Thanks for the great suggestions. I have lots of excellent choices here!
Need tips for quiet restaurant for meeting of parents
Sorry, good point. They are coming in from out of town and staying in River North/Gold Coast. We live in Wicker Park. I think anything within 20-30 minutes of downtown is good.
Need tips for quiet restaurant for meeting of parents
My parents and the parents of my significant other are going to be meeting for the first time, and I am looking for recommendations for restaurants. Here are the complicating facts:
1) My father is hard of hearing, so it is important that the restaurant not be too noisy.
2) Some of the parents are picky. It can't be a hole-in-the-wall, and ethnic food probably is a bad idea.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Reasonably priced bistro dinners in Chicago?
I've enjoyed:
Le Bouchon in Bucktown: http://www.lebouchonofchicago.com/
Kiki's Bistro in River North: http://www.kikisbistro.com/
Also heard good things about:
Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park: http://www.monamigabi.com/

need an alternative to frontera grill
I like Mercadito better than Frontera and it's right around the corner. More hip and modern feeling. Food is great, and it is fun to share.

Ukrainian food?
I live in the Ukrainian Village, a great neighborhood. But I have not yet had any Ukrainian food. In fact, I don't even know what Ukrainian food consists of.
I am wondering if any of you know of good Ukrainian restaurants? And also if you have suggestions of what to order? Or is this a hopeless pursuit?
Thanks.
Need Chicago help - Montrealers coming for 2 days
Publican is a great choice. Also consider Mado in Wicker Park--it's a BYO that specializes in locally sourced.
For Mexican, there is a great new place in Lakeview called Chilam Balam. It serves small plates and is also BYO. If you want a more authentic feel, you could check out Pilsen, a Mexican neighborhood. Nuevo Leon is great.
For Sushi, the best place in town is somewhat off the beaten path--Katsu in Rogers Park. Mirai Sushi in Wicker Park is a bit more trendy and also great food.

dinner near 3133 N. Halsted
There is a new Mexican, tapas-style, BYO at Broadway and Wellington called Chilam Balam. It was excellent.
In the neighborhood, I also like Wakamono for Sushi or Twist for Spanish tapas. I haven't been in a long time, but I remember really liking Socca for Italian.

Best French-style patisserie in Chicago?
I like the pastries at Bittersweet in Lakeview.
It's also a great place for lunch.

Where are the top tapas?
Mercat is good but overpriced. Try Azucar in Logan Square. Great tapas--a little different than the usual fare available at Ba Ba Reeba, Emilio's, Iberico. I also like Twist in Lakeview.

Alevropita/Flour Pie
Thanks so much for these tips. I am so excited to try this out.
Flour for baking bread
Where can I buy flour for baking bread? My local Dominicks has all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour, but I am also interested in finding rye flour, bread flour, and whatever else I might be able to experiment with. Also, it would be good to buy in larger quantities. Please let me know if you know of any stores which offer a better selection. I live in Wicker Park, so anyplace near there would be best.
Alevropita/Flour Pie
The first recipe is the one I couldn't quite figure out. The second looks promising. I will give it a try. I will also check out the bulletin board you suggest. Thanks so much for the tips!
Alevropita/Flour Pie
I recently returned from an amazing trip to Greece. Every meal was delicious, but I was particularly fond of one dish I ate. When I visited the villages of the Zagorohoria in Epirus (northwest Greece), we ate something called Flour Pie or Alevropita. The waiter explained that it was made using only flour, butter, egg, and cheese. It looked a little bit like a very thin, crispy pizza, and it was delicious. It is unlike other Greek pies in that it doesn't involve any phyllo.
I have been trying desperately to find a recipe for this dish. My Google searches only turn up a single recipe (http://www.mavrommatis.gr/modules.php?name=News&file=article441), which is seriously confusing. I tried to follow the recipe but the resulting dish was a disaster.
Does anyone have a recipe for this culinary delight? It seems to be a very regional dish and not available in cook books or restaurants.
Thanks for any help you can provide. I need to eat this delicious pie very soon!

CSA's - Anyone use Sweet Earth Organic?
I'm thinking of joining a CSA this summer. I noticed past posts praising Angelic Organics. But I was looking at the helpful map at this website: http://www.sustainusa.org/familyfarmed/csa_list.html. Sweet Earth Organic has a pickup spot just around the corner from me. Their website looks good: sweetearthorganicfarm.com. But I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with them. If you think it's great or have complaints, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!
