Byblos or other brunch place in the area

Byblos is the most baby friendly place in Mtl. I saw the hostess (owner?) kiss a baby this morning. And they have toys there too. Buy really, the most amazing thing is the food. Especially the Salade Olivier, imho.

Ossignton - what are your favourites?

A couple months ago I ate at Mamakas and found it great - so much more contemporary and refined than the Danforth Avenue Greek stuff. This week, I ate at Boralia, which was outstanding for those craving adventurous meats (elk, bison, pigeon, venison liver,, sweet breads).

Temaki Express on Danforth

I walk by this place, but I'm never sure about going in. They are open a year with no chowhound reviews yet. Anyone able to comment?

I found it at a Whole Foods in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was tasty!

La Boulange at Starbucks

Many independent coffee shops get their mille feuille pastry delivered daily from places like Jules Patisserie, and it tastes really fresh. I suspect that the Starbucks plan is to bring stuff in a couple times a week and keep selling it until it's gone.

I'm a big fan of Aroma, for their mini cheese danish, which are baked every few hours on site at each and every location.

Toronto Ramen Roundup?

I was pretty impressed with Touhenboku.

Also, about the comment about greasy broth at another Ramen joint, I was in Osaka last year and a local took me to a favourite place on Dotonbori, the fast food capital of Japan. It was greasy there too - salty, garlicky and oily. Tasty.

La Boulange at Starbucks

I had a pain chocolate (commonly miss-named a chocolate croissant) at Starbucks in Toronto last week. I was excited to try something from the new
La Boulange line. It was terrible - stale, mediocre chocolate, and pricy. Anybody else have any experiences to share?

Maha-New Egyptian Sandwiches, Sides and Desserts on Greenwood near Gerrard

I went there mid week for an early dinner - they close at 7 PM. It was only half full. Had a couple of dishes which were both good. The baladi bread was as fine as I remember from Cairo. And the coffee with cardamom was exotic and interesting. The restaurant had a lovely aroma of cumin. Oh yes, and a nice multigenerational family owner vibe. As welcoming as you would expect from an Egyptian establishment. I'll be back.

Hipster Coffeeshop on Pape at Sammon Ave?

OK, OK, Finally, I can say that I have had a soup, two grilled chicken sandwiches and about a dozen cups of coffee at the Goat. The coffee is very good (Ruffino), and they are finally starting to dabble in foam art. The carrot and ginger soup was tasty, and the grilled chicken sandwich is crispy, freshly cooked, with melting goat cheese, mayo and lettuce. It comes with a fresh salad of baby greens. A bit pricey at $10, but actually seemed well worth it to me.

Pretty nice ambience, always fairly busy but I've never failed to get a seat.

A nice addition to the up-and-coming Pape North of Danforth landscape.

Kobo Nobu (Broadview / Danforth) - who's been?

I went back last month, and we were the only customers. It was seven PM on a Wednesday The one waiter was very distracted, so I had to speak up anytime we wanted service. The food was pretty good, but it felt more like an appetizer menu that a real dinner. And it was frustrating that the waiter's english was so limited. I'll be surprised if this restaurant stays in business, but I hope so. However, I need to see them get more focused on the customer.

Family Day - Downtown Lunch

Anybody know what is open in the mid-price range for lunch this Monday Family
Day? I am good with all cuisines as long as it is within the Bloor to Queen, Ossington to Church Street axis.

Grand Electric

After years of hearing about it, I went today. I thought it was ok, with a few caveats. One - this is not Mexican, but rather a Taco joint. Nothing wrong, but I think the term Mexican has been stretched too far in recent years. Two, the food is very sweet, I had the crispy cauliflower, beef cheeks, and chicken. The cauliflower pieces were more or less candied, and the beef cheeks were very sweetened as well as being ultra spicy. Overall, the food was alright, but not as good as a good Mexican-style taco joint, in my opinion.

Scottsdale - Non-Corporate Restos?

I've been in Scottsdale 5 days. Ate some great meals, but always in a super corporate large scale concept-oriented environment. Liked Olive & Ivy, True Food, Sumo Maya and The Herb Box. But I just need to feel a bit more down to earth

Any good mid price food in a non-corporate environment?

Kobo Nobu (Broadview / Danforth) - who's been?

Best chicken karaage I've had anywhere! Also, burdock salad was an unexpected treat. I ate there soon after they opened, in early summer. They weren't totally organized and many items on the menu were unavailable. The service was a bit over-eager. But all in all, a good experience. I plan to go back again soon.

Hipster Coffeeshop on Pape at Sammon Ave?

I just noticed the large "Ford of Mayor" sign in the window of this newly opened coffee shop. So much for the hipster creds, unless he "likes" Ford ironically. lol.

Hipster Coffeeshop on Pape at Sammon Ave?

I'd love the keep this post on track, but I guess the slow progress of building this coffee shop leaves ups little tangible stuff to talk about. I am looking forward to reviewing and reading reviews when it opens. In a couple weeks?

@yakionigiri - I confess my lack of creds - what is "GOAT" versus "goat"?

Actually, i think the goat is a reference to Ethiopian legend in which the animal discovers coffee as a comestible.

Everyday the place gets closer to completion. Lots of nice woodwork coming into place from the look of it. Hope the coffee lives up to expectation.

Hipster Coffeeshop on Pape at Sammon Ave?

Yeah, fair enough. I am actually pro-hipster when it comes to my neighbourhood. There is deplorable lack of appreciation for irony or authenticity in Greektown up to this point.
