Anyone tried Evan Street Station (DTW)?
About 25 miles from ann arbor, claines to be a destination restaurant?
A gift of cognac
I just bought the Navarre, but have yet to taste it, good story but we will see. I highly recommend the Tesesron Lot 53, at about 199, it is the oldest cognac you can find (from 1953) and comes with 2 riedel glasses. Also the Congac is excellent.

SUSHI REC Masu or Bamboo?
One night to eat sushi in Portland. Posts seem to like Masu and Bamboo. Also Kurata in Lake oswego, but may be a bit far for us. Used to live there but its been 15 years, I prefer traditional sushi, but my wife loves big rolls like Saburo's. Is Saburo's still any good? We will be coming from Raligeh Hills so surrounding areas maybe an option. Also enjoy Itzakaya tye food , because we will have a pregnant woman coming. Thanks.

Ann Arbor - Looking for Pho
Sorry to say both are unacceptable, the true go to place is Windsor, if traffic is good takes 20 min longer. After several years of looking I just make my own, Bob at Sparrows has nice beef shank and bones, as well as brisket. Just char your spices and ginger and the key is black cardamon.

whats the name of the restaurant of the trizest owners?
Terrible Service Peasant
Just returned from our food weekend. On Sat night. I asked for a glass of wine , after cocktail and the server not return until main course was served. We had 4 apps served by runners. We asked our server to wrap up our dinner and she threw it away. Not a full house. Has anyone else had this problem. In general we were not impressed by the service the whole weekend, including EMP and Blue Ribbon Sushi.

Hearth vs Peasant?
Just ate at Peasant last weekend, had a great meal, fun but noisy atmosphere. Service was suprisingly poor but the spit roasted pig was wonderful.

Milkbar overrated
The biggest dissapointment of our trip was Milkbar, prepackaged cookies and crack pie in a mcdonald's apple pie container, is this the best DC has to offer?
Rest of trip was great- Lunch at EMP, Dinner Ippudo, Lunch Blue Ribbon/ Joe Shanghai's, Dinner Peasant, Breakfast at Russ& Daughters.
Where are the better dessert bars? Spot? Cickalicous?

BTW ended up with reservations to EMP lunch, then Rockmeisha for dinner, then Joes Shanghai and Peasant for dinner, then Russ and Daughters and Katz before we leave.

Raku 10 vs 15 course Kaiseki
Just got back from vegas, have the 15 course meal, becuse 2 of our party of 6 couldn't leave the tables and we had to upgrade. It was great, but a massive amount of food I don't know. I was a bit underwelmed by Sage. large party, picked some great bottles of wine, prix fixe was good, but the only outstanding dish was the bruleed fois gras. Lotus of Siam was amazing, my first time there.

Mani osteria Ann Arbor Brief review
At last night at the new small plate/pizzaria. Came in with pretty high expectations, from the chef and owner pedigree of the joint. Service was very friendly, but inexperie was obvious. Many questions about the food , were politely defrred, or the server forgot to follow up on. Mani takes reservations 30min prior, we called but had no wait on arrival. Briely had the Salumi plate/Arinci/Pork Belly/Ricotta and meatball pizza/ Tagiatelli with pepper and trumpet mushrooms/ and the Gelato trio.
Salumi Plate-($16) excellent, sourced from store in Brookyln- pickled veggies had a bit much clove for my taste, but the house mustard was good.
Arinci-($7) very small plate- romesco sauce a bit salty, ans i prefer an more rustic preperation, but acceptable for Ann Arbor.
Pork Belly ($10) will be a big hit I'm sure, small but tasty portion, the caponata was way too sweet and needed much more vinegar to balance and cut the richness of the pork.
Pizza-($14)- I think they are still working out the kinks, dough had nice texture, and toppings were very fresh. Main problems were the saltiness of the crust, and lack of crispness of the crust. I think the ovens were underfired.
Pasta- ($12)Really liked it, nice texture and cooked well, obviously handmade.
Gelato- Very small portion- and average.
A nice meal, will return with friends once some of the kinks are worked out, ie very long wait between courses. A good addition to the area.
Suggestions on my shortlist of fine dining restaurants in NYC (first time)
Curious how much extra was the duck? Should go 3 or 4 courses plus duck? Going to Ippudo later in the night. BTW We are going in a month. Is the souffle in addition to a regualr dessert?

