Late night dining on a Tuesday night

I can live with Basic...

Late night dining on a Tuesday night

Mrs DD flies in at 2340 and will be hungry. The yakitori place up on 6th St where I took her the last time we did this is now closed. Any suggestions for something good to eat between midnight and one on a Tuesday? Staying at the Marriott Marina, so maybe Basic? There is always Jack in the Box and Rudford's, I guess...

Intimate dinner in FQ or CBD

Mrs DD and I will be in NOLA in a couple of weeks. Working across the country from each other, I look forward to quiet time when we see each other. We're not hard core foodies and like small, intimate places with decent food. Think Irene's in NOLA, Gascogne or the old Le Madeleine in NYC. I'm all for Irene's, but I know she likes to try new places. We'll be at the JW Marriott, so walking distance from there would be best. Thanks!

Bull Valley Inn Port Costa

Anyone been to the Bull Valley Inn, lately? Haven't been there in at least 25 years, but always loved the space and food. We'll be in the Bay Area next weekend and I'm wondering if it's worth the drive from downtown SF on a Sunday evening. Or is it even open on Sunday evening?

Lunch stop SFO to Monterey

A search revealed some recs for Chinese in the SFO area, but daughter might balk at that. Wife and daughter arriving SFO at 11 AM on a Friday and we'll be heading to Monterey. Knowing them, they will want something to eat within an hour of landing, so would appreciate some recs in that 101/85/17 corridor. Most other cuisines are fine, or anywhere with a decent cheeseburger...

Waikiki take-out

Thanks, KM. Had Korean from "ME BBQ" in the pink building last night. Good stuff! Maybe Fatty's tonight...

Waikiki take-out

Spending 3 weeks in the Marriott Waikiki for work and looking for take-out. Sometimes go to Wolfgang Puck Express (okay) and last night had a great tuna-avocado sandwich from Ruffage. Any other good take-out places in the Diamond Head end of Waikiki? I'm probably too lazy to walk to Rainbow and getting the car out for that seems a waste of time. I haven't seen any Chinese take out places down that way...

Corned Beef Hash

Try the CBH at McAleer's on Amsterdam, around 80th. Go there every time I'm in town and love it!

Chablis? Is that a wine?

I realize Maison is not a mecca for foodies, but we like to go there for lunch or brunch when we're in NYC. I like their croque monsieur and my daughter loves the cheeseburger. Anyway, we were there Sunday and the young waiter was obviously very new. Had to keep repeating orders while he wrote, but that's cool. I asked if they had a chablis by the glass and he looked confused, but said he would check. A few minutes later a lady server came to the table asking what I had ordered. When I said I wanted to know if they had a chablis by the glass, she said, "Chablis? Is that wine?" I'm just sayin'...

Downtown on a Friday night

In the Marriott on West Street. Looking at Tribeca and Chelsea. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Downtown on a Friday night

I'll be arriving at the Marriott Financial District about 8:00 PM on a Friday, meeting Mrs DD. Looking for a solid (doesn't have to be foodie-ish) place for dinner. Pretty much anything but Chinese. I'll be traveling all day, so would rather not venture too far afoot. I understand we may have to go to West Village or Chelsea, but that's fine. Would rather stay fairly close to the #1 train. I'm a big fan of Gascogne, but we always go there when we're in town and she may balk. Help? Thanks!

Grand Cafe?

Staying in the Union Square area and looking for a restaurant within walking distance or a short cab ride. Not really locked into the cuisine, just looking for some nice atmosphere and some good food. We don't see each other often and like to maximize our opportunities.

Grand Cafe?

Struck out on my effort to get into Gitane or Cafe Claude for dinner at a decent hour next weekend, so I called my hotel and asked the concierge to have a go at it. He didn't do any better, so he recommended Grand Cafe. I have had a couple of bad experiences with concierge-recommended restaurants in NYC, so I'm a little skeptical. Not much written about GC on this board, so does anyone have an opinion?

San Francisco - romantic with decent food

Mrs DD and I just decided to meet in San Francisco on the weekend before Valentine's Day. Working across the country from each other, the times we get together are special. I'm looking for an intimate place for dinner on Saturday the 12th. We aren't hardcore foodies, so the cuisine is open to just about anything except maybe for Asian. My first choice was Gitane, but they are slammed that night. Any suggestions to help me out? We're staying near Union Square and I would rather leave the car parked. Short taxi ride would be okay, though. Thanks!

Least appetizing food ads?

Currently visiting the Norfolk area and today I saw a billboard ad for Prime Rib at WaWa, which is a regional gas station/convenience store. Just doesn't sound too appetizing to me...

