Boston Chowhound looking for guidance
Hi Toronto friends! I'm coming back for another visit, will effectively have 3 potential dinners and 3 potential lunches. Will have a car, if hat matters. We aren't looking for extravagant, or very expensive, but anything interesting, ethnic or otherwise is perfect. Any new places that I have to try? Any other food trips worth making, ie kitchen stores, grocery stores or general 'hound destinations that don't involve restaurants? I will be coming the first week of August. Cheers!
Non-beef "burgers"
Not happy with my results so far; salmon burger at Henrietta's Table, Tuna Burger at Citizen, veggie burgers at Publick House and Grafton Street, Turkey Burger at Ashmont Grill. Ashmont was the best of the lot, Henrietta's and Citizen close to inedible. Not giving up yet!

Personal chef?
Try Cambridge Culinary. They have a list of personal chefs on their alumni page, or you can contact them directly and they will reach out to all alumni and you will receive plenty of responses I'm sure.
Boston's best burger?
I remember it sounding good on paper, but we've been fooled by that before.
Boston's best burger?
I almost went on my birthday, did the Rialto burger instead...that was a mistake.
Non-beef "burgers"
one or two veggie burgers will suffice, but most of the time they end up tasting like stovetop stuffing mix.
Non-beef "burgers"
I have the salmon burger at Henrietta's Table on my list.

Non-beef "burgers"
Forget the debate about what is and isn't a burger, let's save that for another day. For now, I'm trying to compile a list of the best non-beef "burgers" in the area. I don't want to make this a thread only on veggie burgers, I'm more interested in the tukey's, the lamb's, and the salmon's of the world.
Boston's best burger?
I'm not hating, if anything I'm defending our city. I think there are plenty of worthy burgers here, it that bums you out it shouldn't.
Boston's best burger?
I don't agree that I only like ten. I can run-off at least 20 or so I would recommend. Maybe more of a reflection of Boston burgers and less about my snobbiness.
Boston's best burger?
thanks! I was doing my best...but they kept asking about places I hate!
Found - Roxy's Grilled Cheese missing truck
Good luck to them. I too find it puzzling when they really just opened and are trying to get famous nationally before they even establish themselves here, kind of doing it in reverse IMO. I also find it irritating when people self-describe their product as "gourmet." It's grilled cheese, it's familiar and gimmicky, but I found it rather expensive and ultimately not very good.
Boston's best burger?
you are being way too kind. when are we meeting up for a burger?

Have You Seen My Ideal Burger in Boston?
good call. Not phenomenal, but fits the bill.
Have You Seen My Ideal Burger in Boston?
For me, griddled doesn't automatically equate to a thinner patty, but to Jenny O's point, the thinner patties are easier to control. It's also about developing a crust, and cooking in it's own fat, you lose all the fat when a burger is grilled, hence the drying out issue.
Kaffir lime leaves?
Russo's has them 75% of the time I'm there, which is 4-5 times a week.
When and where are the good mangoes coming to Boston?
whole foods brighton and newtonville have had them all week.
Bergamot - Nice Place, But not quite up to the level of Ravings I've Read
pretty much exactly how I felt about Bondir last week. Good, but unspectacular.

Cambridge School of Culinary Arts has a ton of alumni who work as private chefs, which is exactly what you need. I would contact them or go the alumni owned businesses page.
51 Lincoln Burger
I don't think price dictates quality, but at its core, a burger should never cost $15, I agree. Either way I liked it.
51 Lincoln Burger
Finally made it in last night for the burger. Spot-on, thick, juicy and flavorful from start to finish. The bread (house-made toast) was well made but didn't fit the bill, at least not for me. I generally think a soft, warm bun is superior to a thick and crusty canvas. The fries were crispy, salty and delicious. Overall an excellent burger/fry combo, for $15 was well worth it.
mushroom cooking class?
a lot of personal chefs also offer in-home cooking lessons, which is what you're after vs. taking a larger class somewhere that may or may not focus on mushrooms. My advice would be to go to the Cambridge Culinary website and contact the personal chefs to learn more. I do know of a couple that fit the bill.
has anyone been to Mass Ave yet?
I went the first week, while the flavors aren't completely original, Chef Dixon has always done a masterful job in the execution department. I'm not sure why it was built around "fondue and sliders" via online media people, it's really just small plates that happens to have fondue and sliders on the menu. Everything I tried was delicious that night, and enjoyed the space very much. Did have some issues with the bartender who took way too long to fix a drink, but the waitstaff was attentive.
evening cooking class for 20.... recommendations?
Cambridge School of Culinary Arts or Create-a-Cook in Newton, which also offers adult cooking classes.