EMP Dinner: 4 Courses plus Duck or Tasting Menu?
I am having lunch at EMP in a month, and am wondering if we should order the duck also. Pictures of the duck look amazing.
Where to buy Old potero and Whistlepig Whiskey?
Thanks, I guess i'm too late to the party, BTW If PVW is too hard to come by, I reccomend the Jefferson Presidential 18, available at Astor at a very good price, last to come from the SW/ Old Fitz distillery. Great bourbon
Where to buy Old potero and Whistlepig Whiskey?
Thanks for the info, I have a bourbon guy who I get Pappy 15 from, I bought the last 3 from the spring shipment. Rumored to be the last of the SW Distillery barrels. If you see any I highly reccomend it. We actually do have PVW still on the shelves a few 20's and quite a few 23. I prefer the 15 to both including the ORVW23. The rye he sold out in November, and am kicking myself for not getting some, but if someone saw it on a dusty store in chinatown, I would be interested. The specific whiskeys I'm looking for are the basic Rittenhouse, Old Potero, Whistle Pig, and Four Roses Marrrige. None are available in Michigan. I'm late to the rye banwagon, because I have always prefered the wheated bourbon, but want to explore it more than the sole bottle of Sazarac I own. Thanks for the info.
Where to buy Old potero and Whistlepig Whiskey?
Looking for the 18th century old Potero, and other Whiskeys, like the Pappy 13 yr Rye, that I can't find in Michigan. Staying in Soho.
Finishing itinerary- Help Please Rustic Italian Crispo vs Supper
Thanks for earlier help, this is a great board. Just got Lunch Reservations at EMP for our weekend in NYC. For Sat night looking for a rustic low key italian , maybe romantic, cozy restaurant. Authentic is key, and atmosphere. In the past have enjoyed Babbo and Lupa, but have not been to NYC in several years. Would prefer to stay below 23rd St. since we are staying in SOHO and wold like to do to a dessert bar afterwards. Considering Peasent, Supper, and Crispo from the posts I have read. Thanks in advance.

Itinerary Critique and Help for Last weekend of Freedom
My wife and I are having a second child, and have one last food getaway. Used to visit regularly, but have not been to NYC in 4 years. Please help with any suggestions or updates. We are coming in for a late lunch Friday and leave after Breakfast Sunday. We used to live in San Francisco and Singapore and are unfortunalty stuck in Ann Arbor. We are total gluttons and always try to fit in way too much on these trips, but we are not obese.
Lunch Friday- Usually Japanese,- in the past have eaten at Yasuda (too pricey but an experience) and Yama, but am looking for a place with handmade Cold Soba and sushi, have penciled in Soba Koh's.
Dinner Friday- Staying near the West Village, we don't want anything too fancy, maybe Gastropub, and don't mind eating early, Thinking spotted pig, or Breslin, but always like hidden gems and less noisy crowds.
Late night Friday- Ramen or Itsykaya, have not heard about much. Ippudo or Setsgaya, too busy in the past. Eaten at severl in the past but forgot, last one was ren ren or something
Sat Am- Somthing light- bagels and lox, Katz? then hit the Soup Dumpling at Joe's more nostalgia than taste, i prefer them small like Din Tai Fung.
Sat- Grazing around Chinatown and little Italy- any suggestions. Usually a slice somewhere, Lomdardi's or Grimaldis'
Sat Dinner- This is the Big One, have eaten at the Big 3 imho and loved each Le Bernadin/Daniel/Per Se want to take it down a notch $, but if its great we will spulge, who knows when we will make it back? Annisa? Anyone had the tasting Menu not listed on website, will travel outside of Manhattan, if really special.
Sat late night- Dessert Bar- best we have come up with is Milkbar
Sunday- Need to eat noon. Artisnal, Prune in past, would not mind something ethnic. Are any of these maketplaces open like Eataly this early.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Chinese food in Detroit [split]
move back to NYC....if not as stated in previous threads, Windsor is the way to go for dim sum, and vietnamese. Thuy Trang at 13 and John R is my go to vietnamese. Recently the Dim Sum at Asia City in Ann Arbor is much improved. No really good Thai, but Thai Cafe in Plymouth is the best. Japanese are about the same I like OK sushi in Canton and Ajisen in Canton not to be confused with Ajiten in Novi.