Downtown dinner for 12, some kids

Going to NYC early Dec with wife and some of her dance students. Staying in the Marriott downtown. Wife and I will get our Gascogne fix one night, but at least one night I will be expected to come up with a fun place with decent food for dinner for everyone. So, I'm thinking red sauce Italian in Little Italy. I know most CHers don't like or recommend Little Italy, but this is a group of tourists, not foodies. And 6 of the 12 are 11-12 YO girls.

Anyone have a good idea for me? I'm not locked into Little Italy, just thought it would work. Thanks!

Marina del Rey late evening

Picking up wife at LAX at 8:40 PM on a Thursday night. Spending the night in Marina del Rey and she will be hungry after that long flight. Allowing for flight times and bags, etc, I'm thinking we'll be in the Marina del Rey area about 9:30 - 9:45. Any suggestions for a sit down place with good food and good wine? Just about any cuisine will do.

Santa Ynez Valley winery recs

Mrs DD is coming out to visit while I'm working here. We'll be going to the Santa Ynez area. We've been to some of the usual suspects (Firestone, Koehler, Zaca, Fess Parker) and I was wondering if anyone on this board has a favorite winery to visit. She's more of a white wine person, while I'll drink just about anything that flows downhill. Thanks!

Good steak near LAX

Taking a red-eye east next week and would like a nice steak before I leave. Don't mind a chain like Fleming's or Ruth's Chris. Anything close to the airport?

Best Hamburger in San Diego?

I don't have a dog in this fight because I don't live in San Diego, but...

Staying at the Marriott Gaslamp over the weekend and just wanted a take out burger to eat in the room. Most of the steak houses don't advertise burgers, but I saw one on Lou & Mickey's outdoor menu. Went into the bar and ordered one. Holy Moly, it was good! Large patty cooked perfectly medium. Good garnish on it. Held up well on the short walk back to the hotel. I loved it!

Soup Weather in San Diego

I'm working in San Diego and staying in Old Town. Get a lot of soup from the Whole Foods in Hillcrest and take back to my room. Last week got some of the Chicken Pot Pie soup. Holy Moly, it was good. Most of the others are just okay, but that one was great!

Late weeknight in San Diego

Thanks, all, for some great recs! Both are southern girls, so the Yakitori place might be iffy, but I know I'll try it! Any more recs are welcome. Heck, Rudford's might be the place...

Late weeknight in San Diego

I'm currently working in San Diego and wife and daughter are coming to visit for the long weekend. They will arrive around midnight on a Thursday night and will probably be hungry. Anything open that time of night besides Jack in the Box? Staying in Old Town and probably nothing there, so maybe something in Hillcrest or Gaslamp? Thanks!

Good steak near Fredericksburg?

Working in the F'burg area and am starting to crave red meat. Only options nearby seem to be Outback and Longhorn. Am I missing something better within 30 miles? I'd rather chew on a razor blade than drive up I-95 to DC.

Quiet week night dinner between LAX and Ventura

Picking my wife up at LAX at 7:30 PM on a Thursday and we'll be driving back to Ventura area. Haven't seen each other in a while and I would like a quiet, intimate place between LAX and Ventura. Atmosphere is more important than food on this one. Don't want to drive too far off route due to the lateness of her arrival. Thanks!

Santa Barbara breakfast, Santa Ynez lunch?

We will be staying with friends in Santa Paula and are planning a day trip to the Santa Ynez wineries. Would appreciate recs for a breakfast spot anywhere from Ventura up through Santa Barbara. Also, any lunch recs in the Santa Ynez valley? Thanks!

Gulf Shores, AL (Trip #2)

Your revisit list is fine. I'm not a big Steamers fan, but their Royal Reds are usually worth the visit. Certainly add Cosmo's. I like the banana leaf wrapped fish there. I've never had a good meal at Cotton's in three visits, but it is a popular place.

Two relatively new entries on the local scene are Nolan's (reopening of a very popular GS restaurant that was destroyed by Ivan) and Magnolia Court in Foley. MC is Foley's first attempt at upscale dining and it seems to be off to a good start. I think you can see both their menus online. Haven't been, yet, but it's on the list for the next couple of weeks.

Nolan's is in Sawgrass Landing right on Hwy 59 in GS. Magnolia Court is right on Hwy 59 in downtown Foley.

1985 White Zinfandel

Use it for target practice...

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach.

The Wash House used to be the class of Fairhope, but I haven't been there in quite a while. Lunch places are good in Fairhope...Sandra's, Panini Pete's and Mary Ann's all come to mind. You might also look at Ivey's in Robertsdale and Cousin Vinnie's in Daphne.

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach.

Cosmo's on Canal Road is excellent. The wait can be long, so go prepared. Jesse's in Magnolia Springs has a wonderful atmosphere and the food is very good. Tin Top in Bon Secour, though I wouldn't call it fine dining, puts out some excellent food. Their steaks are top drawer.
