if possible. Are there any candy shops in NYC known for making them? Thanks!
Caribbean/West Indian groceries?
I'm helping put together a table of Caribbean food for a party, and would like to get some miscellaneous groceries to go along with the entrees - soft drinks, candies, snack foods, etc. Being rather short on time and transportation, I'd like to see if I can get a good selection in only 1 or 2 stops. What would be a good all-in-one stop (preferably near the subway)?
Ethiopian groceries/markets, etc.?
Are there any markets in Manhattan (or the outer boroughs, for that matter) where I might be able to purchase injera and other Ethiopian foodstuffs? I've found a few past posts with the same question (e.g. http://www.chowhound.com/topics/360909), but no replies.
International bulk candy?
I'm looking to fill a few candy bowls with interesting stuff from around the world. Where can I get individually-sized, individually-wrapped candy? (I've already checked Economy Candy).
Turkey dog, chicken dog, or otherwise reduced-fat NYC-style hot dogs?
I like hot dogs for a quick lunch on the go, but I can't afford to consume 60% of my daily allowance of fat all at once. Aside from the perenially sketchy Papaya Dog at 6th Av and 4th Street (whose turkey dog is at least serviceable, with the assistance of sauerkraut and onions), where can I get a more nutritionally-friendly substitute?
Thanks!
Bulk frozen/refrigerated pierogi?
I'm looking to get a large quantity of pierogi for a food festival, and while I really don't want to stoop so low, I know I can get almost 300 Mrs. T's pierogi for $50 at Pathmark. Since I'm using someone else's funding, I can't deviate too much from that in the name of quality. Anyone know of a place where I might be able to match that?
Lots of inexpensive Italian pastry and/or antipasto platter?
I'm looking to get large quantities of cannoli, assorted cookies, an antipasto platter, etc. for an Italian-themed reception. While quality is nice, too, I'm working on a limited budget. Any go-to places for this sort of thing?
Thanks.
Quiet dinner for 12, $30/person near Wash. Sq.?
It'll be a fairly young crowd, but I'd prefer something more conducive to conversation. No particular cuisine in mind, although with 12 people there's bound to be a few unadventurous diners or people w/dietary restrictions. Thanks!
Bountiful ceviche?
I'd like to get a big, fairly inexpensive plate of ceviche (much like the ones I used to have at Nayarit-style seafood places in Chicago, although I'm certainly open to Peruvian- and Ecuadorean-style ceviche as well). I know previous posts have endorsed La Pollada de Laura in Queens, but it appears to be closed. Any suggestions?
Burger & Fries through the wall - Jackson or Van Buren?
I don't recall (and I've certainly never been there), but just guessing off the top of my head, could it be Cal's Bar/Peppers Sandwich Shop on Van Buren between Wells and Franklin?
