Visiting NYC from CA - need help planning a day trip to the Burroughs!

I love Flushing and Elmhurst/Jackson Heights but I would suggest Williamsburg Brooklyn.

SO easy to get to from NYC, just take the "L" subway only ONE stop to Bedford ave.

So many different choices of food, plus a cool area to walk around lots of shops and galleries.

HAve a nice sitdown breakfast at Egg or Five leaves, then check out some shops, walk through Mccarren park, have a chicken biscuit at pies n thighs, some oysters at marlow and sons, a burger and bacon @ peter lugers. Stop in and tour Brooklyn Brewery and have a cold one.

Those are just some suggestions, there is so much more available, except good Indian food (in my opinion).

You can also take a water taxi back if you choose.

Best thing with the "L" subway is that you are literally a 5 minute subway ride back to Manhattan.

Go to freewilliamsburg dot com it is a great site listing all local restaurants, things to do, galleries, bars music etc.

hope it helps

El Nuevo Bohío, East Tremont Bronx

Funny, I just went this week for the first time to El Neuvo Bohio.

The pork was delicious, surprisingly juicy, not dried out at all.

The pork skin very crunchy and good tasting.

The fresh garlic sauce was amazing!!!!

I agree about the rice and beans, I have had much better elsewhere.

I will definitely be going back...

Donuts

When I was growing up I spent years working at a dunkin donuts.

20 years later I live 5 blocks from peter pan in greenpoint.

I cant believe everyone is WoWing over their donuts.

Standard donuts probably slightly better than dunkins.

Everytime I went there I kept hoping they would be much better then they turned out to be.

Nope, always disappointing.

Never going back.

Now if you want to try awesome donuts, head on over to Bedford Stuy:

Dough
305 Franklin Avenue
Brooklyn NY 11205
347-533-7544

Blood orange, nutella, Dulce de Leche

or if you are in NYC go to

Doughnut Plant
379 Grand Street
NY NY 10002
212-505-3700

peanut butter and jelly, creme brulee and double chocolate

Try either place, you will never ever go back to standard donuts from peter pan

Five Leaves

Go for Breakfast!!!

about 6 months ago on yahoo home page was an article talking about the "best egg sandwich " in nyc. It was for 5 leaves describing their scrambled organic eggs with fresh sage, aged cheddar served on a grilled Sullivan St. panini. I added BACON of course!!!!

This egg sandwich was great! Never had with fresh sage before.

Definitely one of the best!!!

Get there early on the weekend, this place jams

NYY Steak at Yankee Stadium. Any thoughts?

umm, I so disagree with Blackstones.

So much better steak around

PG steakhouse
Abel Conklins
Tellers
just to name a few in the area.

Go to Blackstones if you are single and over 50, it's an aged meat market.

hahahahahaha

Try Black Forest Bakery in Lindenhurst on south Wellwood Avenue just north of John Street.

Not so sure about the plain donuts, but the jelly and custard are out of this world.

If you really want a treat go to Doughnut Plant in Manhattan.

The best donuts I have ever had.

You have to try

Peanut butter & Jelly donut

Creme Brulee (sp)

double chocolate

It is well worth the trip, not like dunkin

Cono O'Pescatore in Williamsburg

Asumnuthin, I have lived in NY my entire life, I understand the Chicken Parm is readily available all over...

I was just interested in finding the places that prepare it the best which keeps people going back and continually getting it again.

I'll check out LA Pizza, thanks!

Three LI South shore strike-outs...

Try these:

Argyle Grill in Babylon village, great burgers, one of my favorite ceasar salads with blacken chicken, all food very good, good service

Tellers in Islip, top noch steak, you have to get the bone-in rib eye, the bone is almost 20" long

Bobbiques in Patchogue, this is the place in suffolk for good bbq, one of my favorite chilis, great x-large bbq wings, huge beer selection, live music, kewl owner...

Costco croissant, awsome!

Those are great.
It is nice when you have a nice big breakfast crowd and you make a dozen egg sandwiches using the croissants.

I bet they would make great french toast too.

Costco has lots of goodies.

oyster hour in Oyster Bay or elsewhere

Hey Mhughu

I am originally from Long Island (40 years) but know reside in Greenpoint Brooklyn.

The best oysters are to be found at Marlow and Sons in Williamsburg.

More like 3 bucks each, but they are the freshest to be found.

Best fried chicken in Brooklyn?

I just had the fried chicken at Egg and Walter Foods.

The chicken at Egg was good, crispy coating, juicy meat, but I did find it a little salty.

The chicken at Walter Foods, killed it, the coating was so much better, crunchy and perfectly done on the inside.

Funny while I was eating at the bar, a woman next to me had the fried chicken as well. We got into a conversation about the chicken, she said she was just at Buttermilk channel and thought the chicken at Walter Foods was better too.

I just moved to Greenpoint so I will be sampling as many as possible...

Good places to live in Brooklyn based on food/bevs?

This one is right up my alley.
Lived on Long Island my entire life, just turned 40, just moved to a place in Greenpoint Brooklyn last week.
Could not be happier!
Oh ya, I am recently single too.
Between Greenpoint and Williamsburg 5 minutes away the bar/pub/beer garden/restaurant choices are endless.
I work in Manhattan and the subways make it very easy to get there.

It is what I call a "leap of faith", just do it.

You will be so happy you did, trust me.

Porto Vivo-Huntington--Anyone Been? Reviews?

Ok, I went on Monday. As tooloose mentioned the floor plan is really nice.

I ate at the bar like usual. The Bartender was very nice, good service and knowledgeable about the menu.

I started with the octopus salad, which was very fresh and a little spicy to my enjoyment.

Then came the beets salad, it was deconstructed and delicious.

I went for the LI price fix deal, so I ordered the roasted chicken which was very juicy and the side of sautéed spinach was fabulous.

For dessert the crème Brule was a cappuccino flavor which really finished the meal perfectly.

I am actually going back this evening for the suckling pig, so I will let you know how that goes too.

I would also like to mention on Monday nights they have an $18.00 wine deal (choice of 4, 2 reds, 2 white) which is basically a bottomless glass. I will definitely be back on a Monday for that one...

This will be one of the best destinations in Huntington for dinner or just cocktails.
