Vietnamese in Orlando

We went to Little Saigon based on a recent recommendation in the New York Times and I must agree with your review; the food was not good. It was probably the worst Vietnamese food we've ever had.

Lac Viet Bistro, on the other hand, was outstanding. Really terrific.

Little Saigon, by the way, was pretty much all white folks. Lac Viet was almost all Vietnamese folks.

New bakery in Jackson Heights?

Cake was great (mocha) as was a Kiwi tart I had yesterday.

New bakery in Jackson Heights?

It is a welcome addition to the neigborhood. It replaced a so-so bakery that made some not so good empanadas, among other items. The new bakery has cookies, pastries, and cakes. I've had a cannoli, lobster tail, and cheesecake. All great, although the lobster tail was a little tough on the bottom. I'm having a party this Saturday and will be buying a larger cake there, so I'll let you know how that turns out.

I also noticed that they are selling Gillies Coffee. While that is certainly a plus--they are one of the oldest roasters in NY--I didn't try the coffee because they made it in the glass Bunn machines, and that is never good.

Xtasis in Jackson Heights

This is the new Columbian burger place on Northern Blvd near Natives. It's decorated in bright pinks, whites, and televisions and plays dance music. I had one of their "super burgers" which may sound gross when I describe it but it was amazing and over-the-top. Grilled burger on a good toasted bun, topped with cheese, ham, lettuce, tomato, onions and crumbled potato chips. Also tried a sandwich there which looked like ropa viejas on Cuban roll which was also very good. This place is fun and open late and very different from anything else in the neighborhood.

Taco cart at Jackson Heights subway

It's there starting the afternoons around 3 at the exit on Roosevelt from the subway station. I've had several different kinds of tacos and they are cheap ($2), fresh, and delicious. Quite yummy!

Outerboroughs Still Lumped Together

I can't believe CNET redesigned this whole site but is still lumping all the boroughs together in one board. How about one for each borough, guys? So much has changed since 1995 when Chowhound was launched that I think each borough deserves it own. For example, Smith Street was just getting started then.

Does anyone else agree?
