Thai Boom -- Best Westside Thai
Went to this place, party of 6, on Saturday for dinner based on recc from this board. Food definately substandard. "Crying Tiger" was same dry, tasteless beef in the beef salad. Did not have whole fish but directed us to trout filet as shown on the "specials' card on table. Fish crispy but overcooked. Not the best Westside Thai by any stretch!
Where to find Resturant similar to Musha? Can be Vietnamese, Thai, or Chinese BBQ ( Orange County or Los Angeles County)

My Chinatown Dilemma
I don't live in NY, but visit very often, many times with a friend or relative in tow seeking the "real NY experience". Invariably, we end up in Chinatown for dinner. My wife's favorite Malaysian place on Mott street is no more, so we end up in a random restaurant and wing it. I am a Wo Hop fan but my wife refuses to go there any more.
So, my question is: Which restaurant in Chinatown do you take an out-of-town guest and what do you order there?
John's of 12th Street or Patsy's?
Showing an out of town relative around NYC. Looking for an "Old-School Red Sauce" place with authentic NYC feel. Narrowed it down to Patsy's (Midtown, NOT the Spanish Harlem pizza place) and John's of 12th Street. Opinions, anyone?

"Homey" to me means "homelike". A place that you feel welcome and comfortable. Your suggestions are wonderful but, come on, John Talbot, how about some of your favorite dishes at these places? Ordering well or badly can make or break the experience.

My wife and I are heading to Paris next week. Staying in the Latin Quarter for three nights. Figure we will go to Le Cinq for lunch as our daughter and son-in-law did last year. Any suggestions for moderate-priced French restaurants and what to order in same?

Correction to the above; restaurant El Faro is in the town of El Puerto de Santa maria in the province of cadiz and Halle Berry steeped out of the ocean inthe town of Cadiz, near the old fort.

I have been to Andalucia numerous times in the past two years. Five cities in five days is doable if you are a disciplined traveler. The Andalusian Horse Show is a must, also, when in Jerez take the tour of the Harvey's Museum, ALL sherry must come from Jerez.
As for food, El Faro in Cadiz is excellent, try their tasting menu with accompanying sherry. Don't forget the considerable Morroccan influence in Anadaluca. The beautiful hilltown of Vejar de la Frontera is my favorite. You can see the place where Halle Berry emerged from the sea in the James Bond pic "Die Another Day". If you visit Vejar, the Middle Eastern restaurant El Jardin de Califa is situated in a dungeon under the hotel Casa de Califa. Delicious and romantic!

In Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" he reccomends NOT going to Sunday Brunch as you may be eating last night's reconstituted leftovers and that the restaurant puinishes the staff by making them work Sunday Brunch (no/low tips)

Bobo's in Chinatown now gone
Wow! This was my family's favorite Chinese Restarant as well. "The Home of Chinese Actors" and the menu was simply set up for the number of people in your party, everything was delicious there!

Hey, Steve R., just read your post from Decemeber 2005. I'm born in 53' as well and remember Bo Bo, "The Home of Chinese Actors" vividly. You would order depending on how many people you had and leave the rest to the staff! As for Wo Hop, I always take friends and relatives visiting NY there. It's an institution!

My daughter and son-in-law live on base at Rota. Same problem, no Asian ingredients. Visiting there in a few days, I'll ask around.
A Request For Budapest
Need a restaurant in Budapest to take my friend, her parents and possibly, her kids. We are visiting July 2 to 7 and want to take our hosts out to at least one dinner. Hopefully not too expensive and, once again, possibly child-friendly. I don't know if her parents are adventurous eaters so, maybe, Hungarian food??

Wow! I was just going to choose John's of 12th Street until I read the earlier post! In Northern California, Italian food means either pizza or expensive Northern Italian places. I wont even start with the number of chains up there. I was thinking of places that have atmostphere or history behind them. Good food WOULD be nice. Monte's? Minetta Tavern?

Having read your suggestions to this point and doing some research through this board, I think Babbo might hit the spot for Italian. I thought about Il Mulino, Patsy's or Minetta Tavern for New York Red Sauce Italian but I believe Babbo is safer, IF I can get them a reservation. I know they like sushi, so I thought of Yasuda or Nobu, (they've been to the branch in Vegas, for what it's worth) but high-end? Per Se? Daniel? Jean-Georges??
As for Katz's, John's Pizza (Bleecker) and Barney Greengrass, I've got them covered as we can take the grandkids there for lunch/brunch.

We are taking my daughter and son-in-law to NY for a short trip before they leave the USA for three years, (he's a Marine Officer, heading to Europe). They are accomplished Chowhounds,(Inn at Little Washington, French Laundry, etc.) Where would you suggest they dine in NY? I would think a high-end place or two and maybe something that represents the real NYC, (I'm a native). Appreciate your advice.

Pastrami in LA [split from California]
Johnnie's pastrami is WAY too salty. I read somewhere that it is a completely different type of pastrami than that served at Katz's/Langer's. Never been to Langer's but LOVE Katz's as much for the ambiance as the hand-cut pastrami.

No. What a bunch of "B.S.". Mort's rejected "other suitors" in favor of former Mayor Riordan who will "keep Mort's spirit intact". It's opening up as an upscale eatery. Something old, dingy Mort's was definately NOT.
