Is there any decent Spanish -not latin- food in NJ?
My understanding is that it is a Tapas place, and I cannot think of a Tapas bar even in the Ironbound.
I am not a fan of sweetbreads and other innards that seems to be the specialty of Casa Mono.
I will second the Segovia recommendation though. I like that type (the seafoody spanish)

I lived in Las Vegas YEARS ago and there was this place (I think on Flamingo) that had the best pasta salad with fried chicken, that was served with honey cayenne dressing.
Does this place still exist? Does anyone have the recipe? (I am in NJ now)
A Week in Vegas
The Tillerman was always WONDERFUL when I was there.
It has a great atmosphere, is not a part of the casinos, and the food was incredible.

Cheesy Corn Casserole & South Beach Diet (a call for help)
Ok, is there a recipe out there using frozen corn (I will cream myself thanks) rather than the yucky canned corn? I have been requested to make this tomorrow (not sure why since I have never made it before).
Also a side dish for my Mom who is in the first week of the SB diet (which certainly wont include the corn casserole lol)
We are having filet mignon sandwiches (mom not sammich, just the filet from the grill)
I guess my family is getting sick of my spinach dip (which is totally awesome), but getting a request for something different is kinda cool too.

Thats not NY style, that is New Haven style. Pepe's (the best, but like an hour wait), Sally's and Modern all made excellent clam pie.
Cous cous with pine nuts and dried cranberries?
I use almost the same recipe, though by that I mean ingredients. I use chicken broth and would never even think of adding mint to it.

Dining recommendations for a (short) layover at Newark Liberty?
With only an hour and a half layover you really dont have much choice, you have to stay in the airport. But do not despair. Continental has been branching out to Terminal A, but most of the flights are still in Terminal C and post security. If you are looking for hot dogs there is definitely a Nathans there, there is ALSO a Gallaghers Steak House which is really quite good. (but a lot more pricey than a hot dog joint is going to cost you).
There is a Garden State Diner as well post security, and there isnt anything that says Jersey like a diner.
But the fact is, you arent going to get a taste of Jersey at the airport.

Thats not minimalist, nor is it a burger, thats a skinny meatloaf or meatball.
A burger is ONLY meat, with maybe some pepper, then you put the toppings on.

Warm PBJ from a camp sounds awful, but interesting enough (unlike a tuna melt ick), grilled pbj is pretty tasty (bring lots of milk to drink)

I was just on the phone with my mom. She told me something that I didnt remember doing. When I was in 2nd grade, I brought a bag of food to an asian kid at my school. Even though they were probably better off then we were.
All those starving stories apparently got to me.

Ah, another one I now remember (was at work earlier). Corned beef (still cant eat it today, and STILL have a grudge over my long dead grandpa, not only for this, but thats OT)
I was at my grandparents house in Oconomowoc Wisconsin, and my grandmother made corned beef. I must have been about 7. I couldnt, it gagged me. (not really understanding why parents used to think their kids would fake gagging), well in due course I refused to eat it, as I couldnt swallow it. So I had to sit at the table ala Mommy Dearest (the movie reference gets better) all night, then was finally after what seemed like an eternity sent to bed. The next morning I awoke, and was coming downstairs rather hungry, and saw my grandfather making corned beef hash, and actually adding my unused plate to the mix.
I snuck back upstairs and hid in my grandpas closet. Everyone was calling for me, my mom was freaking the hell out, after about (hours it seemed) they even called the police and I heard my mom crying, which made me come out.
When I told the police why I was hiding they were trying not to laugh and were actually quite nice. My grandfather was not so pleased, said I would be sitting at the table all day, all night, I WILL eat what is served to me. While it was usually my mothers practice as well she finally relented told my grandfather that I was more stubborn than he is and took me and my brother out to eat (to let us all cool down).
To this DAY, the smell of corned beef (and usually boiled cabbage as well) makes me nauseous.

Bill & Harry's chinese awesome quality on Route 10 - (its East Hanover, but close enough), there is an awesome kosher deli on Livingston Ave http://www.nanasdeli.com/hot-buffets.html, that is on the pricey side, but I swear you have never had tuna like this in your life. They REFUSE to give up the recipe.
I have to agree on The Garlic Rose in Madison.

My Mom tried that stay at the table until you finish crap with us, and back then she was a horrible cook. She went through a year long pimento kick where she put them in everything Thank God for Dogs.
BTW, If you force a kid to eat a food they dont want to eat, you will make them hate that food for the rest of their lives. Plus you will have rotting food hidden in all kinds of inventive places, like under the radiator etc.

Where are you exactly? The Reservoir Tavern in Parsippany (not BOONTON FOLKS) makes incredible pie, with perfect crust that passes the fold test. Go off hours though, this place gets CROWDED even though its really kind of in the middle of nowhere. Its been in business for like 70 years, and people come from ALL over to get it. (Also has great Italian food other than pie)
Also, hang on to your wallet when paying if you find yourself sitting at the bar, I was signing my credit card receipt and put my wallet on the bar after putting the CC back in, and within SECONDS my wallet was gone. The bar is so crowded this is apparently easy to do. Not saying this happens often, but the third degree I got and the bartenders insisting on searching my bag was a bit off putting to say the least.

I have been there a few times. I like the bbq (pulled pork), the shrimp po boys, and I love love love the cheesy grits. The ribs are also fabulous (had them at a party where they brought in)

If I must venture into Newark, I always opt for Spain. I would still say Don Pepe's but you can get that in Pine Brook and dont have to go into Newark.

This is as authentic as you can get in the region. And its REALLY hard to find so turn on your GPS lol. Seriously you will love it.

I agree with the Jersey Shore pizza's, they cant get the crust right, they dont have the right water.
But I have have serious issues with CT pizza, the crust is too soft. It doesnt hold to the fold. I have only had 3 kinds. Mystic, because I had to see what the fuss was about, again, soft crust (but the sauce was tasty.
I like specialty pies, but I think the ultimate test for a good pizza is the plain slice, if they cant get that right, then everything else isnt worth trying.

You really cant compare NJ (North) thin slice to Chicago deep dish, they are different creatures. Both are good.
The thin slice is as much about the crust than it is the toppings though, so depending on where you live its all about the water. I like Brooklyn thin slice, but I like the one at Willowbrook mall, the guy is from Brooklyn, and he even says it cooks better here (he is gone now, dont know where that place moved)
As for CT, they are deluded lol. Their crust is WAY too soft.

I agree, these people havent had the Resevoir Tavern, they cant compare lol.
By the way, its in Parsippany, not Boonton, but its a border so most people make the mistake. Easier to get to from Boonton exits as well.
